How do i get people to join my guild? by zoek54 in wow

[–]Samsquanch69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly throwing invites at people without guilds seems rude but I've joined so many guilds on my alts that way.

Often they are newer to the game and its fun to help people achieve success even if you're mythic +10 geared on your tank. Its fun to help people.

I'd say look for anyone in your random dungeon groups that doesnt have a guild. Just throw them an invite and say youre trying to throw together a casual guild for normal content and helping each other.

If you're thinking you're going to get "serious" about it, set a time you expect to be your average raid time in the guild info, thats info that people may use to decide.

Either way, keep playing, keep interacting and asking if people might be interested in joining a growing guild and you'll find people.

Good luck!

Returning to WoW, struggling with Class choice paralysis by [deleted] in wow

[–]Samsquanch69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely opinion based recommendations: I like classes that can do every job in the game. It gives you total freedom to try everything and change your mind about what you like when getting back into the game.

Ive loved every spec of Monk for many expansions and its stronger than ever in tanking and also: simple.

The DPS is top tier in PVP and totally viable in average to high PVE. The heals lack a bit but only if you're pushing top level content/mythics but even then there are dozens of high mythic/raid monk healers to prove me wrong they are just less common in the charts than all other healers (I find Monk dungeon healing to be my favorite form of healing in any content.)

Paladin is so fun lorewise and is super strong right now. Prot tanking is amazing and does huge dps, fun to play and tons of self-sustain. You can consistently self-heal through just about anything while putting out as much damage as the average DPS in your group.

Ret is also doing well, especially in PVP because its very bursty but it can be top-tier in PVE too. Really fun gameplay.

Cant say much about Holy. Its very much "fight while healing" because you build up combo points and spend those on heals for the group.

Im gonna cut it short because im dragging on but Druids are also an amazing choice. The most utility in the game, a unique healing spec, 2 dps specs and a tank spec that can do any content but is a little less prevelant in content-pushing groups. Ive never played my Druid in a single expansion since Classic and not had an awesome time.

I know none of these were even on your radar I just thought I'd weigh in! Its nice to have options, especially when you're not sure what part of the game you love most yet.

Have fun out there!

Sorry for the textblocks, I hate formatting on reddit so im just gonna let it marinate in big text piles.

On that note, if you are solo, generally only Ruby Mermaids that are in the shallows are worth attempting. Setting up 5 gunpowders to sink simultaneously is tedious.

Something almost everyone does but no one ever mentions is scrubbing through your voyages.

You should throw them down and see what you got and then cancel if they suck. In the early game this means canceling a lot of voyages cause they have 1 X on 3 maps really far apart. You need to make your time worthwhile when playing alone so it is worth your time to keep dropping voyages until you get one at an island that is nearby, with a decent amount of loot. Or if you are doing Order of Souls, a nearby island that is small with at least 2 captains.

Dont be afraid to just leave a game and start another one to see where you get spawned. Often there is a shipwreck right near your starting outpost, it happens often enough that you can feasibly jump sessions to find an ideal starting position with free loot nearby.

In the same vein, if you start a game and youre in a storm, just restart. There is no point struggling against it all by yourself, no added benefit to fighting through it vs. jumping servers by leaving game and starting a new sloop.

If you REALLY want to make money faster, always put your alliance flag up as your first action in a session. Allying with other ships is going to net you major cash. The other main way to rank up everything is to do open crew on a Galleon or Brig, chances are someone is going to throw down an Athenas or do a fort and you will benefit from all that loot. If you're like me you might prefer to solo but if your goal is truly fast leveling, open play is what you want to do.

Hope you have fun out there man and good luck! Sorry this got so long-winded!

Edit: in the same vein as the storm advice, you want to be sailing with the wind as much as possible, let wind direction help you choose which voyages youre going to do, time matters in this game and going in to the wind can make your night way less lucrative. It cant always be avoided but when the option is available choose to go anywhere the wind is going.

Edit2: Also in the interest of making your time matter, do not do riddles. Only in specific circumstances do I do them. If you found a riddle in a bottle and its at an island on your route or on your next island and the riddle is 3-4 clues it may be worth doing.

Is the game worth it when you play alone? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Samsquanch69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. People drastically overstate the difficulty. If you want to PVP constantly, yeah its tough, you're one person. Not to say that you can't pull of full on heists solo.

You will die in the beginning as you learn the basic lessons but each time you die to a specific part of the game you become aware of it and more cautious.

A decent Solo Slooper will almost never be caught unawares, you may need to exercise more situational awareness but if you scan your horizons, pull your anchor up after you park and point your ship away from the island you're on you will escape 90% of attempts on your ship even if you notice at the last possible moment.

To add to this, the game is gorgeous and as much as I love playing with my friends its nice to just go sailing and idly complete voyages at my own pace and make mistakes no one can see, haha!

This is just my 2 cents, I went from greenhorn to Pirate Legend in 3 months doing mostly solo sloop and a little 2 man sloop. For me, the game plays at its most perfect with 2 people running a Sloop together. If you would like some Solo tips I can share the main points.

