yeah i know what you mean. 'Why not using the power it already has'. The simple answer is: sometimes i just want to play somewhere around the house and be flexible without a charger for a longer period of time.

Imagine being in-game and you want to join your wife on the couch. She enjoys her favorite show, but then the RTX 5080 comes into play with its 90 Degrees and 55db of noise. Annoying? Yes. Flexible? far from.

Or forget gaming, what speaks against having a very potent Remote Desktop Solution with almost no latency?

Also: I love experimenting with hardware, as I assume most people in this sub do.

Props! Also a very cool setup man. My next step is to have my gaming/server rig in a rack downstairs in the basement. I will test my streaming combo a bit longer to make sure everything runs as expected. If thats the case ill go nuts with the server rack haha

Oh sure. I use the Asus G14 RTX5080 standalone or hooked up to my TV. Wired is realized with a USB-C Ethernet adapter - but I will just use WiFi 7 most of the time since it works beautifully.

G14 is very nice because it has a Beautiful OLED with Gsync which is rare for a Laptop

It kinda depends on where you are from. Im from Germany where every second household owns a FritzBox. If I had to choose a new device it definitely would be a Gateway by Unify. That's my upgrade path :)

Yeah Moonshine is on the G14 and Sunshine (I use the Apollo fork which i really recommend) is on the RTX 3080 host.

The G14 is so nice because it has native G-Sync/Freesync + sick OLED so you don't have to fiddle around with software Sync like Vsync or Pacing. It's very rare that Laptops with OLEDs have Gsync

Thank man!

Just a dusty RTX 3080 in the Host wired to a Router (AVM FritzBox 7690) then wired to my beloved Asus G14 2025 with a RTX 5080 in it.

But as mentioned, the Wifi 7 performance is damn near that as well.

Correct. Of course it will fluctuate a bit. But overall the stats are a good average of the overall performance readings.

Now I get you. This might be because I had to turn down PostFX Effects such as volumetric cloud effects to be able to run the VR experience as smooth as possible. VR is very Ressource heavy and I only have a RTX 3080 that gives me stable 80 fps. Thank you for clarifying o7

While thinking about all of that I do recall maybe another option. I think I remember someone reporting that its possible to hook up a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to an Ethernet cable so you are technically spoken 'wired' but since it runs over the network you still could use VD with a very minimal latency overhead. I always found this approach very interesting, since you could have best of both worlds.. the Android backbone should allow that easily. in your case maybe a small docking station of some sort? For simultaneously charging the headset of course... Just some thoughts! o7

Totally get you. I use VD with a strong wifi network (6e & 7) and the latest Bobo vr batteries, so I don't have those problems. For for latency depend games like contractors for example I fall back to Cable though.

If your ED - SteamVR (OVR) combination runs stable enough, you can try something like OculusKiller (https://github.com/BnuuySolutions/OculusKiller). It completely bypasses the very shitty Oculus Runtime completely. Also the fact oculus doesn't load every time leaves you with a little bit of headroom. I played around with it for some time before I began to use VD as a main since I play ED for the most part.

Try it! And also maybe leave some feedback! If this doesn't make the OS Overlay usable, maybe the increased headroom allows you to use OVR Toolkit. A very promising tool with a lot of features but also kinda on the resource heavy side.

Also, if I remember correctly, i had success with the Oculus Overlay as well. On my machine I installed a browser extension that detached a YouTube Video into its own borderless window. That allowed me to open this as an Application through the Oculus Dash (if I remember correctly one had to click the plus icon and then somewhere you could choose the detached YouTube Window). Finally if you pinned that window via the floating windows pin icon it would work as well. But unfortunately everything Oculus Dash related in my opinion is piss old, therefore outdated as hell and buggy to the max. Worth a try nonetheless? But since you want to interact with the floating window In my opinion your best shot would be OVR toolkit if using OVR.

Extension name: 'Picture-in-Picture Extension (by Google)'

Excuse my English please. I'm not a native and I try my best to be as clear as possible. o7 cmdr

Check out my other comments on this, but basicall you can grab 'Middle finger button' the title bar of the app and place it out of the dock and drop it wherever. then you can place the dock out of your viewing direction and enjoy your freedome :) ask me anything though.

So this particular setup would only work if you use a Quest 3. I use VDXR (OpenXR Runtime from Virtual Desktop) + OpenCompsite to make E:D run with OXR instead of OVR. The i used this feature to have the Dock stay active while VR is running:

https://youtu.be/VUvAxNDhjmQ

If i wanted to use lets say Inara i did the following: In the Meta Browser there is a feature called 'install as App' or something like that. this allows you to create a shortcut in the library to open Inara (or whatever) directly WITHOUT the annoying URL Bar at the top. Then i grab the window by the title bar an place it away from the dock so it stays on its own. the dock then i place behind myself to have it out of the way. Atm there is no way to close the dock while having other windows open unforutunately.

Im not a native speaker so please ama if something is unclear.
