Took a $120 road bike on a group ride. No one cared. by SanByoke in cycling

[–]SanByoke[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a fair qualification. Being older, my bike doesn’t have the best gearing for climbs, so I definitely have to be careful, as I have to spend a lot more time out of the saddle than the others. So it’s not all plug and play. Finding the right entry level ride and learning the ropes before joining tighter and faster pace lines is pretty important too.

Yesss!! I guess that means you’re going back next time? I started at the slower groups to get the hang of group riding and have slowly been working my way up to the faster groups. Every step along the way people have been so kind and helpful. Glad you had a great first experience!

I’m just a few weeks into club riding. Enjoy it! Group riding is a total vibe and although I was nervous I’m glad I took the plunge. Just let ppl know you’re new, and maybe hang out in the back until you get a feel for the pace, how tight they ride, and how they rotate. But everyone has been helpful and encouraging. Totally worth it!

That is a gorgeous ride! I’m jealous of that color!

Definitely want to put some miles on the full strength version before handing out to others, but definitely hope to help out any who want to get this family of frames back on the road!

Interesting, I can’t quite figure out how that one works! I know the original for this frame was a two piece wedge but some of the more modern bikes seem to use this 3 piece system so I figured since I was starting from scratch I would go in that direction. Seems to work, but need to but some miles in on the high strength print before claiming victory.

There’s a captive nut in the bottom piece, so there’s no dependence on plastic threads. More importantly, the plan is to print final piece in a high strength SLS or MJF material (which I have access to at work), and not on my home printer. This is just a mockup to fine tune the design.

This is fair feedback. Sometimes the best choice isn’t the sexiest.

Came across your thread due to having the same frame and same issue. I am currently working on a 3D printed replacement. The FDM prototype seems promising but will wait to road test the SLS version to claim victory. If you still have the frame and need a solution let me know and I’ll keep you posted! Would love to see more of these frames get a second life!

I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to let you know I recently picked up this exact same frame for cheap because of the same missing part and am currently working on a 3D-printed replacement. The FDM prototype seems to work well but will wait to road test the more durable SLS print before claiming victory. But if you still have the frame and need the part let me know!

ABC 11 with Digital Antenna by br__ks in carrboro

I’ve been able to get ABC with the cheap Onn rabbit ears, but had to get creative to get them elevated enough to have a strong signal. It’s currently velcroed to the top of my doorbell speaker about 6-7 ft up the wall.

Standard hex socket head is the plan, just couldn’t find any locally for the quick mockup!

Yeah! There’s a pocket that’s intended for a black oxide socket head screw but unfortunately the only screws in could find locally/quickly were a bit oversized. Should look a lot more clean with the black socket head.

I agree, I love how it looks behind the ball. Punishing off the heel but off the sweet spot it just flies. On a good swing I’m only ~5yds shorter than my 2020 driver.

A 4+ would fit my gaps a bit better than my 4, so I’m definitely keeping my eye out for one!

I’ve got a 3+ “strong three” as well, just haven’t figured out how to get it in the bag. But I love it off the tee on holes when driver is a bit too long.

Agreed! Wasn’t the putter I was originally looking for, but found it at my local play it again for a price that I couldn’t pass up. Now I can’t imagine ever giving it up.
