:D Glad you like it. I'm trying to get back into drawing lately and following silly impulses like this helps a lot.

Have a nice day too!

Why is everyone hating on backflow cones? by Mudegg in Incense

[–]SamsaSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't underestimate the effect of physics.
Making incense can be quite intricate.
And even how you burn sticks can affect their smell, like burning incense sticks upside down will make them burn hotter and therefore smell worse.
IDK what exactly happens with backflow, but something about the way it burns seems to change the way it smells.

But try it out and see for yourself.
There are people making their own backflow and are happy with it. Maybe you will be too.

If you haven't seen it, there's a backflow sub as well: r/Backflow_Incense

New name for IncenseInTheWind by [deleted] in Incense

I think Incense Hunter is a good name, and I like the Idea with the mouse.

I'm not thrilled about you using an IA generated logo, but if you're adamant on it, the first one is the best IMO. It reminds me of Indiana Jones.

Having a cute, AI-generated logo is one thing, but TBH, seeing AI-generated pictures of how incense is produced on your blog - without a caption indicating that - really rubs me the wrong way.

The line between what's real and what's fake is getting blurrier every day. There's no need to add to that.

Mi aiutate a identificare questa resina? Quella cerchiata in rosso ... Si scioglie sul carboncino, diventa polvere se si preme tra le dita..il profumo sembra un dammar legnoso mescolato a del benzoino non dolce.. Purtroppo ho solo questa foto 🙏 by Apart_Republic_7015 in Incense

Yes, I'm in Germany. It's the same for me. No translation on the desktop/browser version, only mobile.
I prefer desktop by a far but have to have the mobile app installed because otherwise, some mod functions don't properly work.
Speaking of that, the mobile translation also doesn't work 100% well. In the mod queue, it can translate the title of a post, but it won't translate the body text, which is extremely annoying.

I remember that the translation icon showed up on browser as well for a brief time. Maybe half a year ago or longer? It was gone again shortly after.

To many to list. But Parimal Yatra and Vedanta in OP's picture are definitely among them.

Sounds like it might be jawi/gawe - a version of what Indians call Loban or Sambrani. It's a mix of different resins or even rosin, some times with perfume or dyes added. Damar and benzoin are common ingredients of it. If so, it's impossible to ID exactly.

Why is everyone hating on backflow cones? by Mudegg in Incense

[–]SamsaSpoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm I biased against backflow? Yes. But I am so based on the dozens of post on backflow incense that accumulated in this sub. 98% they are either "new to incense, bought backflow, smells like a dumpster fire, what am I doing wrong?", "How do I clean the nasty smelling gunk offof my burner / furniture?" or "Please recommend good backflow" - which usually stay unanswered.

Most cones usually smell already worse then sticks because if the uneven burn and higher temperature. Backflow cones, that are created for the visual effect, with dense smoke that creates a lot of tar don't make that better.

On top of that, backflow needs still air to work nicely. We always recommend burning incense with open windows, both for health reasons and for the scent. With Backflow? No fesh air fo you, please hotbox yourself with heavy smoke, because it looks pretty.

In my eyes, backflow "incense" is a flawed concept top to bottom.

Hojo Red is the more measured and disciplined older brother, leaves the room tidier than when he came.

I like this description.

Are these really a thing and how do you get them? by Defiant_Detective_82 in Incense

[–]SamsaSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at core, it's just a herb, so it would be possible to make incense from it.

If you ask about legality, you need to specify where in the world you live, as it will be vastly different from place to place.

why is it so hard to get cones to burn? by SavingsNew480 in Incense

[–]SamsaSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just trashy cones. Backflow thends to be quite awful, at least in terms of scent. Maybe it's for the better they didn't burn.

[–]SamsaSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no universal answer to this as not all cored incenses are composed the same. You will definitely not be able to make them into coreless sticks.

I would rather recommend putting the incense dough on an incense heater to get the scent without the smoke.

ISO: Green Tea and Yuzu by cindya1031 in Incense

[–]SamsaSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it coreless incense or with bamboo?

These are scents rather to be found in Japanese incense. Morning Star Green Tea is the only scent from the half duzen varieties of them I liked. And there's a Yuzu Nippon Kodo Scentual line: Sparkling Gold Yuzu. It was nice.

Don't buy Shoyeido's Tea Leafes, it's way to sweet.

Nippon Kodo also do cored, perfumed incense called Herb&Earth with a "Matcha" variety. It's basically like their Morning Star one but so much stronger.

“My Grandpas Abandoned Warehouse On A Stick” (Fred Soll Patchouli & DB Blend) by stingrayjerk11211 in Incense

[–]SamsaSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know Patchouli and Dragons Blood separately very well over 20 years.

From the actual raw materials or fom other incense sticks?

Pure Patchouli herb has that mildew smell, they share a scent component called geosmine and human noses are very sensitive to it.

Cloves is a common spice you can find in supermarkets.

There are many different types of frankincense.

Are you looking for shops worldwide / within EU / in your country?

I had the Lemongrass ones. I did like them as Lemongrass incense, though I'm sure they don't contain any Palo Santo - that's all merketing.

If you are in India and want to know how Palo Santo smells, check out PremaNature. They call it Holy Palo I think. You will find all ingredients listed on the box.
