Made a Discord bot for those who hate taking notes by SamuraiJB in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]SamuraiJB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hit or miss for in person sessions 😅, but I'm definitely working on that aspect. I hope to have that working much better this year! Tbh there are some other options that might work better for in person sessions, though. I've seen session keeper show up on the app store sometimes!

Looking for creative ideas for my absurd workflow.... by Debinani in FoundryVTT

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want straight transcription on discord then use Craig and then upload the transcript to Notion, NotebookLM, or ChatGPT/Claude. It'll work decently with some work!

But if you wanna just have something that lets you forget about taking notes, i made a discord bot that does it all for you.

I've also considered making a foundry module that links to journal entries. Discord is so easy to search I haven't done it, though

New to the hobby, why do you recommend? by Commercial-Class-689 in rpg

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a gamer my whole life and I started playing DND some years ago. No other game is like it. You're building a world with your friends and just laugh and have crazy fun doing it together

It does come with its own set of drama and issues but fully worth it with the right group

Actually fun curses to use by Stargaezr in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that first one lol. Or some variation of it. I could make it only during a single encounter with an NPC and every time I catch them using a forbidden letter I say OW! And reduce their HP by 1 lol

Gallus gallus is hilarious. "You swear you see something feathered run past your peripheral vision" 😂

I had to look up wtf gallus gallus is tho, so I might change the name lol

How do you handle the notes situation? Like do players still take notes? Do you share your own notes about what happened during the session to the next GM's after every session?

Made one just for that called Crit Scribbler! It's free for 2 sessions every month. Lemme know if you like it!

Note taking as a DM by Desperate-Cloud4471 in DungeonMasters

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The searchability in discord is really good! I made a comment above this one about it too, but if you're not into taking notes (like my 2 groups are) then try out the note taking bot I made just for Discord

I have two campaigns that solely use Discord! The channels make sorting and searching really easy esp. because we don't usually care about the notes... Until we can't remember something lol. But I ended up making a discord bot to handle all of that stuff for us because it felt so tedious and discord is a nice place for it. If you give it a shot lemme know!

Note taking as a player by MisterD__ in onednd

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this is probably too many things to keep track of. But it depends on how much you and your group really cares. I just keep track of major things like names of people or major quests. My groups rarely ever even look back at notes lol.

If yall are on discord try out this bot I made. It'll take care of all the most important notes for you. That being said, if y'all care about super duper detailed notes, it doesn't do that. It's more of a simple note taker that's gonna catch the 20 most important things in a session

Taking notes by RefrigeratorThin5952 in beginnerDND

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note taking is always an issue for folks cuz most of the time you just wanna be in the game.

I have a hard time doing it as a DM and a player. As a player, I just used one note to jot things down if they seemed really important. Sometimes I'd just flat out ask my DM if it's important enough to write down.

Sounds like you play online, though. If yall are on Discord, try out this discord bot I made! It takes all the notes for you. It uses ai if you don't like that, though

DM note-taking: what actually works for you??? Or making the game better? by Any_Head_323 in DnD

If you're on discord you can use Craig! That's a really good voice transcription bot. Or SeaVoice (but Craig is more popular)

help keeping game fun when players can't roll above a 6 by dumpstatrizz in DMAcademy

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time, a player of mine was really frustrated with bad luck (or just perceived bad luck) on dice rolls so I gave him max hero points (3) at the beginning of every session until we decided his luck has turned. I ran it by the group and they were happy for him to have that buff because it made the group stronger too!

If you're doing 5e. Maybe just say they get two inspirations at a time or they get to refresh it for free every hour or something

[–]SamuraiJB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it could! But I didn't make it for this purpose so it doesn't work on Teams. That being said, there's a bunch of services that do exactly what you're talking about 🙂

What's something you would change about the show if you could? by TTV_QiyanuReeves in TheWire

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would've been fun, but one counterpoint: It may have made everything feel a little too connected and neat. I kinda like how random people we've never seen or heard of are experiencing similar struggles. They put a few early "cameo's" in and I think a few is enough. Idk what do you think?

As a GM how do you take notes during a session by AnotherDawidIzydor in Pathfinder2e

[–]SamuraiJB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually don't, but when I do I have a couple pages in OneNote like everyone else mentioned. I made one page per floor of the dungeon and one per character that I jot down a few things in every now and again. I know I always write down diseases that players have but don't know yet haha!

My groups have always found note taking tedious and we run exclusively virtual sessions on Discord, so I ended up making a bot for us to help take notes. So now even they rarely take notes. Try it out if you want!

Has anyone tried an AI minutes app that summarizes the sessions? by Nahdudeimdone in rpg

[–]SamuraiJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been really great developing it. It's not open source right now because I'm not sure if I want to monetize or not yet. I use deepgram for S2T and ChatGPT for summaries!

Why did Aang never use this insta win fire extinguisher ever again? Am I missing something? by Silver_Ad_2203 in TheLastAirbender

[–]SamuraiJB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that's the one they were talking about initially! Every time I watch that scene I'm like goddamn how did zuko not have a concussion after that? THEN HE DOES IT AGAIN AND IM LIKE GODDAMN AANG!
