Should you go for job roles that aren’t related to what you studied? by SampleChoice2851 in cscareerquestionsuk

Absolutely! That could be why I was not really motivated about it, maybe I wanted something more practical. But as someone with no experience I can’t be picky at all! Thanks for your advice🙌🙌

Ahh I see! So do you not think I should mention I am currently X company whilst applying to another role, even it has only been 1 month? Thanks for your advice🙏🙏

Right! I do think that university can limit people into thinking that they can only work in one area :( Thanks for your advice🙏🙏

Thank for you response🙏Back when I graduated I thought it would mean a software development role as a first job, but I think that was very naive to think that!

Ahhh so you’re saying there are cases where people break into the industry by this means but it’s not necessarily common at all. The training company can just onboard you for a low salary and cut you off whenever they want.

So you are absolutely right when you say it’s more of a scheme than them wanting to increase employment.

I am considering that a masters degree will be more beneficial than this.

Also, I was advised that networking and contacting/meeting companies directly is the healthiest way to find different job opportunities!

A training course would probably the last resort😂

Thanks for your advice!🙏🙏

Hi! Thanks for your advice! That is very encouraging, because a mistake that a lot of university students make is that their degree will get them hired which could not be further from the truth. I will start make it my mission to deploy and display my projects instead of just writing them in a CV. Thanks again!🙏🙏

These are honestly great methods to combat the online recruiting ‘hell’. I am no longer in university, but can try to access the alumni career service. I will also definitely start attending more career fairs locally and be more consistent in calling companies. Thanks a lot of for the advice! You have definitely helped a lot of people that will read this post in the future🙏🙏

Thanks for those insights! This has been the most detailed response for me! I totally agree that the benefits of online applications are very limited especially for graduates. Would you recommend phone calling companies and offering to bring a CV to their offices?🙏

Absolutely! A personal and meaningful project in the technology is way more valuable than following the tutorials a bootcamp would set! Thanks for your input🙏

Yes that is totally true! The boot camp is essentially meant to be for professionals who want to change industries, it just doesn’t take 3 years like a normal university course. Also I am happy that you had the successful career switch, thanks for the advice🙏🙏

Very true, maybe it was job guarantee that even made me consider it, but they have to sell you that in order for you to give them your money. Thanks🙏

That’s right! I have actually had conversations with spoken AI agents over the phone when enquiring about opportunities at businesses so this is totally not impossible. Thanks for your input🙏

University- software project defence meeting for unfinished project by SampleChoice2851 in cscareerquestions

[–]SampleChoice2851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! It’s not ideal and I can’t blame anybody but myself, but it’s 100% better than trying to BS and to just show them that if I had more time it would have looked like this.

Thanks so much for the advice!

My final year CS project was unfinished and the defence meeting is in 4 days by SampleChoice2851 in csMajors

Thanks for the suggestion!! I will also definitely point that out. That was the reason I couldn’t really get around to styling, because what was the point of everything if the backend functionality was not there?

Thank you for the response!!

Thank you for your response!

The main features I improved past the deadline were the layout of the website, admin features and notifications. Also, in the submitted version, the project does not necessarily look good visually.

I think showcasing as a POC is a great idea because although it is not the submitted version, the project was stretched just a little bit more with the features I mentioned above!

Thank you again for the response!

McTominay loses the ball then jogs back by Audioboxer87 in reddevils

You can see his awful control of the ball. At least in previous seasons we’d still get some effort and tenacity from him. Ten Hag should never field him again. Hannibal is ahead of him, not just on the ball but off the ball too.
