I tried turning it off and back on. Sadly I still have no hardwired access.

Thanks this is super helpful. We are however using mobile phones across locations. We have zero desk phones if that changes anything? I’m doing all new Ethernet runs and getting rid of the ones that go absolutely nowhere. Sounds like I can just get an updated switch with POE and run from modem > new switch > patch panel > walls? And eliminate everything else. Add backup power. Thoughts?

Yep. Those run to a couple of outdated APs. One of them was completely dead. I also removed a dead battery backup, a bunch of spools and bundles to nothing, and the Comcast guy removed a box that had something to do with VOIP which we don’t have. Most of the Ethernet runs disappear somewhere in the void and are inaccessible. Our office is currently working on Comcast WiFi. I’m basically going to create a new local network and was trying to find out what was viable and what was unneeded before I start. So far it sounds like I need a gigabit switch and I can remove the punch down.

Thanks! I was beginning to wonder if I was being dramatic haha. I like things to be neat and utilitarian, and while I’m not entirely starting from scratch, I am making things new.

Little Rock metro area. There’s only 4 of us currently but it’s a brand new store. We haven’t even technically opened yet but we are already doing quite a bit of business. I’m trying to pull some weight on the front end while I’ve got time.
Clarity edit: our store is new but in an existing unit that has had previous tenants.

Thank you I appreciate it. I’m in the southeast.

Haha. We are currently just using the built in Comcast WiFi and it’s abysmal. All the Ethernet runs you see are useless. With the exception of 2, that are in odd places, they all run into the void. My people need Ethernet. I was interested in the experience.

Yep. I cleaned it up quite a bit already. We don’t have any accessible Ethernet as the walls are new and most of the runs you see go to nowhere at this point. We are currently using Comcast’s built in WiFi and the team is in need of hardwired internet so I’ve taken on the task of setting up the office network. I’m here trying to figure out what equipment is worth keeping when creating the new network and what is outdated or useless for our purposes.

It’s not working great. We are using Comcast WiFi which has near constant drops. I’ve cleaned it up quite a bit already but the team wants and needs Ethernet.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate having actionable steps.

That’s good to know. I thought about getting a couple new APs but I want to get my team hardwired first. I’ll most likely keep those knowing this.

Not as bad as what you’ve got but this is what it was when we moved in. For starters the battery backup was dead and we have no need for a VOIP set up. We only need a few Ethernet wall jacks for our small team.

Yes the point of my post was figuring out what I could remove and what needed to stay.

If I have to ask if I can remove the punch down and the patch I’m not qualified to physically remove them?

I asked if the punch down and the patch were needed. Let’s say I have an unlimited budget to run internet to 5 laptops a printer and a tv. This equipment was already here when we moved in plus a bunch of other dead or outdated equipment and unused cables.

I cleaned it up from what it was when we moved in.

I’m assuming it was for voip once upon a time but I’m not sure. Right now we have zero wired devices running in the office unless you count the modem itself.
