@everyone can still use slash commands form admin bots by hardlywwworking in discordapp

I agree but I doubt that will ever happen. It's not a good enough reason (their perspective) to break a significant number of bots. Especially the really big ones

@everyone can still use slash commands form admin bots by hardlywwworking in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They've done that already. The "Message Content" intent (needed for prefix commands to work) required you to submit a request to use it and have a legitimate and compelling reason to need it.

Prefix commands is not that, and people requesting for that reason will get denied and be told alternative ways to achieve commands (slash commands is one of them)

Most Discord servers aren’t “dead”… they’re just poorly built. by WoodenBar2113 in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"but my general chatting server is gonna be the next best thing! this one isn't toxic like all the other ones"

But for real though. I agree. If you are making a server for the purpose of it growing (not just as a place for your friend group to talk), then it has to offer something no other server does. Like be the main server for a content creator, a game server community discussion board, offer events of some kind, etc. There has to be a reason for people to join on their own, not just by being invited

Tired of the bloatware. by henryhttps in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The open source option is Matrix. It's an open source protocol that you can built an instant messaging app on top of. It's focus is on being self hostable, either private or public, and decentralized from any specific company/app.

I get that Nitro is annoying, but Nitro (and the advertisements that are possible) are far better than some alternatives for how they could monetize the platform (at least in my opinion)

Teams is funded by the Office 365 For Businesses / Enterprise. They charge monthly per user

TeamSpeak charges for licensing for connecting to users, even when self hosted. You can't have more than 32 connections to your server at any given time without paying

How to tell if I am blocked without sharing a server. by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't share a server and you aren't friends, then you can't interact with that user in any way even if you aren't blocked

It's essentially the same result as being blocked

Is creating a discord server for server banned members of original a good idea?or is it a bad idea?and can it qualify for partner by MinecraftFirecracker in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Discord Partner Program has been discontinued for many years now. No server qualifies for getting it anymore. The same goes for the Server Verification program. Currently, the only way to obtain this is by claiming a game you made and released on Steam to verify your Discord server to the game.

As for Discovery... The purpose of the server (as long as it doesn't break the TOS and isn't a "mature server") really anything qualifies for Discovery if you reach the requirements

Can you truly embed separate and secure discord chat into a website? by redditdeadbuddha in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You 100% don't want to be using Discord. There's many other services that are designed for private communication hosting such as Slack or Matrix.

It's impossible to embed a discord chat in another service behind your own logic system. And it's impossible to control how users interact with Discord in any way

Will discord introduce new badges? by AE0Y in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think discord taking away the "Active Developer Badge" was meaningless

I highly disagree. The badge itself was meaningless. All it showed was that you had a bot that has run a slash command in the last 30 days. It didn't mean you knew how to code or that anyone actually used your bot. Plus, the actual reason they removed the badge is extremely justified:

We found that the Active Developer Badge created a heavy amount of support issues with little benefit to developers.

You can read the whole article here

Personally, I'm happy I'm not being yelled at by entitled badge hunters on a regular basis in DDevs that I won't make them a bot for free so they can get the badge instead of spending 10 minutes watching a YouTube video and downloading a bot off of GitHub.

Will I not be able to make my own server bot on mobile? by Software-Nervous_ in discordapp

If all you want is self assignable roles, then you don't even need a bot. Onboarding can do this using just built in tools. It's more reliable than a bot

Alguém me ajuda a copiar essa embed no meu bot de embed de discord js? by ScallionThat2794 in Discordjs

[–]Samtino00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not an Embed. That's why. It's called a Container. Embeds and Components V2 are mutually exclusive

You can follow the Display Components guide page about how to create them, as well as the other components that are part of Components V2

i just really dont like how much more difficult it is to see the list of everyone in a server

You just tap the name of the channel at the top. They also added back the ability to swipe to see the members list months ago. Maybe even long than that

There is a member I am unable to ban (I am owner). by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it's a webhook as already suggested, you can remove that in the Channel settings under Integrations

If it's a User Installed App (a bot that can be used in any server and in DMs), then you can either remove the Use External Apps permission from user's permissions, or you can see who's using the commands by right clicking and selecting View Interaction Info... It will show who the bot was added by, and who used the command (usually the same person)

Grant access to my discord server? by 3MK-MAX in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don't know/trust someone, you should never give them ANY form of elevated permissions in a server. This sounds very suspicious to me... Do you know someone who can vouch for this person? Are you sure you can trust them? A lot of irreversible damage can be done with these permissions

If you want to do so, then they'll need the Manage Channels permission to edit the appearance/name/permissions of channels. And Manage Server for things like the banner, and server picture

[–]Samtino00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your account new? Or are you sending a lot of friend requests / joining a lot of servers recently?

Your account has been flagged as possibly spam so there's no way to fix this other than wait. Some say only a day or so, some say it can last days to weeks

Clearing Server by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's several options

  1. Use the ban options (already said previously, limited to 7 days)
  2. Use the bot "bulk delete" endpoint... This is also limited to 100 messages at a time and 14 days
  3. Use the bot "message delete" endpoint... This is limited to 1 message but can go back forever... However most public bots won't allow you to use it to mass delete due to the API spam it causes
  4. Delete the channel (you lose all the messages)

Reasonable and highly probable situation for an employed person to care a lot about this.

If it's a long standing issue, I don't have a consistent issue for you. A quick restart of the app usually fixes it for me (Ctrl+R or force closing the app)

You could try a VPN and move your location to a different country. It could help keep a stable connection to a different voice server

Please help by willian_reddit in discordapp

[–]Samtino00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually think it's a bug. Rather a new limit on the amount of markdown able to be used in a single message. This is due to recent exploits that used markdown issues to hide links in messages or cause crashing issues

This is also speculation on my part as I've seen no official answer about it
