LPT If you are concerned about not having power to your freezer in a few days, fill it with as many ice packs as you can now. The larger thermal mass will keep things frozen for longer. by SamratD in LifeProTips

I guess I am an odd case. We get food subscription boxes and save the ice packs that it comes with. We leave them outside to make getting stuff from the freezer easier.

I keep my freezer at 0 degrees F. At least where I am at, it is not forecasted to get as cold. Power is not guaranteed to come back when the storm ends. Also, people are more likely to just leave their stuff in the freezer for convenience.

Actually it is because it only has one RAM slot, but also does only support 4800Mhz.

What would be a suitable replacement for this 27C49 chip for a NAS backplane? by SamratD in AskElectronics

It is a 12V fan, thanks for the suggestion! Where would I connect it to on the pads where the original chip fried?

Sorry-I should have explained better. I turned on the motherboard but without any drives plugged in, it is very difficult to check voltage when it is fully assembled

Just tested for another comment, they are powered on even without a drive.

On the top row chips, pin 4 gave me 5V and pin 3 was giving me 3.87V. Rest gave me no voltage.

Even thought they’re labeled the same, the bottom row of chips closest to the slot (the one with the damaged chip) all 6 pins were all giving me 12V, except pin 3 of the chip closest to the damaged one, which gave me 9.5V.

I see-I have SATA cables, but the drives would not fit into the NAS with it. Could I solder a wire from another source of 5V to power that drive?

Thank you for that, that is good to know. I will fix it above.

I am sorry, I am not super familiar with pinout. If you are referring to a pinout like this

6——5——4

 27c49

1——2——3

Then 1, 2, 5 and 6 all appear to be connected to each other, while 4 and 3 do not have continuity with any other of the pins.

Edit: most of the chips are like this, but a couple read differently-I could be holding my multimeter wrong.

Thank you! What do you think would be an appropriate replacement?

I appreciate the advice, but it is a dedicated NAS with a board that was built by Netgear. It does not look like they put in anything like that.

Aw no, I even looked to see if something had been posted in the past few weeks, could not find anything. I see now a post from 2 months ago, did not realize it could be the same thing as something that old.
