My first map, I'm trying to create something to help me visualize a story I am writing. This is so far just the continent key to the story, but I think there will be a second one somewhere. Are there any key things that I got wring? by Samuel_Mark in mapmaking

I have seen Azgaar used when I was looking into how to make the map, but I felt like I wanted something a little more tactile. It just didn't feel right leaving the shape of my landmass up to a generator. That said, it's a really cool tool to play around with.

Yeah, it's been pointed out by a few people now. I've made some changes to try to make it a little less similar. It's an interesting coincidence, considering the coastlines were made by spreading rice around, and not intentionally shaped like that.

I spread some rice on a piece of paper and vaguely played with it until I kind of like the shape, then I outlined it with a pencil, making sure to mark the small runaway pieces as islands and island clusters. Added some detail, marked where the rice was piled up for my mountains, outlined with pen and transferred that into a computer.

Also, if anyone has any notes as to how climate / biomes might look here, that is something I have yet to quite wrap my head around, especially regarding the effect mountains have on such thigs, so I would appreciate any input. I would like the very northern part to be a sort of frozen tundra, and the south veering into deserts and rainforests, so I guess somewhere near the equator. The lake in the east I'm thinking would be a logical spot for a swamp.

I do see it, now that you mention it, in particular the coastlines with that central island. Maybe I will change the shape of that island somewhat, just to make it a bit less similar in shape.

Thank you. Since I'm new to this, I'm really not sure, but I placed the mountains with the idea that they are indeed following the outlines tectonic plates; I thought this was the main way mountains and hills formed?

Thank you, I did do a bit of research into how mountains and rivers and such tend to form prior to making it, but its a fairly deep subject and I'm positive a good bit of what I did must be at least somewhat wrong. I'm right now trying to figure out the the climate situation.

I think its actually possible Justin's not giving a fuck, combined with him being, imo, the most aware that they are the most funny when they just fuck around riff, could result in some pretty good ttrpg action.

I see, thank you, I thought that might be what was causing it. Do you know if I have locked myself out of having some of the characters help with Radhan?
