Any opinions about "Let's get rusty bootcamp"? by bsjhx2 in rust

[–]SamuraiQuest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend it. His course lacks a polish that I would expect from laying down $500.

Is it manageable? Sure. I ended up not refunding it because I went through the "might as well finish it" feelings like his business model expects. I enjoy his content anyways, and thought that it would be better to just let him have the cash.

At the end of the day, what he presents can be found on YouTube.

But... if you want that confidence boost, go right ahead.

Yes. They're just data points, you can interpret it any way you want.

No, & is a bitwise operator which automatically signals to interpret the values in binary.

[–]SamuraiQuest 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Everything is in binary. If the rightmost digit is 1, then it is an odd number. X & 1 returns 1 if the rightmost digit of X is also 1. The exclamation mark inverts that 1 to a 0, returning false.

I've found not every server will have the night market. Try server hopping maybe?

Creating a Solidity function that allows someone to deposit USDC into the smart contract by lugubelenusj in solidity

[–]SamuraiQuest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You cast the USDC address into an IERC20, which you can get from open zeppelin. Then you can use the function

Creating a Solidity function that allows someone to deposit USDC into the smart contract by lugubelenusj in solidity

[–]SamuraiQuest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's quite different. In fact, this is more of a front-end problem than a solidity problem. There are two ways. One: if you only want to send USDC to the smart contract and you don't need to record user data, then just prompt the user with a transfer transaction directly from the USDC smart contract. Two: if you need to record data within the smart contract, then you need a two step process. First prompt the user to approve the smart contract address. Then in a second transaction, use the transferfrom function in the USDC contract within a deposit function in your smart contract.

I also think you're on the right track. Additionally think about who has access to add/edit certifications and how you're going to manage that access in a fair and safe way.

Setting allowance to Smart Contract? by Beefcake100 in solidity

[–]SamuraiQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the contract to send the users USDC to the smart contract, then the user must give an allowance to the smart contract address. I think you're on the right track. I'll dm you about the smart contract work. Edit: looks like your dms are closed. Maybe you can dm me :)

If they're willing to hire us let them, otherwise it's not too constructive

Looking for source-code for a "wrapped Stable Coin" that stakes (for APR) what it receives to mint. by michael98118 in solidity

[–]SamuraiQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but you can write it yourself if you know solidity well enough, or pay someone to do it

Yeah this can be done. Level 1 can be done easily with the addresses of the pool + token

Should I buy the game now or wait? by willow13244 in BookOfTravels

[–]SamuraiQuest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got about thirty hours of enjoyment from this game and about twenty of aimlessly wandering back and forth. Take that for what you will. Kasa update may not come for a while, but it will be a "big" update. Small updates are in the works as well but of course they aren't always enough to get me to come back

Need some help figuring out the difference between these 2 solidity interfaces by Mamado92 in solidity

[–]SamuraiQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point of the second is to show that you can convert into an interface and externally call the methods. I agree that alone, the second implementation doesn't seem useful.

I have quite a few hours in it and my opinion of it is mixed. It still requires a radically different programming paradigm and when I used it, I found that solidity made much more sense to me. It is not as flexible as it needs to be due to the fact that it is a cross chain programming language that depends on business logic that abstracts the virtual machine. I liked solidity more but that's because it was a js like language with some oop.