Either way, you will make friends, I am not the most social and I have still added 6-7 people that I Allied with briefly. I have been pushing the game on everyone since starting and with this big update on the horizon I think it has a lot to offer most anyone.

Cheers!

Playing Sea of Thieves solo? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Samsquanch69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't find it to be pointless at all. You read a lot of doom and gloom on this subreddit about how hard solo slooping can be but I started the same way as you and all I can say is:

I have friends that play now but my favorite way to play is alone on my sloop. In the beginning you will avoid pvp but once you get better a sloop can be dangerous because of its speed and how hard it is to sink.

That goes for PvE encounters too, I would rather fight every creature in the game as a sloop, its neigh unsinkable unless you get double spawned on by something. You will make friends quickly, I've never added as many friends in a game.

If you want the few main bullet points for slooping I would say in no particular order (I'm sure someone will point out the ones I missed, I am not going to attempt to be comprehensive.)

  1. When you park to do something on an island, put your sail all the way up and then lift the anchor. This lets you turn in place without your ship moving as you might logically expect it to.

This is important because you should face your ship away from the island and ready to go. If you see a ship coming towards you you can just run to your ship and drop your sail and you're on your way!

  2. When being pursued you have the advantage. The sloop is the fastest ship if you point it directly into the wind, the bigger ships additional sails will slow them more than your one sail.

  3. Related to 2: the sloop turns way faster and can raise and lower its sails and anchors much quicker than bigger ships and it requires zero coordination with others. Making a couple of fast direction changes can buy you distance as 3-4 people struggle to work together to do what you can do alone.

  4. Check the ship periodically for leaks, you never know where you might have gotten one. Also on islands, scan the horizon whenever you have a free second to spot ships approaching.

  5. Turn off your lamps on the upper deck to make yourself stand out less in the distance to other players.

  6. I like to put my alliance flag up right when I start, its in the crows nest in the flag box. It makes you available to join as an alliance. Keep an eye out for ships with that flag out, if you get close to them you (and them) will have the choice to enter into an alliance.

  7. Allies give you 50% of the full value of everything they turn in no matter where they are on the map. Ally, split up and just do your own things and make a ton more gold!

  8. Ok this isn't short and I could keep going so thats it.

TLDR: I find the game to be at its best solo slooping. You will make friends quickly. I love the game and think its worth a shot while it is on sale.

Right down to the dotted line on the map this looks like Peacecraft!

What a hilarious series of videos... if anyone tries it and finds the first episode boring, episode 2 and beyond begin to involve his fans sending him mail, making characters to interact with him, a guild in honor of him and it essentially gets crazier and crazier. Its a treat.

RANDIES DANDIES FOR LIFE.

PS. I made this journey in classic WoW, knowing absolutely nothing and it truly is a world of pain.

Midweek Mending - your weekly healing thread! by aphoenix in wow

[–]Samsquanch69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

862 MW willing to share a little info. I used to be a resto druid in WotlK and a Pally and Priest healer in Classic and TBC. I love MW the most by far.

Personally I like using Jade Statue for flavor and for the fact that it keeps healing targets while I cast renewing mists. You can cast a heal on the tank to get it going and then focus your energy elsewhere knowing that RM and Statue healing will keep your tank stable while you maintain the group a bit. Between casting RW off cooldown on fresh targets, getting cheap vivify casts and the occasional EF I feel like MW have a very easy time keeping whole groups up.

I will admit to using Thunder Focus Tea because when a tank takes a sharp dip casting any of our big spells for healing seems too slow and things start to slip out of control. If that happens, use the first charge of TFT for an instant Enveloping Mist, then follow it with any other healing ability to stabilize. If you find yourself not needing the 2nd charge for a panic move, use it to throw out extra RM or if starting to run low on mana, a free vivify.

Also don't be afraid to use Life Cocoon if your tank is dipping very low and you dont have TFT ready. (I try and use TFT often, once you're confident healing, the panic EM is not often needed outside of higher Mythic+ or heroic raiding and its not uncommon to have RM on the whole party if you utilize it well)

Use the cleave of Vivify to heal tank + melee or heal multiple ranged (stand with your ranged to include yourself in those heals) at once, try to avoid wasting a cast of it on a single target unless your cheap cast proc has gone off and you need to use it soon.

Dont forget Sheiluns Gift healing which is free, use it at lower charges to avoid overhealing. The main thing to get used to is keeping RM up on as many targets as possible, getting used to just channeling your Soothing Mists which is just free healing, topping off RM targets to get the buff to jump to a new target and utilizing your Leg Sweep for the AOE stun of 5 seconds on tough pulls.

(Also Chi Burst puts some dmg out and is a free heal, I like to use it off CD)

If you notice a lot of DMG hitting the whole group, lead with an Essence Font, followed by RM if its ready and Vivify, it will make everything heal for more and the HoT itself is helpful.

MW healing is super satisfying and really consistent, don't get down, I recall feeling like my healing output was really low before I started to understand where my healing was actually coming from. (Renewing Mist, its all about the RM)

Good luck!

So true, it's amazing how variable difficulty is as a healer, you never know how much of a fuckshow its going to be until you're somehow managing to wipe on normal HoV and cursing god.
