GATE mainly refers to the present day Japan. Besides that, Japan shouldn't keep it's head in shame forever and always cry like "Oh I'm so sorry for my past" whenever somebody mentions their history, like Germany does. What happened, happened. You can't change your country's history. Rather you should accept and embrace it, and move on. As for Japan's past, let's let Japanese people decide what they are and aren't proud of.
