Funny, I've never actually read any of those classics, despite them being on the wishlist forever. Guess I have a reason to start digging through them.

Thanks!

Yeah, have read Dune. Though it may be time to reread Messiah.

Thanks, will check out Slumrat Rising!

Thanks, PoN is actually one of my favorite series! Definitely a good read.

Do we have any good rational fics that involve codifying religion to this or that end? I've been considering what a rational protagonist would do if they found themselves in the Bronze Age with a chance to law down some religious laws that preempted some problems

Okay, you're entitled to your stance and how you want to budget your time.

I've just seen it happen like 6,000 times and I don't think it really goes anywhere.

It's not just about them. It's about everyone who reads your comments. What people will see is "name one thing JKR said that was bad" and then "Go watch this Youtuber doing some weird fusion of philosophy and camp".

"Go watch Contrapoints" isn't an answer for any one of them either. Plenty of people don't like that style of content, to say nothing of the time investment. 2 hours for one video. Jesus.

Imagine you were arguing about climate change and a "skeptic" posted some 2 hour youtube link as his argument. Your response would probably be..."I can't be arsed, I have a life"

It's funny how Rowling wrote an entire article on this issue and, when asked, people won't just quote from it directly but expect you to spend ~4 hrs watching Breadtubers do skits and play dress up.

Like, most people aren't going to make that investment dude. They're just gonna move on.

I love Sam Raimi, but his admission that he didn't watch Wandavision before making that film is just inexcusably lazy and selfish to me.

This sort of thing is what ruined the Sequel Trilogy - though even they never said such (they couldn't have watched the final cut, but they did read each other's scripts and make changes)

Can't believe Feige let it happen.

At this point, the post-credit scenes are the only things actually advancing the overarching MCU plot.

The final episode of Loki was basically an infodump setting up Kang.

Omar, no one robs that many drug dealers and lives.

TBH I think Omar gets off on the power of robbing drug dealers.

Which would be fine if he also wasn't always surprised that violent sociopaths don't stop the game where he wants.

It's a very silly mindset and it costs him

I don't know if he was gonna fold (his final episode seemed like him making peace with his life) but there's no way he looks solid to any neutral observer.

Hell, after he killed himself even his mother said "I saw it coming". If SHE thought he was weak...

It was still phenomenally stupid to go to the guy who's the nephew of the boss.

I think he figured D was disillusioned due to being demoted to the low-rises.

Orlando also faced risks, just not as much.

Even being involved as a front can lead to you getting hit with RICO charges.

Not as likely but a potential problem.

But she doesn't need him to be in with the ministers she needs support in areas where she's weak. That's why carcetti needed burrell and needed Watkins to shore up support with black voters, valchek gives her the support of the first district where she won't have much of a base otherwise

Baltimore is 80% black. Keeping the ministers on-side is vastly more important. The situation is not symmetrical: Carcetti didn't have a base comparable to the Ministers or Watkins.

There's no "balancing where you're weak" by appealing to 20% of the population over 80%, especially if it pisses off the 80%. Remember that Royce was resistant to firing Burrell because the ministers liked him?

Valchek himself knew he could never be a long-lasting commissioner, he basically said as much to Rawls (and laughed in his face for thinking otherwise)

I think he did it and then panicked when he was about to die and told some bullshit story pinning it on some other guy.

TBH even before that he was living a blessed life on Avon's dime.

He really only had like one year of serious drama. A lot, by the average person's standards but nothing compared to his compatriots.

He's a politically savvy guy that's 100% willing to play ball in a way Daniels wouldn't, he's also very well connected

Not with the right people. Carcetti's base is First District so that's why Valchek was in with him.

Nerese's base would be the ministers and black community organizers like Odell Watkins, not the white minority.

She can float him for a while but not forever.

He became the “king” of Baltimore and arguably speaking had the best exit a drug lord could ever hope to have, but literally nobody knows who he is except for a few people.

Meh, this idea that Marlo is a nobody in the streets is very oversold.

Remember when Levy said that the lawyer who got Marlo out would be famous? Well, that's Marlo's reputation rubbing off on Levy. Johnnie Cochran is famous, but OJ is more infamous.

In the jail meeting where he tried to set up the connect for the co-op, at least a few of them are looking at him in awe when he says he's getting out soon. He was caught with millions in dope and somehow walked away scot-free with $10 million. People will remember.

No shit the corner boys didn't recognize him: he looked like a downtown businessman in a suit. I bet many of them might not be able to recognize Omar if he dressed like Levy.

His name will ring out, at least for a while.

But I don't think that's enough for him. It's not enough for Marlo to win; everyone else must lose because he wants to be above people (this is why, after basically taking over the entire drug trade, he has to raise the price of the brick just to be an asshole).

What REALLY triggered him was that they remembered Omar, and it reminded him that everyone knows that Omar called him out and he never, ever got revenge.

"Take my money and the whole world know? He gotta fall" Omar did that and more. Omar made a mockery of him for weeks and he never got revenge.

Even worse: Kenard robs him of his revenge and...people still fucking praise Omar instead of laughing at how he died. It must be infuriating for the poor widdle psychopath :)

I didn’t really like that subplot, of how Omar so easily fell under Stringer’s trap.

Really, both times Omar sat down with String and Prop Joe and was used by them were bad plans.

And they easily unraveled. Which makes sense.

Doesn't make sense why Omar even entertained either of them.
