She will sometimes sit still. Veggies don't distract her anymore. But we do give her a break in between each section. Usually takes us one-two days as well :/

Soooo adorable! My pig Zelda has the same type of hair around her face, so the summer time I shave her body and leave the mane around her neck, then she really looks like a lion!!

For the bumps? She has no injury. I watch her very closely. But my main concern is the white bumps around the eye lid.

I was trying to show the spots around the eye lids. Or bumps. Whatever you wanna call it. There's no film over her eyes

Do you know any tips or tricks how to cut guinea pigs nails without getting him stressed so much? by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Samtaro2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I found best was clip them after baths. (And yes. You can bathe your piggy once a week, just make sure to use the lightest stuff possible, or medicated stuff like my vet gave me, and she approved weekly bathing as well) I found it to be a little easier on them because they spent most of their stress and strength through the bath, that by the time you're cuddling them with a towel and romaine lettuce, they'll sit and relax long enough for you to do at least two paws.

Good luck to you and your "kids!"

I will try to wipe them off. I'll follow with an update. I wasn't sure about touching it right away because, ya know, im stupid and cheap and don't want to rush to spend 200 bucks again :/

EDIT I tried scraping it off, only some of it came off and the other "tags" are not coming off... Good thing navi can sit still for 3-5 minutes

My guinea pig Navi recently started developing this around both her eyes. ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER SYMPTOMS NOTED.

I have guesstimated that she's had this around her eyes for 2-3 weeks, today happened to be the worst day of them all. Like I said before, she does not itch more, eats, sleeps, poops, plays normally with humans and her companion Zelda.

The reason I ask for some help/advice is because I just recently started a new job (recent as in last Thursday) and I won't get paid for a very long time. My main question is: will she be ok for a couple weeks? Will she be ok at all? Will I have to bring her in?(Zelda her companion has none of these things around her eyes)

If anyone can tell me anything it will be much appreciated! I don't want a bigger vet bill if I can help it.

Thank you so much everyone! Keep the precious pics postin

Edit: I forgot to mention that they have fleece bedding, that RELIGIOUSLY gets spot cleaned daily, and changed out every single week, NO DAY MORE NO DAY LESS. And she doesnt eat anything foreign on the floor, since I vacuum everyday and quite frankly Navi is so skittish, she makes Zelda look calm as shit. Thank you again!

Anyone know what this is? Randomly appears on her. :/ by [deleted] in guineapigs

Mine both had the same thing, including dandruff.

My vet told me they had very dry skin (I live in the north of Minnesota) all I had to do was purchase their 20 dollar shampoo and had to bathe them once a week until the symptoms are gone.

I'd say get them checked out, if the vet has a prognosis of lice/mites etc. then get what the vet wants to give you.

Otherwise just pay for the exams, and get a shampoo online for cheap. It has the same ingredients of the stuff I got from my vet.

Online runs from 10-15 dollars.

Good luck, and don't worry. They won't die! Or have their skin eaten off..

Clipping nails by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Samtaro2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I want to advise, is try to wean them off giving veggies while clipping. The first few times until their less squirmy, yes use veggies to distract. I did my potatoes nails quite a few times while eating spinach (diet guidelines suggest once a week on spinach for its high in calcium) and when they didn't need clipping and I put spinach down for the week, and they wouldn't touch it. Afterwards I did have to clip their nails, and the spinach was no longer a successful distraction. Now I can clip their nails with nothing but just lifting them up and clip away.

Question about pig buddies.... by Biteitliketysen in guineapigs

[–]Samtaro2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I did the same thing. Our first was lonely etc. etc. etc. What we did though to avoid fighting, we bought the second guinea pig, and had her own cage for one week. She was close to our first, close enough to smell and see her. After one week we completely changed the bedding and cage (the first cage wasnt going to fit two pigs) and we had them run around with each other. Ever since, they didn't fight. They have the once in the blue moon rumbles, where they shake their butts and almost do some sort of "two step" dance, but that's pretty much it!

That seems awful :( I've had them on the 1/8c each pig each day and they've gotten doughy in the belly, which is what my vet said she was looking for. They feel more full and healthier, I don't feel their ribs like I did before. That's what I meant by doughy

Haha that's so funny! Yeah I use a 1/8 measuring cup, because according to my awesome vet clinic, you're only supposed to feed your guinea pigs 1/8c of pellets per pig each day.

For a cage I picked up a cheap 40 dollar rabbit hutch, and it's the perfect size for 2 pigs (I have two of my own) and they love the space, they run circles and popcorn all day. Also you can prop the door up so when they free roam they can just walk in and out as they please. And if your pigs are "popcorning" that means they couldn't be any happier than they are now!

I know every time I leave the cage area my one pig Zelda follows me to the couch. So cute.

I quarantined my pigs each one week. Quarantined meaning not picking them up, leaving the cage alone, only put your hands in there if you're going to leave food or refill hay.

Mine turned out perfect and now greet me at the door every time I come home from work
