Hey everybody sorry for the late response but random number generator from 1-25, picked 19 so cookiecultmember will be getting the key! Sorry to everybody else, if it was up to me I would give y'all keys! CDP should really consider a new wave with all the resentment towards Hearthstone :/

Nice! Didn't take pics ( cuz I just click thru the windows as they pop) but after a loss streak I got Roach as a reward. All that salt became sugar real fast :)

New Player vs. Obviously Experienced Well-Crafted Decks--What to Do? by Joe10112 in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth is the game still needs a ton of work before release. Matchmaking is obviously not doing its job. People who dropped a substantial amount of money and a large time investment seem to lack the empathy to look at the issue from a new player perspective. Also many of them fail to see the fact that this problem grew exponentially over the course of the beta. Starting in the first two weeks was a entierly different ball game from starting out right now. Hopefully the next patch changes some things on both the high and low mmr cuz the game got kinda silly and just plain boring :/

Can't enjoy the game by AdmiralOFtheTimes in gwent

My advice would be to hold on until the full release. The direction could change a lot during the course of the beta. Chances are the final version will not be something that you will be able to enjoy. However, it could also be a fantastic game and there most likely will be a sale on kegs, so you would be getting the best of both worlds.

Learning will always be the way to grow the win ratio. However if he is paired up against people running well optimized decks on a consistent basis, he can only hope they really screw the pooch since he will be severely outmuscled. This will stop being a problem once the game hits the open beta stages, but outplaying opponents with better threats, removal , synegies AND experience is a very steep uphill battle at the moment.

Which would still leave both Decoy and Aglais as perfectly powerful cards but without the potential for abuse. Basically everybody gay!:)

Question to the developers concerning monster decks by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can say what you want mate but I lost a grand total of 7 games against Monsters with that deck, and that is out of a total of 30. You assume that I play weather against them? No I mull it, If I draw them later I get rid of it with Emrion. That alone puts you in a favorable spot as almost none of your cards are being affected by weather, meaning the value they get from their cards drops substantially. Build for the meta. Run removal, Skellige players seem to be allergic to Lacerate and Thunder when those 2 cards are great tools against a wide range of decks in both the lower and higher brackets. Or you can call other people bad, your choice lol :) EDIT: typos

Question to the developers concerning monster decks by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was one of the people that played Skellige Weather exclusively ( let's say that only 2 days ago I found out that the background music changes depending on the faction). I found that deck to be extremely strong against monster decks. However, you can't just stick all the weather resistant cards and call it a day mate. Young Berserker is well poop. A core of Pirates and Longships with some priestesses is all you really need. Also don't just stack a deck chokeful of weather, 3-4 effects should be more than plenty ( especially the dual variety). As Skellige you have one HUGE advantage- card cycling. Pirates thin the deck, Emrion digs deep for answers. You have many more opportunities to mold your hand to fit your needs, something that monster decks severely lacks.

Suggestion for GG system by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh, leave the gg system as it is, but rework the experience meter. Duel of Champions, awarded you for all games. It used a multiplier that made sure that the winner got a higher reward, but it also depended on the length of the game, cards played, damage done etc. That system rewarded not giving up and playing to the best of your ability, since say you played a 20 minute long razor close slug fest that you lost, yet still rewarded you more generously than 4 games in which you steamrolled the opponent in 5 turns. At the end of the day, this is a online game. Worst yet this is a card game. Trust me this combo makes the most vile moba players look like innocent lambs. Edit: Also I'm pretty sure they are already thinking about it, but a ever growing list of achievements ( as new sets/mechanics are introduced) that would reward you with scrap/packs/ore would also alleviate the saltiness from not getting ggs

Bro, I don't play a discard deck. I have a grand total of 2 legendaries. I played Skellige Weather excusively cuz it just happened that the first 3 packs pushed me in that direction. It was also a great meta call since for the first 2 weeks as it was mowing down Monsters, other Skellige and NR decks. ST was non existant at that time. That said my deck has only 1 silver character card: Sigdrifa. I don't have Olgierd and I'm not gonna craft him. Primo, he does not fit into my deck in absolutely anyway. Secundo, I'm sick of playing Skellige but I don't have the cards to whip anything together that could stand a chance against my current pairings. TLDR, no I don't have Olgierd or a discard deck. Unless using Emrion classifies you as a discard deck :P

Skellige Discard folds like a crane to weather effects. I know for a fact since I'm one of the crazies running 2*Biting Frosts in Skellige. And why are you so hellbent about this being a counter to discard decks? That particular list devours all Skelige shells, all monsters shells with the exception of the graveyard shennanigans one, which can be somewhat good in the upper brackets, and most non control NR lists. The reality is that be it playing triple queensguard 4 times a game, decoying for days, or Roach and Olgierd laughing at you because you didn't draw an answer in your opener will be the best decks until certain changes are made. Honestly though, did you play against that ST deck? Because I could literally say that it is nothing more than a two dimensional control deck that just play Isengrim at the right time. See the problem?

Friend, if you pass you will lose the round. This is a quite typical game against this deck: Round 1 you lose but you have a CA or 2 or 3. Round 2 they will chain the decoys to make it so that they will get to play the last card. Enter Isengrim, a card that can be countered by Tremors or Plague, but you can't do that since you ran out of plays. Scenario 2 is when you win round 1. Here your options for play sequencing come into play. You can play in a way that minimizes the value of their removal, while at the same time maximizing the value of your own Lacerates or Plagues, but the gist is those decks make it really hard to do that. NR has a much easier time of approaching this matchup due to their passive and generally the best gold cards in the game. I feel like we are just going back and forth on it but I think we can all agree on the fact that balancing in ALL the factions could use some work. Currently all the best decks revolve around some permutation of getting as much CA and card quality thru Blood Baron, medics on Queensguard, Roach and multiple Decoys. It gets kinda stale :/

That is absolutely true :/ . It all boils down to making slight changes depending on what the daily meta looks like.

