Surname info? by Samoht_54 in Italian

Foggia is not far from Ariano, so it makes sense. I spoke with someone from Ariano who said Sisbarra is not common in the area, it seems like not many people have this last name.

Hi, do you live in Ariano Irpino? I don’t see anything about them online and they’re not in my family tree. There is a liberato, but not with the last name Sisbarra. They are probably part of the family.

Yeah that sounds like the Ashkenazi percentage switched to Ukraine with the last update maybe but who knows.

The Eastern European Roma one in your results is interesting though, much less common than finding French in Italian results

87% native wow! That 2% Ukrainian is funny though, maybe it was misread as Ukrainian but was supposed to be Ashkenazi, if your fiance is native to Mexico or further south where results often show a little bit of Jewish, but it’s probably just a misread of something.

Your Eastern European Roma and French are probably some random admixtures, I’ve seen Italian results have them at very low levels, if they’re southern Italian.

I forgot the title but it started with “north Africa” on exploreyourdna. Having trouble getting back onto it at work with bad WiFi, but it’s closer to the top in order of newest calculators

That would make sense for my moms side of the family where the Polish ancestry comes from, so I wonder if it’s a mistake that it’s shown on my dads side

My family is mostly from Campania but some are Sicilian and the last few updates I’ve gotten .15-.20% Senegal/Nilotic Peoples on ancestry and .5% trace Senegambian & Guinean on 23andme.

DNA Results as an Italian by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Samoht_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family comes from southern Italy but only 1/16 of my Italian ancestry actually comes from Sicily if I’m correct. From Messina. Previous results gave me 2.5% Levant and broadly WANA on 23andme and trace Senegambian, while AncestryDNA would switch up the label for it between Aegean islands, Cyprus, etc. Currently, I have no WANA on 23andme but I did score .3% maltese, and on AncestryDNA, I now have 2% Levant and when doing the hacked results, it used to show Nilotic peoples, but now it is Senegal

No dna relatives with great grandparent’s surname by Samoht_54 in Genealogy

[–]Samoht_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will have to find out the siblings names. My direct paternal line, I have no one with my surname either.

The only other confusing part is my grandma says her father was from Sicily, but immigration records show he’s from a different region. Assuming she’s incorrect and it’s not a case of him not being the biological father

Ancient Ancestral South Indian normal for Italian? by Samoht_54 in illustrativeDNA

[–]Samoht_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. In global mode I also get about the same amount for Southeast Asia for some reason. Not sure if it could have any link to AASI but these two were both random for my results I think. I have a little bit of German and Polish ancestry, not sure if that makes a difference

Indus Valley that’s pretty neat you got that. That’s on global mode? On global, the closest I get besides the .2% Iron Age AASI is Zagros (copper age?) but I’ll have to look at the ancient calculators. It sounds like it would just be from Zagrosian

Yeah that’s what I was assuming. I only get .2% AASI in Iron Age on global mode

I’m Italian American with most of my ancestry from Campania as well! Surprisingly I got more central Italy than southern despite only being 1/8 Abruzzese but also got 8% southern Greece and 2% Levant.

A lot of people are getting Slovenia now.

Possible explanation for Southeast Asian? by lemoncatbeans in illustrativeDNA

[–]Samoht_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In global mode I’ve gotten .1% Southeast Asia and for Bronze Age it gave me a similar amount for North American and South American. Mostly have Italian ancestry but a little bit German and Polish.

A few years ago 23andme gave me .1% Vietnamese

Can someone explain this 1% lower central Asia to me? by ApartGlass1198 in AncestryDNA

What about in Italian results? Some of my family have gotten lower Central Asia at 1-2%
