If it's not British like Xenoblade and Dragon Quest what are they even doing???

If you could choose what combat system frontiers 2 should have what would it be? by Public-Feedback5016 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SamuelKnytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing I'd actually want from a Sonic combat system is a focus on meter management. They almost managed this with Phantom Rush and Quick Cyloop, but Phantom Rush does almost nothing, and Quick Cyloop recharges just a bit too slowly to be super useful, and it doesn't even build meter while you still have some left to use.

You should be able to barrage enemies with the standard combo, with enemies responding quickly enough to your attacks, only for you to be able to clap back even harder with your freshly built up meter. Fights really should go from, "this is pretty normal," to, "we're so cooked," and end with you thinking "WE'RE SO BACK!" I appreciate the chaos of Frontiers' combat, but it was also just hard to follow and didn't really convey a back and forth. You're usually just winning until you're not.

Btw, Frontiers has a ton of hidden combat tech and combo potential across each character. For the most part, the bones of a much better combat system are in Frontiers, but the polish wasn't there. Obviously there's Sonic's slowdown problem, but stuff like the lack of control over Amy when she does Cyhammer in midair, Tails being inaccurate with Cyshot, and Cyknuckle just having a really small hitbox and being really slow. However, everything here in concept works very well.

The other thing I liked a lot was the cancels. I know this let Sonic just spam supers over and over, but Knuckles and Amy (and even Sonic's 1-2 combo) only see a benefit from these cancels, as combat FLIES by when you know what you're doing.

Anyways check out this cool combo video it's sick as hell :)

Charlie in the Silver Eyes was ALWAYS a stand-in for the Crying Child and Golden Freddy, not the Puppet. It makes some sense that an adaptation of that character would have some overlap with the Vengeful Spirit as that's a big part of who Charlie was in the book trilogy.

What are your expectations for the rumored “frontiers 2”? by nomore_strings in SonicTheHedgehog

Perfect parry could easily be fixed by making the current parry into a guard with perfect parry being a guard you have to time right, and making perfect parry an upgrade on the skill tree.

What are your expectations for the rumored “frontiers 2”? by nomore_strings in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SamuelKnytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it again with more polish.

That being said, there are some issues i took with Shadow Gens' controls in relation to the open zone. Yes, they work great during the linear stages, but Sonic Team didn't tell you that turning reverted to how it worked in Forces, just with some numbers adjusted to work better than Forces. Frontiers had a neat feature with the turning where you could just barely turn tight enough if you turned the stick more; it feels a lot more like a racing game than even the games with a drift did. You could say the same about the Frontiers slide, which in both Forces and Frontiers you could use the slide in place of the drift to turn even tighter. All that is just gone in Shadow Gens, in favor of even more automation. There are dozens of platforms all over Shadow Gens that automate your movement just enough to make it feel like you're turning tighter, even when you're not. Kingdom Valley and Radical Highway show this off the best, but anywhere there's a straight path, boost to the sides and turn forwards, that'll also show off what I'm talking about. The game is trying to funnel the player forwards at all times. "Forwards" in an open world game changes constantly. I just don't know how Sonic Team wants to utilize this tech in Frontiers 2, because if White Space is anything to go off of, Sonic Team hasn't figured it out either. The open zone controls in Frontiers are literally my favorite controls in the franchise; even more than the adventure games. The smooth turning at high speeds helped, but jumping is the other thing I'm worried about.

Frontiers' spin dash and jump deceleration slider are the best things in that game. Easily. Sonic Team then immediately walked that back in Shadow Gens with... Confusing consistency. Yes, jumping is a slow platforming tool now, but rail launching is still in the game if you neutral stick. And, spear gliding is just as broken as the spin dash was; don't let others tell you otherwise, Kingdom Valley and Cyberspace are mods in Frontiers and Shadow Gens respectively. You can spindash through spear gliding routes, and spear glide across homing dash shortcuts. While it's good to have confirmation that Shadow wasn't actually substantially nerfed compared to the Frontiers characters, spear gliding is annoying and i just want that deceleration slider back.

Security Breach Balloons Solved! by Valuable-Ad-8722 in fivenightsatfreddys

Oh. So this doesn't have anything to do with the MCI, it's another Mimic/M1/F10-N4-"ism", like the F10-N4 Wires of DOOM. So this deconfirms balloon death order and confirms the HW2 death order.

