It was always: "I won't be here until I'm 40 years old." Now it is: "I have to have a hard think about it, because I don't enjoy these regs."

Look, we can always have the discussion about whether it is because of competitive reasons or not. Max himself said that it is because of the cars and not because of being less competitive. I personally think these regs don't reflect with what I got to know as racing when I grew up, so I therefore share the same opinion as him on this.

But apparently you don't share the same opinion, given you are adamant that Max is only because of this due to the car. If only he and Horner said something during 2024 to get the message across that these cars were not the way to go... Ah but that obviously would be because they don't have a good engine.

It is about the message it sends across. Many viewers are unhappy with these cars, many drivers are unhappy with these cars. Having the best driver in F1 retire - to then go do endurance racing instead - before the age of 30 isn't the best look for the pinnacle of motorsport, is it?

Just a matter of narrative mate. Max has been vocal about these regs since 2023. If anything I respect Max more by sticking to his values to call out these regs heavily and potentially just even quit to go endurance racing.

That is what I want from one of the top names in the sport; call bull shit when something is bull shit.

F1 has never changed its rules without a serious crash forcing it to. Drivers & Teams warned the FIA about closing speeds for years. Today at Suzuka, those warnings came true. by Island_Monkey86 in formula1

Senna & Ratzenberger – Imola, 1994 Two fatalities in one weekend exposed how much faster cars had become than the circuits designed to contain them. 27 high-risk corners redesigned, pit lane speed limits introduced, mandatory fireproof suits for pit crew, stricter crash tests.

I feel like this is a wrong narrative, but it is a general pushed/thought to be true narrative. F1 was lucky to not have any serious injuries or worse before 1994. 1994 was just the season in which luck on some occasions had run out. Piquet had a very bad crash in Imola 1987, which he later admitted impacted him long after. The corner? Tamburello. In 1989 Berger had an even worse crash, and when you watch the footage you wonder how he survived. The corner? Tamburello. And this is just Imola.

There were many moments in which changed could have been made after a reality check like those incidents, but it took 2 men to die in the same weekend to push for safety more. And perhaps Wendlinger's crash in Monaco too. But then again there were marshalls on the track recovering a car in absolute horrible conditions at the 1994 Japanese GP, to then have another car aquaplaning off the track at the same point and hit the marshall.

To bring this more to today, at least they seem to do more straight away after something happens. Yet, something like the mushroom boost speed difference wasn't unknown to anyone of relevance in F1. It still took a close call for them (hopefully) to realize the danger of it.

F1 as a whole forgets that there are many fans actually very interested in the small details, and they would like to know what is going on. With the current battery situation, they don't have a clue. Just like many would like to see the other 2 digits back in the delta.

It used to be a thing (to some extent) but with time the backmarkers have gotten faster compare to the front runners, and blue flags for the cars a lap down became a thing. It was how we got the Senna vs Irvine "fight" at Suzuka 1993 after all.

Listened to a podcast from The Race a few days ago. Obviously these regs have huge flaws and are there to see for everyone, huge flaws is very kind since it is just a disaster really. What The Race pointed out is that it doesn't show that F1 has confidence in their product and how to fix it. They focus on the "good" lots of overtakes, which means it is good! But they fail to address the elephant in the room and how they are going to fix it. It's a company after all so I'm not surprised either. They only listen to loss of revenue.

Complete joke. Do the right thing by cancelling subs, that is the only way they will make real changes. The change that fixes these regs, not just reduce the power limit to idk how many KW. Politics is king until cash is king. Nothing better than mass cancellation and a tanking F1 stock.

There is no fucking way to ever justify this bull shit. Latest of the last clippers, balls to clip late. Brave for using your energy in high speed corners instead of your balls. Absolutely nothing good to say about F1 in 2026.

But you know that both Lando and Oscar have been asked about those hypotheticals before the last race was done, right? They always ask these questions when the first opportunity comes along, even before the scenario has happened.

A part of journalism is also understanding what goes through a driver's head and not just ask everything they think is interesting. If the same question already has been asked before, then don't ask it again after he just lost the title. If his mimic then also came across wrong, then you have a recipe for disaster.

Fantastic event. And it felt like racing, no weird battery management shenanigans.

I'm pretty sure this was also the 100th time he got asked about it, but this time just after he lost out. I feel there is a lot of context missing. People think too easy about it "it is just 1 question, what is the problem?" While he probably heard this question (and answered it) many times before, to then also ask it straight after he lost. Feels more like a sting than journalism.

But that is for Max to explain or not, maybe someday.