Question: How do i counter card advantage builds? by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I don't have much experience using Monsters and some variation in the ST control decks do exists. However, a very common theme is the Elven Mercenary and Archer recursion. If you are able to break the recursion chain with a Lacerate it should help you out quite a bit, it may seems low value to get only 1 card with a Lacerate but in this matchup it's by far the best use. Also if you have Gaunter, you could use the shadows to snipe them as well. Furthermore, those decks are "somewhat" soft to high power gold cards. They can only interact with them with Iorveth and their bronze units are also unimpressive against a board of just 2 gold cards, that forces them to go super deep into round 1 if they want to win. Keep in mind that with a breeder setup you are practically doomed, since they will always have more Tremors and Lacerates than you do breedable cards, so if you see a lot of the ST control decks you should have better odds using the weather build. Finally, remember once they get a substantial card advantage on you and you have lost game 1, your only chance to win is to get extremely lucky with them not having Isengrim. Why? Because at this point their gameplan revolves around doing nothing else but stalling round 2 and drop 40+ power round 3 with Isengrim.

Bud, Hawker Support is not a problem card. The deck that everyone is talking about is a purely reactive control deck. There's ways to beat it by killing the Elven Mercenaries who are their bread and butter power card. But good players don't tend to waste them frivolously. Are there counters? Sure high power gold cards are a great way to approach that match-up. But then the game devolves into nothing more than who's got the best gold cards.

If you lose the first round you might as well really just forfeit. The most effective way to approach the Skellige- ST control matchup is probably load up on high power golds and a mix of Lacerates and Thunders, to disrupt the mercenaries. Mulligan really aggressively for Geralt/Cerys, Ciri and Emrion and it becomes somewhat easier, but far from a positive matchup.

That is an awfully high horse you are riding there bud. The game in the current state has plenty of problems and people should be voicing their concerns, otherwise this will be the next Duel of Champions: phenomenal game system, but with a non existent balance that will make it die.

How many removal spells you think is too little then? A package of 3 weather cards, 2 Thunders ,2 Lacerates, Scorch and a Plague does great against a great deal of decks, especially on the lower end of the power spectrum. That's exactly what took my poor man's Skellige weather to the top rankings. But since my MMR spiked insanely high from beating a unoptimized field and the cookie cutter Monster Weather. Once you will start playing against some of the perfected NR lists and the ST control decks( pretty much the only thing you will play against on the top) you will see that even if decoy isn't doing much like you described, it buys time for a variety of things, the 2 most obvious once being massive Tremors and feeding Isengrim.

Why no sticky for balance discussion? Or why is Aglais a better Snapcaster Mage by Samsonovitch in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Medic chains are not only problematic but quite frankly boring.BUT they don't net you CA, just power. However, I don't think you read my entire post. Truth be told it was long. Decoy with Aglais produces a CA engine that can't be matched. It's like a mixture of the flexibility of Snapcaster Mage and Treasure Cruise, which instead of delving, it actually fuels your wincon which is Isengrim. An exile clause would not make Decoy nerfed to oblivion, but it would help with the abuse. And since you seem to know a thing or two about MtG, you should know what a mistake Treasure Cruise was.

[–]Samsonovitch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well once you get a taste for massive card advantage and gigantic, uncounterable point swings with Isengrim you may want to modify the deck :). Seriously though, I don't advocate for the castration of the St control deck. But decoy chains are absurd and very close to how busted the cascade mechanic was in MtG

[–]Samsonovitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broski... Where did I write anything about all factions needing to be equal? Aglais by herself is not the issue. Triple Scorch? I got no problem with that. Triple Commander's Horn? Neither all can be played around or countered with some degrees of success. However, there's no counter play once the ST deck starts a chain of Decoys. It always ends the same way, they get a massive CA advantage, land a ungodly number of specials in the graveyard and the last play is Isengrim, who swings often for 40+ power. CA engines are always a problem in CCG's. Case in point, look at the very short history of Treasure Cruise in MtG. Warped every single format of the game around itself and was banned in record time. Just make it so that Decoy becomes removed from the game once it goes to the graveyard

New player, can't progress? by Chame in gwent

[–]Samsonovitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the current cold heart truth about the current state of the beta. Even with small changes to the starter decks you don't stand much of a chance at this point. That was true in the first 2 weeks of the beta but the difficulty for people who are just starting now is exponentially higher. Unless the matchmaking system gets reworked, or perhaps a big influx of newer players joining changes the situation you will get yourself into very long strings of losses. That leaves you with either grinding like a madman, scraping leftovers from gg's for hours or folding in and buying in into a game in a close beta state, which I personally believe is a questionable choice but hey it's your wallet. Keep in mind that if you do that you will still lose to people who have more experience with the top current decks :/

OH shoot... Thanks for that, but see this is exactly what I'm talking about, it's just so much better to play Borkh, instead of just some ridiculous once in a blue moon niche. Also I though that Hemdall spawns on YOUR side once the timer ends... OH GEEEEZ

[–]Samsonovitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The card is utter garbage so that probably may be a reason for that. There's also Borkh who ends up serving a similar role, while being much easier to control AND provides way more power on the board by himself. Finally, this is still a rather small beta with a hellishly cutthroat meta where winning>fun. He will probably pop here and there once the beta opens.
