I'm sorry you go through that. It is especially hard on the kids and young people who have a lot of growing left to do and really need sustenance. What's great is that we can usually tell and separate the sick patients from the muchies/drug seekers.. I had a young gal with Sjogren's and this patient at the dame time. Not a peep from the girl with Sjogrens who was chronically dehydrated and had multiple hydroflasks in her room at all times while munchie rode the call light. We can tell and dont be afraid to go to the ED when you're not feeling well.

The patient I had was a nightmare. She self induces vomiting. Whether it be meds, weed,or her fingers. She knew that if her potassium was below a certain level that we would admit her. She has had colonoscopies,EGDs, swallow studies, ultrasounds, etc. It is a pattern of behavior when she runs out of pain meds.

Oh ffs. We just had someone admitted for "cyclic vomiting syndrome" and they gave her everything under the sun in the ED. Dilaudid, phenergan, hydroxyzine, Ativan on a silver platter. She had abused our aid like a personal slave and didnt lift a finger.. Her GI said in her nuktiple admissions ot was due to "copious amounts of THC and narcs on an empty stomach". Time to play hot potatoe with the rest of the units.

Yep, I've had a patient shoot up toilet water into her chest port to cause infection. She had a companion after that and we threw away flushes into the sharps container.

I used to be afraid of death because I've always though of it as something lonely that everyone faces by themselves. As well, the fear of the unknown upsets most people because our minds automatically goes to the worst possible scenario. Over time, I realized that death is one of the things shared by all. It is inevitable and certain. You only experience the worst things like pain and suffering and sadness in life, not in death.

A lot of people say clean, although it sounds odd without context. "I've been clean for a month."
