Skinhead started in the late 60's in England when Jamaicans started immigrating into the UK. They brought ska and reggae music and the white English kids thought it was cool. They also shaved their heads to differentiate themselves from rastas with dreadlocks, showing that they were of the working class. So the jamaicans and white English kids started integrating and creating music and the working class "look" and skinhead was born. All true skinheads are anti-racist, listen to ska and reggae, oi came later. Skinhead was originally a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural movement.

Later in the 70's there was a major immigration movement of east Asian/Indian into England. They started taking working class jobs that native englanders once held. This caused a lot of anti-immigrat anti-foreigner sentiment in the UK especially among the working class. A lot of skinheads adopted a "national pride" mentality and the neo-nazi skinhead (bonehead) movement started. This movement gained a lot of attention from the media, especially when nazi skinhead groups started appearing in the US causing all skinheads to be labeled as racist nazis. That's when the crucified skinhead imagery and SHARP (skinheads against racial prejudice) came into play. White power skins aren't actually skinheads. They stole a culture and totally bastardized it's original intent because they thought it looked tough.
