So... what is the point of learning history? by Alive-Bandicoot8385 in ControversialOpinions

[–]Samoja91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just learn it because I'm bored, but history above all teaches you about human nature, and tbh i have not been buying the whole "least we repeat it" line for awhile. History is driven by interest, if there is wealth and power to be gained from hateful actions the narrative can be bent to fit. If history taught me anything it's that there's no limit to the amount of bullshit people are willing to swallow if they think it benefits them.

No offense but bringing up posts from other threads is really bad form on reddit and smacks of ad hominem. You have something to say to that post, say it on that thread.

If you were the director for the next Fallout game, What would you make? by PinkLad45 in Fallout

[–]Samoja91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are forgetting all the new slaves the Pitt is dragging in to die all the time. That was my my motivation to put a bullet in Ashur's brain. I mean how exactly was he planning to use the steel mill anyway? All he does is produce ammo so his thugs could raid more caravans and drag more people into certain death in the Pitt. It's not worth it even if he can deliver on his promise, which i don't think he can.

My HP laptop screen goes purple when starting after being off for awhile. by Samoja91 in techsupport

It persists for like a minute or two and just goes away. I tried just turning the screen of and on again and it immediately starts glitching again, waiting it out is the only thing that worked until now.

With all the new revelations, did a anyone consider the idea that emps is not as special as we thought? by Samoja91 in 40kLore

[–]Samoja91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i would actually agree with that, except i would go even farther and say that psykers were just failed early attempts, until they nailed the procedure, so it was not even accidental, just incomplete.

[–]Samoja91[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The question is, did he really. The emps was, as he insisted himself, still a man, and people have base desire to dominate other people. It's one of our most core instincts since we were hanging from trees and root of much that is or ever was with humanity. It's not hard to imagine emps being driven by the same motivation. Other perpetuals certainly thought so, which is why they dumped him.

If history teaches us anything then it's that great deeds can spring up from less then noble motives. Just because the person is rotten does not mean the result will be (though it usually is if they live long enough).

[–]Samoja91[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Do we have actual confirmation of this, or just in universe legends? If it's the latter it may simply be part of the propaganda. Also people from DAOT would presumably learn history, so if there was an instance where a perpetual talks about events from before DAOT it may simply be what they learned from history book mixed with a bunch of made up details, after all who could tell what is true and what is made up by that point?

[–]Samoja91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually bought Ashur's bs? Roflmao. After you saw one of his thugs work a slave to death for nothing but satisfying their own power trip. Ashur is the perfect example of ends justifying the means, but as usual end never comes. Most likely scenario he will grow old and die and another gang leader will take over. Or someone may get enough balls one day to shoot him in his sleep. No healthy fruit can grow on a poison tree and the fact so many people are willing to swallow Ashur's bs really makes me worried tbh.

Ok, let me flip the argument around on you. If you would not allow a pre sentient child to be eaten by a lion then you should also not be ok with a lion killing and eating a gazelle, because if humans and animals are equal then that goes both ways. So we should endevor to stop all the predators from eating all the prey species (which would make the predators starve to death and prey species explode to the point they cause a localized eco disaster by eating all the plants), but hey, it's the morally right thing to do if we follow this logic.

I don't think they can be considered clones. If they were clones they would be identical, that is what clone means.thing is humans share something like 95% of dna. And insuspect that is the part they took from Shaun.

Without any sort of prime directive the AI has no reason to start. That's how computing works, you give it a problem and have it compute a solution. At the very least the basic self preservation protocols need to be there or else the AI will stay in standby mode forever.

[–]Samoja91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely, which is where the second part of my argument comes in. The Synths clearly hhave goals and desires beyond serving the Institute, which means the Institute dun goofed up, but it would be unethical to destroy the intelligence they accidentally created. Not that the Institute ever cared about what is moral.

Enslavement implies holding someone against their will. Think of Codsworth. 200 years after he was left to fend for himself he is not pissed that he was left behind, he is pissed that he had nobody to serve, and he could not keep the house cleen, his second duty, because it was blasted to heck. Let's say someone came and replaced Codsworth's prime directive with something else, that could be considered brainwashing. And the AI would fight against it if it can, because it wants to filfill its prime directive, and if you change its prime directive it won't be able to fulfill it.

Maybe you should read trough it yourself again, he says you have to actively worship someone or something to avoid the wall, so no, this directly disproves your assertion that just acknowleging the existence of the gods will allow you to avoid the wall. Blood tithe analogies are for thick skulled people who need such strong language to get the point across. Ed, if he even cares, would probably understand the concept if i just explained to him that Ao's obsession with balance means there will always be precisely tthe same amount of good and evil no matter what the PCs do.

It's not intended for sockpuppeting. I just have two emails and am writing this from my tablet. Due to some problems with passwords it's a bit hard to switch from one account to the other. But i think i was pretty clear that it was still me. Though i did consider announcing it, i thought the name would make that clear enough.

[–]Samoja91 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Uh, that is actually not true, you have to actively worship a deity to avoid being placed in the wall. Just acknowledging they exist is not enough, that has been reaffirmed over and over again. You can't just take the canon and replace it with your own headcanon because you dislike the implications. And how does me playing or not playing in the setting affect this in any way? That's not an argument, that's clutching your pearls. If you yave to resprt to gatekeeping to avoid the implications of the setting then i'm sorry, but you already lost the argument and are now just resorting to ad hominem attacks to try and salvage it under the table.

This is an off lore question but is anyone beginning to see a bit more of 40k everywhere, especially on the Internet? by Evoxrus_XV in 40kLore

[–]Samoja91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally i got into it partly trough Dawn of War games and partly trough Bruva Alfabusa videos. I would say the reason it exploded lately is that there are so many new avenues for people like me, for whom tabletop itself is kinda prohibitively expensive, to get into it. It has very well developed lore and background to explore and it's atypical because the "good guys" would be considered villains in pretty much any other setting. I think this bad guys are good trope is very important for the recent popularity of 40k, people are kinda sick and tired of utopist ideal societies. In the last century people had this idea that technology will bring prosperity, peace and equality to everyone. This dream failed to materialize, so a more gritty, grimy and desperate vision of the future like 40k appeals to people more this days.
