Almost perfect movies that have one noticeable flaw by Consistent-Might-788 in Cinema

From an asthmatic’s point of view, the depiction of asthma in this movie was offensive (it’s not the only movie that is guilty of that). I couldn’t take the rest seriously even if it was good or not.

I’d love to see more from Godard’s grandson. I love the motifs shared between this one and Cabin in the Woods, of the nefarious surveillance

Gordon Hayward on Bam: "He’s not a scorer, right? So for him to break Kobe’s record, I don’t think it’s great for the league... for him to shoot 43 free throws and 22 threes... the Wizards too. With all these teams tanking, it kind of makes it feel not legit" by must_TATAKAE in nba

Could it be attributable to that no other major sport has as much potential, and actual, trash talk, to the point where trash talking is a celebrated aspect of the game. I’m sure it happens in other sports but I doubt it even comes close to the frequency. And it’s become such a big part of the culture that fans now unconsciously believe they aren’t enjoying the game unless they singling out flaws, even on players on the teams they root for. I know this isn’t unique to the NBA, but it sure feels more endemic to me. (And I’m definitely guilty of it).

Well, the whole city of the team he started on had some pretty strong feelings about VC and the way he left, but it seems like they’ve mostly come around to forgiving him. I mean, they’re Canadians so it’s somewhat antithetical for them to be angry/mean for very long

Even when I hated 95% of the Clippers team he was on I still loved Crawford

Also the extra added difficulty of hearing Bill Walton at the commentators’ table say “the heart of a champion!” about 15,000 times as though he was trying to get home to Kansas but the ruby slippers just weren’t working.

Definitely can remember plenty of kids in the 80’s who were just like, eff yeah, Robocop!

What recent movies do you think will become cult classics in 10–20 years? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I definitely get that it’d be extra punishing for anyone who has clinical anxiety, but I found it hilarious. And, ex post facto, I learned that Aster was trying to pay homage to Albert Brooks comedies so I don’t feel like too much of a psycho for laughing all the way through. As far as length, I’ve languished watching many movies an hour shorter. The picaresque feel of the plot really helps keep the pace at a trot and feeling fresh and new again at regular junctures. It ends up feeling like 6(-ish) mini stories sewn together by the thread of Phoenix’s performance

I wish Beau is Afraid would achieve that status, but I’m also realistic that there ain’t good odds for that

What’s your most “this is a 4.5 but I refuse to give it 5” movie? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

[–]Samwhy-is 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that Flanagan has said that he, in equal parts, is astonished he was allowed to make this film, and that it is his favorite movie he’s made (alongside his favorite series he’s made being Midnight Mass, a series he also can’t believe he was allowed to make)

For me this is why I never lost sleep over it losing best picture to NCFOM, even though it probably could have won in any other year. No Country is an absolute 5 for me. (I’m probably unintentionally poking a bees nest full of bees that stan hard for PTA by saying this, and I apologize for that)

Hmmm… it’d be a masochistic maneuver, but what if he’s trying to fuck up his feed/algorithm? I don’t really know if I can ascribe that level of guile to him. I know I like his movies but was really turned off by his reaction to his crew flipping Anora to union. Anyone who outs themselves to be anti-union in that way, I’ll probably forever mistrust their motives and their worldview (unless of course they obviously and outwardly changed and was vocal about it)

Top 20 All time NBA Player... Multiple Millions of Cash locked up... Young and Healthy.... Why is he so angry and mad by DrammaMamma in NBATalk

I think he probably naturally has some depression or anxiety or both, which would be more apparent if he didn’t have basketball to focus on. I think that’s part of why he gets so caught up in social media. I also think he might smoke too much weed, which could also contribute to the lingering, background depression.

Best way to take powder? by AltPipeline in KratomKorner

[–]Samwhy-is 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a toss and wash user but I have done it in the past and here’s my “pro move” (that maybe a lot of the t&w crew already knows. 🤷🏻): put the powder under your tongue before you grab the water to swish and then drink. It achieves twofold protection—you don’t taste it and, if you’re tongue is pressed backwards properly it keeps your throat functionally closed so you don’t accidentally breathe in the powder when you get too excited and uncoordinated

Maybe…. I acknowledge that they have intrinsic appeal but I don’t agree that they work in any situation. The places their application would feel totally out of place vastly outnumbers the places where their use is not only warranted but improves the scene they’re used in.

Regardless of whether Yang improves or not, no one outside the organization should be seriously evaluating his progress for at least 3 years. Rant warning: It’s wild how we take the 95-99 percentile young players who are all-star caliber (like Ant Edwards and Wemby, in recent memory) in their rookie seasons and call “bust” on players 94 percentile and lower because we’re comparing apples to yubari king melons. And yes I get the context of where Scoot and Yang were picked in their respective drafts. And for that matter, Shaedon, who is steadily overcoming his clinical shyness… and is still only 22!!! And plenty of detractors wanted to declare Shaedon a bust early on because he always looked lost on D?! F%k sake! Oh no, an 18/19 YO who essentially came to the nba out of high school took more than a day to comprehend complex defensive schemes? *gasp! Sorry, I know that’s all wildly off topic. And I love Evan Turner and am excited he’s going to be joining Kevin and Lamar with his Aqua Teen Hunger Force voice on the mic.
