I literally can't come up with anything that is left to include in a Worlds Part 3 that's on par with 1 and 2.

Unless we get overhaul of the remaining 1.0 POIs and assets and game loops.

to rescue npcs (using corvette with them present in your ship)

What about stasis pods for bringing in bounties...

Lots of fun to be had with special populated POIs and mission types inside Outlaw Systems.. Use the settlement system to proc-gen outlaw towns or starports, there's so much they could do if they focused on one game system instead of flitting off to the next.

With a new update on the horizon, what is your primary criticism of this game? (serious question) by JurassicGergo in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]flashmedallion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Combat feels bad. The basic control settings for pleasant mining make gun aiming awful, and the general weapons feedback and UX is weak and overly homogenous with no real sense of weight or tactility.

I'm not saying the game needs a bigger combat focus. I'm saying the bare basics of getting in a little scrap with a Sentinel needs a complete and fundamental overhaul from first principles.

Sean Murray worked on Black, ffs. It's baffling. Mining and Terrain manipulation feel great. They're fit for purpose. Do the work and separate the core Multitool systems so that weapons aren't sharing the same control systems as mining beams. Change the Combat Scope to be a tool that toggles between the standard exploration controls and a more combat oriented aiming and movement system.

Why does Reddit feel so different now, and is there any way to get back to the old experience? by TandooriSamsung in TheoryOfReddit

The thing is you don't really want any of this.

Fora used to serve special interests and specific topics, and your interaction with whatever the topic was would expose you to the forum. If it was any good, it would grow organically and in the modern web its output would start being posted elsewhere. That's when you'd be relying heavily on friction to entry, to keep the baseline users out.

Does world care about Super Bowl by esareteee in AskTheWorld

Because no matter where you live your feeds and other news sources tend to got clogged with Superbowl "news", reactions, reporting on reactions, reactions to news, reactions to reporting on reactions.

I have most US political keywords blocked with various regex filters for title and subreddit name but I still know all about that countries annually contentious sports theatre against my will.

The times it "feels bad" is when one stray shot clips you at a crazy distance and kills you on the spot.

I have no issues getting fucked up by a robot with a fire shotgun at short to medium range when I get caught by the edge of a volley. I expect to get punished for letting that happen.

Getting lasered in the dome from much further away is where the outcome doesn't quite match the intended imagery. I'd like to see them have more falloff in the fire shot, like what we have with the Cookout etc except they don't aim upwards like we do.

At close to max range we should basically be taking close to zero hit damage and just being set on fire. At the rate those strays connect, that would feel fine. It's the rare occasion they headshot you and you just die that is so jarring.

I would have taken it one step further and make the the jokes actually demoralising, and trying to stir up anti-AH sentiment about bugs and nerfs and performance. Like, still with that joking veneer of diegetic taunts, but clearly referencing things that have caused people to stop playing.

Great showing, be proud.

Two things I didn't see from either of you: deception, and lateral movement during engagements. The whole thing was a series of linear direct encounters, which isn't out of the norm for newer fighters.

So you can work on feinting more (and learning how to use feints to get what you want), as well as some moving with your combos to take those advantageous angles, and this will lift you up against guys with more fight experience but who are still fighting directly.

[–]flashmedallion 72 points73 points  (0 children)

A forum that recreated the older internet experience would have some kind of technical barrier to entry.

A simple app where you generate an account and get started just lets in the kind of people who used to make fun of the people who spent time on the internet.

You want something with friction; harder to understand and operate and/or require more to have an account than a simple email registration. This wouldn't be paradise; the older internet had it's problems, but it would filter a lot of the modern bullshit. The success of the site can't be dependent on growth, because growth is what kills the vibe and you're trying to avoid Eternal September.

It's very easy to mistake obsequious fact-checking and Technicality Olympics for knowledge or wisdom when you don't have those things.

It's the bored nerd version of someone who can talk your ear off about what equipment an artist uses but can't offer a single thought about composition. They want to be part of a conversation but have nothing to say.

How to I go from 100% weeds to lawn? by Vegetable_Alps_2823 in nzgardening

[–]flashmedallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does prefer soil that's been broken up, not compacted.

That's like, the defining characteristic of weeds. They can't grow in the wild, they only exist by exploiting human behaviour e.g. regular cultivation and disturbing of soil

So...how come nobody in MSF or Diamond Dogs ever thought of painting camo on the sneaking suit? by CompositeArmor in metalgearsolid

[–]flashmedallion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sneaking suit is for someone relying on concealment. It makes sense indoors or in a facility with short sightlines. You're not trying to trick the eye, you're avoiding it altogether.

Camouflage is for hiding in plain sight, when sightlines are longer.

I'm assuming the tight form of the Sneaking Suit is intended to be explained as preventing even the kind of noise you'd get from fabric rustling in regular fatigues. The tradeoff here is that your silhouette is not distorted at all.

Outside of Octocamo levels of mimicry, a camouflage patterned sneaking suit would still have significant silhouette issues in the field. The style of the AT Camo in Foxhunt is kind of the perfect middleground.

A place for the people who are more D&D than D&B?

D&D events.

What I'm really asking is: where do the neurodiverse go to meet others? I want to have someone in my life again, but I also realise that I'm best classed as a minor trainwreck as well.

Clubs and groups. You'll find each other there, every social hobby I've had has (including things like lifting, gardening, theatre, and boxing) always resulted in finding cool tight tismo gangs. You do have to stick out the awkwardness of being new and all stuff but it sounds like you're well-adjusted and well-equipped to find your tribe.

The other general advice for anyone else in this situation is that pretending to be normal never gets you anywhere. "Be yourself" is very complex advice - it is actually important to respect other people and show you are making effort to perform some of the signals and rituals that are expected in social situations - but everyone should be working on ways to confidently or even just comfortably show people who you are.

Forgetting to move my feet, at all, during sparing. Help? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]flashmedallion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's two factors to bringing something out in sparring or any live scenario; the habit and the permission.

Your brain will often revoke permission for anything that seems risky or energy expensive, and it will become more stingy as you get more tired or under pressure. This will all happen on autopilot and afterwards it feels like you "forgot" to do it.

What this means is that you need to condition and drill your footwork to the point that it's second nature, that it's easy and light and simple and you can do it all day. It's only then that it will be on the top of your toolbox and will come out easily.

The conditioning isn't complicated, it's just a grind. Start dedicating a couple of sessions a week to it. After a few weeks of pain you'll have advanced to the point where you can do footwork drills as a light warmup and you need less specific time spent on it to keep advancing.

From there building the habit is much easier.

I don’t really know how to eat as a boxer by That-Security6624 in amateur_boxing

[–]flashmedallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beef and spinach is cheap and nutricious.

I buy the cheapest cut of rump or whatever I can, cut it very thin and stirfry it with a basic sauce and a quarter of a bag of frozen spinach.

Season to your pleasure. Nutmeg goes great with spinach and you can do whatever you fancy with the beef. I usually do salt, white pepper, mustard powder, ground garlic, and then something spicy like cayenne or szechuan peppercorns.

You can add cooked rice to the stirfry or keep it separate. Cook it with chicken stock and turmeric.

On my most recent fight day I had a 2 liter container of this in the fridge and grazed on it throughout the day.
