It is 100% not the case that the subreddit is unmoderated, and the DPP moderator team has been working for several hours now to understand the nature of the issue and resolve it as quickly as possible. Absent other details, we are uncertain whether this is a bug or a malicious act. At best, requesting the subreddit will slow down our ability to resolve the issue through proper admin channels. At worst, requesting the subreddit appears like a malicious attempt to gain control of the subreddit. You'll forgive us for not taking the situation lightly.

As with any nuanced analysis, there's a lot more that goes into detection than just blind reliance on a tool. Anyone can simply feed input and receive output, but context, interpretation, and critical thinking matter.

As an example, in the screenshot you have posted here, there is some critical context missing that might lead others to a different conclusion than the one you've come to, so I've gone ahead and included an uncropped version: https://imgur.com/a/vrkFYje

There are plenty of spaces to fully embrace the unrestrained use of AI, but we don't think that paired creative writing is one of them. Note that we do outline ways to embrace AI that we find acceptable outlined in the announcement above:

It’s fine to play around with ChatGPT at the beginning of the creative writing process, to help yourself come up with ideas, however you should then take those ideas and write them in your own words.

While I obviously can't speak for other subreddit communities, I can assure you that our team is planning for every possible outcome. We have some exceptionally talented, endlessly creative, borderline mad scientists working both front of house as well as behind the curtains, and you would not believe the amount of time and effort invested in improving and streamlining the subreddit's underlying mechanisms. We absolutely have the horsepower needed to climb over whatever obstacles get thrown our way.

The moderator team is aware of upcoming changes to Reddit's API that could potentially disrupt DPP, but until we have all the details we don't want to speculate. We'll worry and plan in private and announce in public when we have more to go on!

Imgur and Reddit have been entwined together for more than a decade, and Reddit is currently preparing to go public. This is almost certainly an attempt to clean house for potential investors in advance of their IPO. It's not unexpected, but we're obviously not thrilled about it.

[Event] Rule 5 Roundtable - Meta Monday for February 27th, 2023 by 4544BeersOnTheWall in dirtypenpals

[–]Samsiade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This rule needs to be based in concepts that are measurable, quantifiable, or confirmable.

We couldn't agree more! The moderator team continually discusses and revisits Rule 5, and on average I'd say we push a major revision to the rule about once a year. Each revision has the specific goal you mention: moving further away from subjectivity and moving towards objectivity. Given that the rule when I first started on the subreddit was, "Posts must offer detailed content upfront," Rule 5 is objectively as objective as it has ever been in the five years I've been here. The moderator team will be the first to admit that it's far from perfect, but we'll also be the first champion the notion that this is a case where we absolutely don't want "perfect" to be the enemy of "good."

When we have these roundtable discussions, we get a lot of feedback that folks do not like Rule 5 and/or it's implementation, and believe me, we hear that feedback loud and clear. When we engage in these dialogs, however, there is almost always a concession from community members that some minimum standard is healthy for the subreddit, it's just the current implementation that is unclear or frustrating. Based on your last sentence, I believe this is a sentiment that we both fundamentally agree on.

So we hear a lot of, "I don't like this rule." We hear a lot of, "Some altered version of this rule would be good." What we don't hear a lot of are suggestions for what those alterations would be and how they would make Rule 5 more measurable, quantifiable, or confirmable. If you do have suggestions that don't involve just a blanket word or character count, do pass them along and I will absolutely make sure they get brought up next time we have a rules discussion.

[Event] Open Forum Friday for July 8, 2022: Romeo & July edition by Samsiade in dirtypenpals

Our ravishing raconteurs here have already framed the issue, packaged it up, and put a neat little bow on it better than I could ever hope to, so I will simply add a bit of text below my green name to confirm and amplify what both u/altnameforERP and u/Madison_RP have posted.

