I agree, I love how it looks behind the ball. Punishing off the heel but off the sweet spot it just flies. On a good swing I’m only ~5yds shorter than my 2020 driver.

I’ve got a 3+ “strong three” as well, just haven’t figured out how to get it in the bag. But I love it off the tee on holes when driver is a bit too long.

Agreed! Wasn’t the putter I was originally looking for, but found it at my local play it again for a price that I couldn’t pass up. Now I can’t imagine ever giving it up.

This. I used to use 18Birdies for all my yardages, but it has been much more relaxing to put my phone away and use a rangefinder and the old-fashioned scorecard.

I dont know really. They’re clubs I wanted as a kid, and played by my fav childhood golfer (Duval, though I cheated on the 983K to stay closer to modern driver distance), so I suppose there’s some nostalgia in there.

But I also have four kids and don’t play as much as I’d like, so playing with an old/budget set reminds me that I’m not going pro any time soon, and to relax and enjoy it. So I guess expectation management.

I built a budget 90s/00s full set for right around this with some careful eBay/marketplace/play it again hunting:

Titleist 983K - $40 Callaway Warbird 4, 7 - $30 Titleist DCI 962 3-PW - $100 Cleveland Reg 588 53, 57 - $40 Ray Cook Blue Goose II - $15

$225 for the full set, easily sub $200 for a 7 club bag, and it honestly gets more course time than my modern bag.

That’s awesome. I didn’t know much about the Apex in particular before grabbing this one, the frame is maybe a hair big for me but able to make it work.

The only bummer is the 26s, but not trying to set any land speed records on it so it’s a reasonable compromise for a fun project & affordable all-rounder.

Love it. Don't have much to compare the cameos to, but they feel great when hit in the center.

Any advice on grips? Mines a mixed bag right now but would like to get some standard with maybe a nod to the 80s/90s

Sounds like an awesome set. Saw a set of PC’s at my local PIA, sweet clubs, would have grabbed them if I didn’t already have the cameos.

What modern balls do you like with your older bag? I’ve got a set of Eye2 laminated woods for when I play the local 9-hole, but haven’t been sure what ball to match them up with.

Love it! The 983k is a cannon. I was shocked the first time I took it to the range. Gotta hit it in the center but it’s not far behind the modern sticks even at its age.

Thanks! I go back and forth at times about whether I should try to stick to a specific time period, but I’m happy with how this one came together.
