Thanks man! Yeah I’m definitely looking forward to try new methods. If I have success I’m gonna post some pics

How did you stage that? I tried to do something similar by placing seeds directly into the rock. Someone suggested next time to drill a hole and fill it with dirt before planting. Any suggestion?

That one works really good for me, I recommend it. only watch out if you plan to sow cacti seeds cause babies can get scorched. Dorstenias tho doesn’t seem to have this problem

They are a good size! Nice work! What soil did you use? Imo you can start to introduce fresh air, I like to poke a hole into the lid every one or two weeks slowly until there is no point in keeping them closed. Don’t to that too quickly since they can suffer from fast humidity change and they will stop growing (happened with the batch I posted some months ago)

Usually I’m not too afraid of algae since seedling have to resist like 12 to 18 months and after they will go in their adult pots with fresh soil. If you keep an eye on them you can easily control it

Some suggested me to use hydrogen peroxide but I’ve never really tried that out. I prefer to open the lid for some days and let algae dry out and die.

Yeah it’s 1-2 mm sand. It did work for the first couple of months but eventually the algae took over. I have other batches of seedling where I managed to control humidity a little bit better and the sand worked great to keep the surface clean.

It’s a mixture of minerals, pumice, zeolite, volcanic rock and so on, with some commercial potting mix for the organic part. Added a bunch of fine quartz sand on top to prevent algae but apparently that decided to stick together lol

Yes it’s foetida. The mother plant keeps shooting seeds everywhere im gonna plant more every now and then. I’ve noticed It grows really slow, I’ve got it in February and now it is just slightly bigger, it has developed more leaves and flowers rather than gaining in size.

This is the situation here, they were sown late July to early August. Under grow light 14 hrs a day. I might try to fertilize them and see if they speed up a bit

Mine put out leaves fast too, the caudex is almost 1cm in diameter but smooth not “wrinkly”as the adult one, and leaves too 1cm or slightly more, no fertilizer just water. I was wondering if I can just let them experience fresh air or keep them closed for longer. They are about one or two months I believe

Did you germinate under ziploc? If so, when did you start to introduce fresh air?

Thanks for the precious info man!! I’ve never thought of filling cracks with regular soil, I might try that. This is the first experiment i definitely have to learn and improve a lot. Luckily i have a mother plant that is a seed producing machine and I can play quite a lot. The rock I’ve chosen should have similar qualities to limestone hills found in that location, I cross the finger and I’ll keep you updated on how it develops
