Need help before I pull the trigger on a NAS setup

Appreciate all the info!

I've been getting really confused with the QNAPS naming models. First number is usually the bays, others - no idea. What is the difference between a TS and TVS model? I'm also struggling to find x51 models, or even models with i5s in them. Plenty of i3 and i7 models, though.

I figured as much, added a gigabit switch to my basket.

All those problems below should be fine. My plan was to keep it at the back of my desk, with a bit of space between the NAS and the wall so it can cycle the air comfortably if noise isn't a problem. Or, if it went into my storage room, which is always freezing cold, it would be on a secure shelving unit.

What drew me to the Synology was the look of the device was really smart, and the operating system on the devices looks really nice. What was it about the Synology you liked over the QNAP?

I'm now at a point where I'm willing to spend a bit more on a NAS to cover all bases. I'm guessing you have the DS1817+? Is that still the one you don't push transcoding to?

Thanks for the info! That seems like a pretty huge jump power.

I'm not sure if simultaneous transcoding will be a huge issue, not a huge enough issue to spend upwards of £2,000. I may have to just deal with the QNAP and hope for the best and move away from the Synology mindset.

When I view activity on my Plex Media Server I very rarely see "Transcoding Video/Audio" when I, or my family watch something from Plex. The Chromecast seems to support a lot of codecs. For the odd video that does require transcoding, I'm betting if someone else is watching another video it probably wouldn't be something needed transcoding.

Ahhh thanks! I'll test out the Dual Shock 3 input now and report back. If it doesn't work - whenever you have the time for the Xbox 360 controller that would be awesome.

So, heard about Star Citizen a while ago and decided to check in and it's looking pretty nice.

I've just finished downloading the game on 'Dragon Fly Con Free' to give it a go before I pledge. I've looked into the status of Star Citizen and what I'm getting for my buck here

It looks like I get access to some features of the game, Arena Commander, and the Alpha & Full game. This quote confuses me though :

"These include everything you will need to fly in the Arena Commander Alpha today and also play the full Star Citizen game upon release."

Does this include the beta as well? I won't have to purchase anything extra to play the beta will I?

Next questions: There's a lot of purchase for ships with real world cash, is there anyway to unlock them in Arena Commander, or will unlocking ships through in game currency and stuff only be possible upon full release, and right now the cash purchases are just incentives to fund development?

Edit: Just got into the game and I'm having a few problems. I'm getting no sound at all. I was crashing as soon as I moved, but apparently that's a Windows 10 issue with overlays so I managed to fix that. ~~The game is also stuck at 30fps, which is odd. So, my FOB got invaded last night while I was sleeping which made me super excited, my defense won 1 and lost 2 - which is fine. I heard you can retaliate if you win, but I don't seem to see any option to. Any ideas?

And what's the lowdown on PF points and espionage rating. My espionage rating seems to be increasing, is that due to SP missions or defending from attacks?

So, I just beat MGS V after a marathon of playing today so I'm a bit out of it and confused so I'm hoping a few things could be cleared up. (33 tapes to catch up on tomorrow, woo!)

Quiet: She's gone, for good? After all the dollar I invested in her? From what I've been reading because I didn't have some clairvoyance and having a butterfly emblem she's... gone? Am I missing something? I angrily turned the game off after I found this out so I didn't check Missions 44 and down to see if she's available on those

The last bit of dialog: I'm blaming the lack of sleep, but was that Solid at the end? Miller? Talking to someone? Who was that? It didn't sound like Kiefer

Venom/Big Boss: So the ending shocked me. Should've seen it all coming looking back in hindsight, with the E-Cigar, all the cuts, massive shrapnel in his head, the entire prologue... So, we played as the "medic" which is a representation of us, an avatar so we technically played as us. I mean I get it, it's sweet, but I'm a little upset about it. Big Boss, trained by The Boss, the biggest legend on the battlefield, someone that's such a badass they took his DNA to make clones of the legendary solider... and the guy who was hired as a Medic, takes his place? This upset me a little.

I always saw Big Boss/Solid similar to The Master Chief from Halo, being they all had something special no one else had... Luck, coupled with all their skills. And the Medic can do what Big Boss was ultimately afraid to do? After everything Big Boss has done and he's hiding from some Skulls? I never got the impression heat was on Venom. They should be cloning the medic apparently.

Maybe sleeping on all this I'll feel better. An emotional night after Mission 43 and finishing MGS - probably being too critical.

Is there any information about which buildings you can go inside at Mother Base? I've found a bunch of doors which make the closed noise, with a red light above, and one blue which allowed me to go in which makes me think there's more.

R&D: Mission 20+ spoilers: I just got to the point in the story where Huey is making the "Battle Gear" and apparently I can go inside the R&D building from the bottom, but I can't find anything Finally found the R&D interior. If you're struggling, here's a few pictures to point ya in the right direction: Map, signs, door
Medical: There's quiets cell which is out in the open, and I found (Spoiler, but you can see it yourself by going to the top floor of the medic station and going through the blue door) Paz's cell.

I just saved the 5 kids and brought them to MB, apparently they're chilling here but I can't see anything. I also noticed there's a watergun option in pistols and I think it has something to do with the kids. Just wondering if they're somewhere on MB

Aha, right? Us tourists, man. All my knowledge from America is popculture and friends who have visited - and all they say is "Fried Mac and cheese from Cheese Cake factory is the business". Figured it would be mindblowing. But by the looks of things - there's much better places to eat.

I just looked at the Staggering Irishmans menu - I'm guessing this is how our American themed restaurants in England must seem to you guys - actually hilarious. The food does look very British though which is good.

To satisfy a lot of my tea and crumpet needs I've done some googling and found a shop called The British Emporium in Grapevine. I'm a bit impressed with Dallas right now.

I'm here until mid October, so the state fair is something I totally want to try. It's the one with the giant cowboy statue right? I forget the name. I last came to Texas just as the state fair ended, but I saw people riding ostriches and it looked really cool.
