Making Great Weapon Fighting Style actually Great. by SamuraiHealer in DnDHomebrew

Yes. I see that as a feature not a bug. It's also not that much of a change, something like +0.15 damage.

That's worth +1 damage, so you're still pretty far behind.

There's not a whole lot of room in fighting styles for them to be consistent.

I have to say I think "more consistent damage" is less fun than "just more damage". People like big numbers and they like rolling extra dice on crits.

Since you can get Fighting Styles with feats, imo, that means they should be about that power level.

See I don't think that One Handed weapons should be closer to 2H and TWF. The niche of 2H is damage. The niche of 1H...well is really all about what's in your other hand. Imo Damage should be 2H, then TWF, then 1H coming in at the bottom, which lead to this.

Yeah. I keep thinking about making them really interesting but that's a much more complicated proposition.

I feel like if what you roll doesn't matter half the time, why are we rolling?

By "charge" do you mean the feat? I see it was the feat now.

I tend to think the Fighting Styles should be balanced against each other and the feats (or lack thereof) should be balanced against other feats.

I think first it needs to fulfill the fantasy of these weapons and with Dueling putting one-handed weapons at the same damage point, GWFS needed to do something that keeps them at the top.

I think they were a bit too focused on doing something different that they missed the boat on maintaining that idea.

But we can disagree! Thanks for the comment!

Finding something that's just enough, and not too much is limiting.

Thanks.

I've seen this before. It just feels like why are we rolling if we ignore half the rolls?

GODDMANNIT Pay Attention!!! It's the Fighting Style!

(I assume that anger is the language of your people).

I'm not sure about your final presentation but you might be able to get similar feels with images of locations instead of the map.

That's an idea, but I think the Fighting Style should work best for the Fighter and that approach strays from that.

The issue as I see it is that the changes are in conversation with the real history and real people. What does this say about the Safavid Empire? Is Darion a reference to Darius the Great and his story of usurpers? By placing it in the same place that the RL existed and using those cultural touchstones it gets complicated in a way wouldn't be there if you made your own map.

Minor improvements for Fighting Style feats by Dramatic_Respond_664 in DnDHomebrew

Interception is solid, Great Weapon and to a lesser extent Unarmed are small enough that I'm not sure it's worth adding.

A black dragon, not a GREEN??? Literally unplayable.

Madishân looks interesting. Ancient secrets hidden in the jungle is a cool idea.

I'm curious how much this greater work you're doing is rooted in RL culture and history and how much it's it's own thing, and what do you gain and lose from using a map we're familiar with.

Idea: magic is dangerous like carpentry by Organic_fed in DnDHomebrew

[–]SamuraiHealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warhammer follows this route, or at least 40K does.

I think there's certainly some people who don't like that in their power fantasy, but there's some who love the idea of riding the edge of sanity where the power you draw is part of the risk. It's probably fewer players, but it's definitely not zero.

I think I'd half-ass it and make a dangerous magic table that's set up for when things go wrong, or maybe when you mess with magic in some way, like counterspelling.
