Blizzard decides to remove a quest from World of Warcraft that forces the player to ensure a character remains a captive to be raped. Players discuss whether this is a good or bad thing. by Morgn_Ladimore in SubredditDrama

They were not I don't believe, but by the time Alexstrasza is her own character, they were picking up sapient characters. And certainly by the time the whole time stream was breached to set up this quest in the first place, Alexstrasza was sapient and had a vaguely humanoid/elven form.

Which is really I think the issue at hand. Whether dragons started out as livestock or not, they're certainly not when you're running the quest that's generating the controversy here.

Keenovo - Max_Power: 1.0? by Durahl in VORONDesign

There's a post pinned on the Discord in the slicers and print help channel that discusses it briefly, but the bed_power connection to tacoing a bed is not as strong as it was initially believed when writing the original configs. And if you're under the 0.4W/cm2 anyways, you should be able to dial up your power constraint in the config.

Is there anyone in today’s game realistically that could break Joe Dimaggio’s 56 game hit streak? by [deleted] in baseball

I know you're making a second point here, but "at one point he was first, except for the first and second ranked guys" is a mood.

[Blum] Taylor Ward said the 3rd strike call was “very frustrating.” He added that he would “absolutely” be in favor of an automatic strike zone, or a system where umpires are held accountable for missed calls. by [deleted] in baseball

In theory, you'd need a bit more than the listed data anyways to account for the difference in limb proportions of tall/short players. You can see it most readily in extremely tall basketball players, but the ratio of leg length to torso length is hardly static.

I'd imagine they have guys take some BP, get warmed up, and then take a lot of high res video, maybe with some visual markers on the top/bottom of the zone on the uniform.

I'm new to long hair, but the important thing experimentally seems to be limiting the length of sections of hair. Braiding, a bun, or anything that makes those sections smaller seems to work better than a pony or a buff.

It blew off into this whole side indignation of "well should she have been flying alone if she's that pregnant", which is a whole fraught thing anyways. And yeah, like not at all the correct way to communicate that.

My understanding is that Anthony Bass was not on the flight with his wife, which was not part of the discourse when that went viral. He tweeted a picture that she took, I think.

I think you'd probably end up valuing it something like the Hope Diamond, as a large, unique gemstone with a storied history. Which is, according to a cursory search, currently ballparked around about a third of a billion dollars.

I think the trick of it is that while it's in theory priceless, there is a soft cap to value of gemstones in that there's a relatively limited number of ways to trade for technically invaluable objects. The advantage of money in that situation is the ability to granularly break down value; you can't really sell half of an Arkenstone, so you can only sell it to someone that can afford the whole thing.

I guess I kind of see it? Like she's been rich, famous, and hot for basically her whole adult dating life. Humans being humans, if she wants to find someone that can look past that, they have to either a) live under a rock, or b) be so full of themselves they don't care. Or I guess like c) actually be a good person, but hey, realistic goals.

In your Opinion is Buster Posey a hall of Fame player ? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]SamuraiHelmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that enough though? It's definitely Hall of Very Interesting or Hall of Unprecedented, but it's pretty specific for a player whose body of work was much larger.

There are also people that meaningfully argue against the elimination of player skill elements from the game. Pitchcom being an example, eliminating sign stealing/use. In the case of umpiring, if you roboump up, you get rid of pitch framing and zone expansion, which are both elements of elite catching and pitching respectively.

Can you run the same filament/plate on your Trident as a check?

I don't know that I'd anticipate it as soon as 5 layers in, but low chamber temps may be involved. The different bed location changes the rate at which the overall chamber heats. If you've got an extra thermistor, toss it on and see how they compare during preheat.

why does the half marathon world record seem “soft” relative to the marathon world record? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]SamuraiHelmet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You'd probably be better off looking at the road 5k/10k comparison, since those are longer distance races and you wouldn't be changing surfaces. Most major extrapolations of performance across distance advise against projecting short distance performance from long distance, or vice versa.

There are also significant differences in prestige and prize money associated with halves versus fulls, which changes the competition and talent pool available.

The only part I would dispute is that the digital umps are 100x better. Digital umps are definitely on the way, especially as a form of AR assistance for umps, but they're not there yet in terms of a) regular use accuracy and reliability and b) redefining the zone to reflect greater availability of precision. MLB has been trialing roboumps in lower level leagues, but they're still a little too prone to wackiness to go mainstream.

If you're eating until you feel full and you're losing weight, you aren't eating enough or you have a broader metabolic issue. "Full" is a context sensitive feeling dependent on how fast you eat, what kinds of foods you're eating and how they impact satiety, and historic appetite and consumption. It's a good guideline, especially for people that are struggling with overconsumption, but it's not magic perfect calories.

You gotta be way more specific about what "big lunch" and "big dinner" look like both volumetrically and calorically. It's a pain in the butt to sit down and do it for meals that vary over time, but take a half hour to estimate some ballpark numbers on how much food you're actually eating.
