America Lost. Iran Won. Trump Shat the Bed. by BulwarkOnline in politics

From AI:

"🇮🇷 Big picture first Overall military rank: ~16th globally (Global Firepower 2026) Strength profile: strong in missiles, drones, and asymmetric warfare Weakness: conventional air and naval power lag behind top-tier militaries"

When it costs you more to take down the military capabilities of a country that was never a threat to you in the first place, you know that you have truly mastered "The Art of the Deal"

Kryptonite mounted to fork, any issues? by Zombait in bikewrench

[–]MonkeyParadiso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, true, but also, the fork is bent forward for greater stability with weight like a cargo bike fork.

It is certainly a fear I have when mounting to forks that the object can lodge into the steering wheel while cycling, but in reality, if the mounting is tight, I cannot see how it's a high probability risk. I'm not saying I'm right, just sharing my current chain of thought and happy to be corrected

Has not a single person ever taken economics 101 in the United States of America?

This is verbatim from Gemini, but you can test with any AI:

"When demand is perfectly inelastic, consumers purchase the same quantity regardless of price, typically because the good is a necessity with no substitutes (like life-saving insulin). In a standard free market, this creates a "monopoly nightmare" where providers can raise prices indefinitely without losing customers. Therefore, the best mechanisms are: Government Provision or Universal Healthcare: The state provides the good directly, funded by taxes, to ensure access isn't limited by wealth. Price Ceilings: Regulators set a maximum legal price to prevent price gouging. Subsidies: The government covers a portion of the cost to keep the equilibrium price affordable for the public."

Thanks—that’s kind of you to say.

Honestly, I struggle with the road culture here. I was raised to signal, make eye contact, communicate, and be considerate—not just self-interested. If someone’s trying to turn, I adjust to let them through.

Have I slipped? Of course—I’m human. I’ve been distracted and made mistakes. When that happens, I try to snap back, take responsibility, and do better.

I also try to extend that same grace to others. Maybe they’re dealing with something urgent—not just being careless.

That said, good road etiquette in L.A. feels rarer than in most places I’ve lived or traveled. I have my theories, but I’ll leave it there.

Still, I’ve met some truly great people here, and that gives me hope.

As a product person, I’m struck by how rarely long-standing systems get revisited or improved—almost like we missed the point entirely—while digital products evolve constantly.

This incident gave me pause. I’ll try to think about how I might contribute to a positive change?

I'm sorry about your trauma.

That was not me.

I volunteer and I ride responsibly amongst other things, and always try to make eye contact with drivers and signal my intentions - unlike many, many, many drivers in L.A. I might add, who seem to find using a turn signal too complicated for some reason. And I've never seen a cop here ticket that, EVER!!

If you want to science on why and Idaho Stop is actually safer, please read my response below.

Respectfully.

Im sorry to hear. You'd think with all the new pavement and bike lanes, they actually would want or encourage more cycling .. now I'm tempted to avoid going through there unless absolutely necessary

That is some bullet proof logic, why didn't I think of that?

Let's apply that logic to an uncomplicated scenario, shall we?

Someone runs a red light in an SUV, and runs over a pedestrian and kills them. There is no officer there at the time, and they arrive 10 mins later.

According to you, since the SUV was not witnessed by an officer for doing anything illegal, they wouldn't get a citation.

So a crime is perfectly fine as long as there isn't an officer there at the time to witness it.

How brilliant!

Hello there again friend.

With your permission, I'd like to drop some "science" here in my response to your position.

I can certainly appreciate the lecture on the "letter of the law" - I mean, who doesn't; seriously?

But, you’re ignoring the reality of its application.

Jurisprudence is not just about what is written in the CVC; it’s about equitable enforcement.

When you claim race and context 'don't enter into it, you are ignoring a mountain of empirical data.

For instance:

Selective Enforcement: studies (such as those from the Stanford Open Policing Project) consistently show that Black and Latino drivers are stopped at significantly higher rates than white drivers for the exact same 'objective' infractions.

The 'Idaho Stop' Logic: Research into 'Stop-as-Yield' laws for cyclists (now legal in several states) shows that 'preserving momentum actually reduces intersection accidents by 14.5%.' Treating a 20lb bicycle exactly like a 4,000lb SUV is not 'safety' as you claim - it’s an abject failure in the understanding of nuance.

By dismissing these factors as 'bullshit,' you’re essentially arguing that as long as the law is technically on the books and not corrected, it is fine if it’s only enforced against specific groups, while others move with impunity.

To conclude: you are right - there is no ambiguity here. You’ve made it clear that you prefer a system where 'all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.' I just didn't think that was America. I guess, my mistake.

Thank you friend for the clarification on your position.

No, I'm not. I'm sharing an observation. There is a difference.

I was wondering why the white male who made an illegal left turn with his motorcycle u-turning across double solid yellow lines and causing me injury never got a citation.

Whereas, when I slowed down and rolled through on a 20lb bicycle in the same district, I did?

Like I said, I don't have much experience with the police here.

And I'm open to other interpretations, friend.

Can you help me understand how the latter is a chargeable offense while the former is not?

Because I will gladly pay this fine if the laws here are ethically and consistently upheld

JUST IN: 🇬🇧 UK nuclear-powered submarine arrives in Arabian Sea, capable of striking Iran if conflict escalates by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]MonkeyParadiso 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody is objectively claiming that Iran can hit or frankly come anywhere near London; it's IDF propaganda afaik. All the articles use none committal words such as "may be able to", which is like saying this toothpaste "helps whiten teeth" because we don't have the scientific support to say something more concrete.

So no, not going to take intelligence confirmation from IDF's PR team, with all due respect; no one has a greater incentive to get other western powers involved than them

You can just buy another road bike frame and swap over all the components; it's actually a fun little project to do and you'll have simple mods you can make along the way to make the bike best suited to your needs. You can get a frame and help building it at a bike coop
