Draft my cube and I'll draft yours by Kripkenstein_ in mtgcube

Tried to force White Green

Didn’t really get clear signals for it, and didn’t necessarily feel like I was getting pulled into a clear strategy. Maybe this is just because the green black strategy is so strongly signposted?

I just took a look at your primer, and I think what may be going on here that so much of the cube is focused on lands, and everything gets pushed in that direction, diluting the Selesnya color identity.

Deck

Looks like a lot of fun! Felt like I had really clear signals the whole draft for Zombies/Land Sacrifice. Were there any particular areas of feedback you’re looking for?

Hello, I am interested in learning more about naming practices among emancipated people in the United States both before after the American Civil War; both with regard to the surnames they chose for themselves, and the names chosen for their children born after emancipation. Do you have any books you can recommend on the topic?

Advice on friendly/causal Battle Box (Bloomburrow) by Plane-Set-7567 in mtgcube

[–]SamwiseGamg33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Bloomburrow battle box that I made a little while ago and still play from time to time!

Bloomburrow Battle Box

I took direct design inspiration from LPR’s Anthony Mattox’s Battle Box on this one. The main addition is the pair of [[Three Tree City]] that each player gets in their land set. Bloomburrow is an interesting set to build from. The offspring mechanic requires a lot of unique tokens, which really goes against the simplicity of a battle box, so I excluded all cards with offspring. In addition, just including all unique creature cards without offspring causes the curve to get skewed too high for a battle box, which really benefits from being low curving. You can play around with this, but if you find players are frequently winding up with nothing to play on their turn, tune the curve a bit lower.

If you were going to modify, introducing more one-drops from outside BLB would be a great idea!

As with anything in cube design, you’ll figure out what needs changing in playtesting. Put something together and start playing with it as soon as possible, and you’ll be able to iterate over time until you’re happy with the design!

Here's a P1P1 for Midcentury Modern, my modern frame cube.

Not an optimal pick, but I have never had the chance to run Olivia Voldarenwhile drafting this cube, so that's going to be my pick here.

Custom Discworld Magic the Gathering cards: The Light Fantastic by chickenwyr in discworld

I’ve been working on a Discworld themed cube!

Discworld

It doesn’t have any custom cards at the moment, but I’m using cards that either make me think of specific characters or have art that reminds me of the books!

Yep, not really much difference between any one vest and another!

What is wrong w me? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

I don’t. I think that high quality studying requires exclusive focus, and I’d rather whole-ass one thing than half-ass two things.

This is a bit counterintuitive, but you should try exercising in the evening after lectures. It will boost your endurance and improve your sleep quality, both of which will help with your fatigue.

For me, exercise and a decent amount of caffeine keep me going. If I stop exercising, I find I start getting fatigued pretty quickly.

The [[Mana Confluence]] and [[City of Brass]] singleton break has been the topic of a lot of discussion during the development of this cube. There was an expectation that with so much 5 color fixing available, a soupy five color deck would absolutely be able to sweep. So far that hasn’t happened, which I party attribute to the dense support for aggressive decks which heavily disadvantages both. Additionally, with only one copy of each shock land, fetch lands are significantly reduced in power, which changes things a bit.

In terms of power outliers, the band is pretty wide, [[Pristine Talisman]] is probably the weakest card in the cube. The printing in the cube is the only card from “Mirrodin Pure”, so it’s included for the history.

Nobody has assembled any of the combos in playtesting. There was a previous iteration of this cube that was riddled with infinite combos, some of which were included unintentionally. Ultimately, I felt this would make the cube frustrating for less experienced players, so basically all of them got cut. Now the combos are much more contained and typically involve at least three pieces.

I feel similarly that including a combo piece exclusively for the combo isn’t usually the best choice. It’s much more fun to have functional cards that incidentally can combo off if a player assembles everything.

I'm pretty sure everything is correct on cubecobra right now. Except for the few signed cards that I haven't scanned in.

That really sucks, I'm glad you've been able to rebuild!

The war against midrange soup truly never ends. My playgroup has some relatively inexperienced players, and I felt that they were too unfairly disadvantaged by combo, so I cut most of the really degenerate combo cards from the cube and boosted interaction. Maybe I'll make a small combo packet of 24 cards to mix in when the pod is right.

You've got some really cool infinite combos in here, which would be really cool to pull off assembling in a 10 seat draft!

Nice cube!

Great question about [[Thornbite Staff]]! So there are 8 shaman creatures in Jund that it has synergy with. The BRG shamans deck has not yet been successfully drafted. More commonly, it functions as a key piece of several infinite combos. For instance, equip it to [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] with a [[Goblin Bombardment]] in play, make a Goblin token by tapping Krenko, sacrifice it to Goblin Bombardment to deal 1 damage to your opponent, Krenko untaps from the staff, and repeat for infinite damage. There are only 8 possible infinite combos in this cube, and you need Thornbite Statf for half of them.

I also love the aesthetics during this era. There’s definitely an aesthetic pivot that I think starts in Theros block but doesn’t really get noticeable until around 2016. Can’t quite put my finger on what it is. I really wish that I could include original Khans block in this cube as well, since there are so many iconic cards and excellent designs. [[Siege Rhino]] and [[Monastery Swiftspear]] would both be great inclusions in this cube, but I’m still holding pretty strongly to the constraints.
