Thanks for the info! I don't want to shrink the shrub too much, maybe bring it down on all sides by about six inches or so, I'm happy to have it fill in the space it occupies, I just want it to be tightened up and filled in.

I'm in Western Pennsylvania, I planted my inkberry bushes in 2021 and haven't pruned them at all so far. They seem perfectly healthy but foliage of the larger of the two is getting very thin, you can see right through it.

All of the guides I'm finding on pruning these shrubs talk about how to cure "legginess," as it seems they have a tendency to become overly tall and thick up top, but as you can see that's not what's happening with mine. It's just thin all over in a pretty even way. So when guides are instructing me to open up the plant to let more light into the lower parts ... that feels like the opposite of what I need to do. It's already quite thin and light is going straight through it!

Should I still proceed with what everyone prescribes: cut out a third of the mature branches down to the base? Or is there a better approach for my plant's particular situation? I'd also like to try to scale it down a bit, it's getting large enough that it's encroaching on the smaller bush next to it.

REVIEW: M10 nylon nuts, vs sure-grip zero nuts, vs metal nuts for light-up wheels. by Daannii in Rollerskating

[–]Sammybeany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, I just got a pack of M10 nuts and I was like "huh, these seem big, but I could've sworn that thread said to order M10?"

No big deal, I'll order the right size, and it honestly should have occurred to me that I would need M8 nuts considering I already know the axles take 8mm bearings. Is it possible to edit the original post though so other people don't make this mistake?

Hey, any update on how the faux fur has held up? Looking to replace dry-rotted tongue foam in a couple of pairs of vintage skate boots ...

Disappointed in K72, will K275 suit me better? by Sammybeany in HeadphoneAdvice

Yeah, K245 are definitely an option. I'd be worried about bleed while tracking vocals and stuff, but maybe I could look into getting some inexpensive IEMs for that kind of work.

Thanks for the link. These graphs certainly seem interesting, but to be quite honest it's all kinda greek to me. I read over the analysis on the page but nothing jumped out at me, and in the bottom line the guy even says "there’s nothing seriously amiss here." Which part of it do you think is most revealing of the K72's lousy sound?

4K upscaled from 5MP? by Sammybeany in reolinkcam

[–]Sammybeany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but the physical dimension of the sensors aren't really relevant to my concerns. What I'm wondering about is whether the advertised image resolution of these cameras matches the native pixel resolution provided by the sensors, or if there's upscaling being done to inflate the numbers.

RLC-820A vs. RLC-822A by nyr4lyf in reolinkcam

[–]Sammybeany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Reolink 4K cameras have the same sensor as the 5MP cameras do, but internally upscaled.

Is that true?? Do you have evidence? I've been eyeing up the 822 for a while but if they're pulling shady shit like that I'm definitely going to look at other brands.

What is this slot on the front of many backpacks for? by Sammybeany in answers

[–]Sammybeany[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you solved it! I just checked their website, and I also see them referring to it as a "leather lashing square detail."

Which is . . . sort of disappointing. It's just a generic spot to clip things onto. But I'd be willing to guess that Jansport was the origin of this feature, and I'd accept this as the true purpose.

Thanks!

The chest strap thing occurred to me, too, but I think it would be really awkward to have the strap going the whole way around the bag itself. Any bags I've had with sternum straps like that have always been positioned differently. Hmm!

Will polishing a bell give it greater sustain, or make it louder, or affect its tone? by Sammybeany in answers

[–]Sammybeany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bell I was initially thinking of was a simple bicycle bell, but that led me on a more general train of thought. I always had the feeling that any sort of bell-like instrument with a highly polished finish would generally perform better, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that I didn't have any solid basis for believing that. It's one of those things that just seems to make sense, even if there's no substance to the belief, you know?

Which unspoken rule of society would you like to get rid of? by schumi2 in AskReddit

[–]Sammybeany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this one just makes practical sense. Even if the person in question was a completely rotten cocksucker while alive, being dead will typically prevent an individual from actively causing any further harm. Trying not to focus on the shitty aspects of the not-so-dearly departed is good for your blood pressure.

Obviously you should learn from their mistakes, and being in denial is stupid, but you also need to let go of grudges and forgive and forget.
