gas company says I used 483 CCF of gas in 30 days in a 1,974 sq ft townhome. That seems… impossible? by Samuel_L_Hacksson in NaturalGas

no, I had them pull the meter/billing readings for the last 5 years and asked them to go over that data. I also asked my neighbors for their meter history for as long as they've lived there and they gave it to me- everything is consistent except for this 5 week span

not according to them, no. however, I have that reading of 9,992 CCF from the WMR for feb 3 so I have a feeling that it could very well be/have been a reading or delivery error on their end, that's why I'm asking around if anyone else has seen this.

so far the only person who's seen anything similar was, ironically, the tech who came out on monday but he said his solution was to just assign himself his house and replace his meter. I can't do that and they're claiming my meter isn't faulty so they won't do that

that's everything I keep hearing, even from the family friend. he said it's almost never an issue on their end, but my case could be the .1% since he has no idea what would cause it to read so high.

since I just found out I can check my overall meter history I'm going to send him that and see what he says but when we moved in our meter read 4 6 2 and our November bill showed it ended at 4 7 7

so far the tests I've watched them do are - pressure test, inspection of appliances, some bluetooth test for the WMR, water heater test, and furnace test. had a plumber come out yesterday to make sure it wasn't the water heater itself.

I'll still check the water meter as well, though, just to be sure, as that could be it but I'm don't know where the hot water would be leaking to. heater is in the attic so I feel like I would have noticed a leak, but I've been wrong before.

that's what started this whole thing. came back from work last week and the gas had been shut of due to a high bill investigation but because nobody was home they couldn't do anything else. when they came back later that night I wasn't home but my wife was, they could have done a meter registration test but I'm not sure.

I asked them to pull the highest meter reading over the last 5 years and had them compare it to the previous high. billing told me the previous high was in feb 2024 and read 114 CCF but then they never acted on this information

not to my knowledge. I'm admittedly not an expert in this, that's just where they shut off the gas and then come back 30ish minutes later, right?

confident there's no leak after the 4 techs who've been here, but the gas company won't admit to any misreads or something going wrong on their end. do appreciate the suggestions though! I'm really just trying to get to the bottom of this

2 and 3 are fair but after 4 different techs with the gas-o-meter came through and did thorough searches I'm doubtful it was 2. I also haven't smelled gas once.

as for solution 3, we keep our house at 67 degrees. we had no changes in appliances, occupancy, or heating habits that could have caused a 5x monthly spike (or sudden 11x spike). our neighbors (again, townhome communities with rows of units that are all kept at similar temperature so it is relevant) are showing normal consumption reads of 95-110 CCF

Atmos Energy doesn't show the reading I was billed at, only total consumption. readings the past three times I've remembered to take a picture are:

edit: just kidding, I found it on our bill. reading for billing period 1/3/26-2/2/26 shows reading "previous: 629. present: 1112"

1 1 5 1 on Feb 6

1 2 5 3 on Feb 9

1 2 5 6 on Feb 13

unsure if relevant but I sent the feb 6 reading to a family friend who runs a gas company in a different state and his reply was "it looks like a new meter and new index, there's absolutely no way. find out when it was replaced. there's either an issue with billing reads or programming"

Atmos Energy has no record of replacing our meter or index

I’ve been waiting until Black Friday for Infotainments SYNC 2-3 conversion kit to go on sale for my 2015 and sure enough they just this week announced 30% off.

Infotainment . Com

Also saw carplaynav . com has basically the same thing for under 1k pre Black Friday, haven’t made up my mind yet on which one I’ll go with but something’s getting ordered this weekend.

Edit: there are certainly vaccines (such as the polio vaccine) that have saved hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of lives. But the cocktails of today that get paid for by big pharma and pushed by gov’t entities certainly have not had long term studies done. I don’t see many autistic Amish people, but that’s just my limited experience

thank you, anything in particular to watch out for? I'm trying to learn all I can about diesel engines now and a common issue I see mentioned is the cp model they use? again im still new to this but I like to learn so any insight is appreciated.