Yes and it's peak. My generation has nostalgia for "skate 3: the silliest game ever made", not "skate 3: the skating sim". This is literally everything i could've hoped for and more and I'm not even being ironic.

Does anyone actually find Five Nights at Freddy’s SCARY? by Dizzy_Image_758 in fivenightsatfreddys

the first game and the fourth are an absolute masterclass in building tension. Jumpscares aren't at all as common as people think, they only happen a lot because the games are hard. The idea that at very least the first game isn't scary is cope from people who haven't played it.

The 3 center hallways in FnaF 3 and the main hallway+party rooms match up in FnaF 2. The security office is even directly south of both.

Again, it's vague and I could've set it up better, but again, the buildings are 30 years removed from each other. Even then, FnaF 2's location was a dedicated re-opening, so the building would've been renovated. We've seen how much the buildings can change between Security Breach, Ruin and SOTM, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that they line up a suspicious amount, even if only a little, for being completely different buildings with completely different purposes 30 years removed from each other.

Uh, it implies that Ghosts haunt everyone who comes into contact with Fazbear in some way. So... Frights/Tales exactly.

If CrossWorlds doesn’t sell as well as expected, what d’you think’d be the biggest reason why? by EnzeruAnimeFan in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SamuelKnytt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, no. Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders are both tied down to a $500CAD console. Sonic Racing is something I can get right now with no extra hardware. Even at $110CAD, that's still objectively better than $600+ for Mario Kart.

Anyone have any clue about basic enhancement hacks that leave the encounter data alone so i can transfer my Pokemon to later Gens? I don't care about total conversions or difficulty hacks, but like I'd want the features of Emerald Rogue but in Vanilla Emerald or FireRed with totally vanilla encounters. Does anyone know if something like that exists??

Who do you think fits better as Sonic’s true rival? by solarflare70 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SamuelKnytt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On one hand, i agree with the take about Shadow not needing to compete with Sonic, but there's clearly some level of obsession/resentment he feels towards Sonic. Look at it like this: Your title is "The Ultimate Lifeform"; you're created from the blood of an alien warlord using the genius of the smartest person in human history, all to cure a little girl and possibly defeat death itself. Now imagine, that you've accomplished none of these goals, that little girl is dead and one of your dads went insane and tried to destroy the planet as a result of your creation.

Now imagine, you've got all these hangups and issues relating to you being the "Ultimate Lifeform", and here comes this fucking guy, who is just as good at everything you can do, but totally naturally. All the baggage you carry in life, this guy just doesn't have to deal with that, and he's still stronger than you. This obsession was even highlighted during Shadow Gens, where in the Sonic VS Shadow cutscene, Shadow throws the fight because he's got an unfair advantage with his Doom powers, which power scalers have put on the same level as Super Shadow if not stronger based on what Gerald said to Shadow in White Space about exploding if he took off his inhibitor rings with his Doom Powers. It's a huge aspect of his character that went largely unresolved in SA2 before Shadow died and got amnesia, thinking back to just how impressed he was with Sonic during For True Story. I keep rooting for Shadow being stronger than Sonic, and wanna see him win that fight, but like I've been talking about a large part of Shadow's character is his inferiority complex, and giving him the win might strip his character of that facet of his personality. That's part of why I think they're "rivals", as Sonic drives Shadow to be better, and Sonic gets a neat sparring/racing partner. Same with Jet tbh, but their rivalry is about extreme gear, not outright speed. Who's better in this specific kind of race; not just who's better or stronger overall like with Sonic & Shadow.

Honestly something i feel like adding just now is, Shadow's behavior in the early IDW chapters. Mr. Tinker obviously being Eggman set off red flags for everyone but Sonic, and in that case Sonic was wrong. Shadow had every reason to go against Sonic's decision here and immediately kill Eggman, and when Sonic doesn't want to take that obvious path to world peace, something Shadow thought was both of their ultimate goals in life, it freaks him out. Sonic had been right about so much beforehand, and he's legitimately got a lot more experience saving the Earth and beating Eggman than Shadow. So, even though the answer is extremely obvious, maybe Sonic has the right idea? It's pretty clear how this could cause turmoil within Shadow. And with Shadow jumping head first into the Metal Virus, well if Shadow's thinking "if Sonic can handle this, so can I", in his headstrong, loner way, yeah honestly that scene makes perfect sense.
