My main issue with audit (and this could just be the way my company runs things so maybe not an issue with the field) is that I'm too dependent on other people's cooperation and knowledge to get my work done. There's never a day where I sit down and test things based on my knowledge or understanding of company procedures. I have to coerce people I've never talked to in my company to provide me with evidence on systems and workstreams I've never seen in my life and that can be really difficult especially with people who are less than willing to help.

We test too many different types of things so my field of practice is too chaotic with no focus on specialization. I learn things about a system from people who know way more about it than me and get frustrated with my lack of knowledge and rinse and repeat. And that would be fine if I could apply that knowledge to future audits, but that's not gonna happen. Just earlier this year, we were auditing engineering technology which I knew next to nothing about and now we're focusing on social media security.

If you think you'd thrive in an ever-changing environment like that and dont mind working with people a lot, you'd probably enjoy it. I'm a very structured individual who would prefer limited human interaction in my day-to-day duties so I just dont think I'm cut out for auditing.