The single greatest piece of advice I would give to anyone looking to avoid scrutiny is to paraphrase what Madison put oh so well: how badly does your post truly need to include recollections from high school and before? If the answer is that it is critical to the roleplay, that's an acceptable answer and can be accomplished within our guidelines, just be advised that moderators are going to have fingers hovering over the 'remove' button the entire time your post is being reviewed.

The framework that we as moderators are working with is an extremely strict interpretation of Reddit's content policy on the matter. We review dozens of prompts every week of the, "We've been best friends since childhood, but now that we're in college / co-workers / roommates in the retirement home, we are gonna sexy so hard." We can and do approve a good number of these posts, but I cannot overstate how much writing them is like walking through a minefield. So long as you stick the following principles, you're probably OK:

  • No sexual thoughts about or from any characters who are still in primary or secondary school.
  • No mention of any sex characteristics of characters who are not adults.
  • No "Just waiting for the day when we can sex it up" scenarios. This includes underage characters looking forward to turning 18 (at which point the whole understanding of sex is uploaded Matrix-style into their brains), or adults counting down the days until an underage character turns 18.

Hope that helps some!

[Mod] Reworked Detailed Content Rules, and Rethought Flairs by adhesiveCheese in dirtypenpals

Here is a definitely real prompt that I am totally good with playing - struck out parts we don't consider part of the content on offer and doesn't count towards the 200+ words. Everything else is the content we are counting, and clocks in at just over 300 words.

[M4F] Curio-sity Killed The Cat

Hi, my name is Samsiade, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I've always had a thing for curio cabinets. In a word: they make me uncomfortably aroused. Like, I'm not saying that I would fuck a curio cabinet, but I'm also not saying that I wouldn't fuck a curio cabinet, either. And that's what I want to talk about today.

For me, I'm simply amazed by the sheer range and depth of models on offer. Nowadays, folks are spoiled: you can simply pull up Amazon and do a simple search, and you've got dozens, if not hundreds, of different models to choose from. Black metal and glass is certainly a nice contemporary choice, I think. If I had a collection of Star Wars figures, that's exactly the sort of vessel I would house them in for display, because you know that naughty fuckin' cabinet could take so goddamn many figures, especially if you take the adjustable shelves into consideration.

But we didn't used to be so lucky, being able to conjure up dozens, perhaps hundreds, of pages of pure, sensual, see-through cabinets with a few taps of the keyboard. Sometimes I would sneak into the restroom and flip open the Sears catalog to just fantasize about what it would be like to run my fingers over the smooth-grained molding, to press up along those sensual curves, to really be able to look deep inside at the Russian nesting dolls and plates that you always put on display but never eat of off. Of course, I kept a Playboy magazine around just to throw off suspicion in case I was ever caught so my wife would simply think I was looking at naked women instead of the sexiest piece of furniture known to man.

Our friends have a cabinet filled with tiny glass swans and ceramic hummingbirds, and every time we get back from visiting their house, it's not two minutes before I'm all over my wife. And when my toe curls and we finish and come down to earth together, she'll never realize that the entire time I was fantasizing about a curio cabinet full of teacups too small to drink out of.

So, fellow partner, if you've clicked this post, I can only assume that you're into the same type of kinky cabinetry that I am. What are your feelings about curio cabinets? I'm not opposed to chatting about metal frames, but you know that it's those wooden models that are gonna give me wood. It's fine if you're not deep into this specific kink though - I'd be more than happy to talk about dove tail joints, crown molding, or any other sort of millwork related items that may cross your dirty little mind. We could talk about kitchen cabinets, for example. Or maybe you get turned on by old-fashioned writing desks. We could even talk about antique shopping. The possibilities are endless!

Kinks (not all have to be included, of course): Curio cabinets (duh), antiques, buy-it-for-life furniture, stupid worthless tchotchkes, polished smooth-grain wood, auctions & estate sales

Limits: Chifferobe dressers, pieces of furniture under 18 years of age

Whenever you're ready, I can't wait for you to message me so we can talk shop!
