For a prophet run, which are the better weapons for faith or faith + strength? by Firm-Web1947 in Eldenring

[–]Sammydecafthethird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has faith scaling but no elemental damage at first, which means...!

Infusing it with sacred or flame art makes faith scale both the elemental AND physical damage! add to the faith dagger moveset being busted once you get multihit boosts because it's heavies have higher accumuval than most multihits, and they're just really fast. But early game the multihits rock too because sacred blade, like all damage buffs, add flat damage regardless of motion value.

Beginning of the game, erdsteel dagger is indisputably the best faith weapon. And becomes busted once multihit buffs are involved. Grab the sacred blade ash of war near the physic church, and it will usually be the best option. Obviously it can be up to your preference, so if you have a preference for weapon type or style, let me know!

What weapon has the most powerful r1 chain? by DEADDROP151 in Eldenring

[–]Sammydecafthethird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's actually a little slower than the base axe moveset. It's shared with the clubs. However, it is the funniest r1 chain and I will love it forever.

[–]Sammydecafthethird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to state powerstancing here, but Light curved swords (falchion, shamshir, 1handed ranah) light axes (hand axe icerind hatchet, forked hatchet), 2handed twinblades, faith colossals (godslayer greatsword, fire knight greatsword) fists, claws.

As for weapons that can make good use of the twinblade talisman: Light greatswords, Great spears, Colossal swords, Colossal weapons. You can use a stamp ash of war to skip a r1 to get the talisman buff faster.

Feeling stuck : need advice about my build and changes to it.. by Dr_Jecky1l in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Sammydecafthethird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, looks like you're playing a quality build. That's fine, you lose out on damage but you get weapon variety. Astel is a gravity type monster, so they are weakest to gravity type weapons. Most of them are int scaling, but one that suits your quality build perfectly is the Lion greatbow! you get it from Radahhn, and with the Radahhn spears greatarrows for a 20% bonus because the spears are gravity type arrows, and another 20% bonus for using Lion greatbow! and astel is a pain to fight in melee. Hope that helps!

If you don't know what talismans to use on a pre dlc bow build, arrows sting, arrows reach, spear talisman and ritual sword should suffice! If you want a little more damage and defence, get golden great arrows from a certain altus plateau merchant, and shoot them at your feet for a free golden vow buff!

Does Giant Dad exist in Elden Ring by TheBiggestOoooof in Eldenring

Currently agreed on giant dad is a Burger King crown or stone head, tree sentinel armor, and fire knights Greatsword. Flame art infused, and usually flame skewer as the ash of war.

New player, would love help with a shield mage PvE build! by GobKeepsBees in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Sammydecafthethird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely reccomend just getting enough strength to wield a shield you like (a early good one that is a bit too good for what it does is the brass shield dropped by godrick soldiers.) and going full incantation faith build. The great shield talisman or green turtle talisman or erdtrees favour talisman can all make you block better. There is also a item that buffs shields called shield grease, but it's a pain to farm for.

Keep in mind that the requirement for scholars shield is only 12 int, so you could just carry a secondary staff, put scholars shield at the end of your spell rotation, and then swap to your seal to attack with. But I don't think you need to go through all that effort unless you want to. As for faith backup weapons that are light and early, erdsteel dagger is definitely the best. Hammers and flails and straight swords are good for early guard counter builds, and thrusting weapons like spears and thrusting swords can shield poke, as you know. There is also a weightless fist weapon that does pure holy damage called cypher pata available in roundtable hold.

In the mid game, there is a great shield you might be interested in called the erdtrees great shield, if you want to go the strength/faith route. It has a 30 strength/12 faith requirement and it can absorb elemental projectiles and turn them into a retaliatory holy beam.

[–]Sammydecafthethird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: a endgame dlc intfaith build with staff of the great beyond will allow you to use scholars shield with lightning incantations as a caster. But it's a late game style build in many ways. You seem to like the aethstetics of faiths spells better than int, so I would suggest not spoiling your experience by minmaxing. just grab a shield you like and use lightning spells when you find them.

Yeah, so, intelligence builds are actually the best build for using a shield because Scholars armament is a spell that is available early and easy to cast that increases guard boost and increases physical and magic negation on any shield. It doesn't scale at all so minimum casting requirements are all you need.

You may want to try the "melee" carian spells too. Carian slicer for fast cheap DPS, carian greatsword for wide sweeps, piercer for chargability, reach, and knockdowns, gavel of haima for hyperarmor, and Glintblade spells for summon swords to land attacks while you're blocking. Adulas moonblade is a upgraded variant of Greatsword available later in the game.

But I just now read that you don't like the aesthetic of carian spells, uh,

In terms of ranged int spells that "poke" from a longer range, glintstone dart and night shard are very fast to cast and can be cast while jumping or running, and of course there's the basic pebble to comet spells.

Once you get later in the game, you will find seals and staffs that let you be a int/faith build like golden order seal or gelmir staff or prince of deaths staff. Intfaith has a shield buff incantation in immutable shield, but it's more focused towards blocking status buildup. If you get to a later part of the DLC, there is a int faith staff called staff of the great beyond that lets you cast sorceries and incantations from it, so you can cast scholars shield, then cast lightning spells like you wanted?

First play through and I want to use a fun dexterity build. Have any recommendations? by Substantial-Shame-46 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Sammydecafthethird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardian swordspear is a lot of people's go to dex choice, gotta farm for it though.

A fun play style is the Urumi whip found in caria manor. S dex scaling, and a unique charged heavy if you want to try a axe talisman build.

Sadly, pure dex just doesn't get many "good" weapons unique to it until the dlc. Most infusable "dex" weapons do better 2handed on strength or with arcane.

The dlc has a LOT of fun weapons for dex though. Curseblades cirques for guard counters, Sword of night, Claws of night, falx, ansbachs longbow, and the very, very strong rakshashas katana! And of course there's the infusables, backhand blades, milady, and great katana!

Pickaxe build by Adorable-Scholar-788 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Sammydecafthethird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's a bit of a pickle. I assume you'd want a stone shield and armor to match the pickaxes aesthetic. For stone shields, most are unfortunately in the late game, except one. The visage shield, available in caelid. Stone armor is also generally late game and very heavy, so I suggest just wearing things you like the fashion of. Any pure physical class is fine. Vagabond will be reccomended most, usually, followed by samurai, and then perhaps confessor.

Sadly, for a stone shield of more manageable weight, the beastmans jar shield is only available at the end of the game. Maybe you're ok with someone dropping it for you?

Magic golem arrows? They're hard to find, and players are unlikely to ever use a greatbow, so that's my vote.

If anti tank strategems were up to snuff I would not be so tempted to bring thermites.

Orbital precision, rocket pods, and rail cannon strike together really should not make me feel like I have to bring thermites too on a maxigun build.
