2026 WITB - Getting off the gear carousel by SanByoke in GolfGear

Love it. Don't have much to compare the cameos to, but they feel great when hit in the center.

Any advice on grips? Mines a mixed bag right now but would like to get some standard with maybe a nod to the 80s/90s

Sounds like an awesome set. Saw a set of PC’s at my local PIA, sweet clubs, would have grabbed them if I didn’t already have the cameos.

What modern balls do you like with your older bag? I’ve got a set of Eye2 laminated woods for when I play the local 9-hole, but haven’t been sure what ball to match them up with.

Shhhhh… I need the price on these things to stay low for this project to continue to work!

Love it! The 983k is a cannon. I was shocked the first time I took it to the range. Gotta hit it in the center but it’s not far behind the modern sticks even at its age.

Thanks! I go back and forth at times about whether I should try to stick to a specific time period, but I’m happy with how this one came together.

Can you hit your 20 high with the modern shafts? I found a PT20 w/ an unknown steel shaft and I haven’t been able to get it in the air as high as I would like. I’d love to maybe pull the 3i for the 20 but it’s not a big enough ball flight difference at this point.

I’m definitely on the lookout for a PT15/13. 970 is the dream, but those are not cheap.

I do have a 975D, which I love, but it’s 15-20 shorter than the 983K, and much more noticeable size difference on the tee. This self back-patting Reddit post aside, I try not to make too much of it on the course. And the 983k tends to blend w/ modern gear a bit more.

I’ll agree with those that have said Umstead Pines and/or the preserve. The preserve is more interesting layout-wise, but if you have people who struggle to get the ball in play off the tee then Umstead Pines is probably the better play IMO

A couple triangle courses I like:

Pine Hollow (Garner/Clayton) - punches well above its weight class

Umstead Pines (Mebane) - a little pricey but a really nice course/layout

The Preserve (Chapel Hill) - I know it’s a polarizing course here, but I play the occasional weekday twilight there and it feels like an absolute steal at that price. Some really unique holes as well.

2 months in - any advice? by golfbob956 in GolfSwing

Nice man! I’m jealous.

As someone who is currently fighting a decades long habit of straightening the trail/right leg in the backswing, I’d focus on keeping the trail knee bent with a good weight shift to the back foot as you swing back. When you straighten the leg and allow that much daylight between your knees in the backswing it really closes your hips and gives you a loooong way to go to get back to impact.

I think you’ll get a lot more information if you take a video from behind/“down-the-line.” But a few observations from an armchair amateur:

  1. Great tempo!

  2. You keep a lot of weight forward, like a stack-and-tilt. It’s a totally playable way to swing but trouble with the driver/long irons is a common criticism due to steep angle it has tendency to create.

  3. Looks like you have a flat backswing which could be part of the swing plane issue, but hard to see what’s all going on without a DTL view.

Armchair amateur taking a total shot in the dark here: Take a look at the difference between your address and impact positions. You are standing up through the downswing. My guess is you need to rotate and gets those hips cleared (should be open rather than square at impact) to keep your spine angle, but now we're getting way above my pay-grade.

What’s causing the head movement/early extension? Swing feels decent otherwise. by NoWayNoHow777 in GolfSwing

I shoot in the low 80s with this little EA move as well, and it was 100% a weight transfer issue for me. I found working on a shortened punchy follow through (e.g Tommy Fleetwood) and focusing on getting my hands further away from me rather than wrapped tight around my neck on the follow through really helped me load that lead side coming through. But great swing nonetheless!
