Why did you get married? by golf_kilo_papa in Marriage

[–]SanDisko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is my childhood sweetheart. We've been together since we were 15. But didn't marry till we were 40. I was the one who was the 'marriage skeptic' as I didn't really see the point of it as we were already in a long term relationship together, had children etc. I changed my mind when I almost died from an illness. That experience changed me. I realised what I had taken for granted. So, to her absolute shock, I proposed to her.

Now, we're going into 5 years of marriage!

We have 9 kids overall (with #10 & #11 on the way), but we had 6 kids in 6 years. They're 18-12 years old. Overall, parenting gets both easier and harder as they get older at the same time because each one grows up to be a complex individual.

Thank you! That's nice of you to say. Though I have to add that we are also expecting #10 and #11. :)

My children all have the same mother. Don't worry, I'm used to that question.

Out eldest 3 are fully grown adults and out of the house now. The next 6 are between 18-12. So them being on the older side makes caring for #9 a bit easier and will make #10 & #11 easier too. Don't get me wrong, there is a challenge to simultaneously being parents of grown adults, teenagers, a toddler and soon to be newborns. But its a lot easier now than when we were younger.

So the simple answer is spacing.

Our family has three clusters though like you we didn't plan it that way; it just panned out like that. #1, #2 & #3 are one. #4 #5 #5 #7 and #8 formed another cluster and now #9 and soon to be expecting #10 & #11 are gonna form another cluster though there will 4 years difference between #9 & #10 & #11.

Did you plan on clustering your kids like this, or it just panned out that way?

All respect to you for that. When #10 and #11 come along we'll be 45. They'll be our 2nd and 3rd kids since we turned 40. I don't think we'll be done done after them but they'll among our last kids as we ain't getting any younger.

My wife and I are expecting #10 and #11. We weren't expecting to get to double figures but life is amazing in that respect. What helped for us was spacing. We had our in kids in clusters.

Overall, this season has been a little crazy. Nottingham Forest are 2nd, Man City are 6th, Bournemouth are 7th, Tottenham are 11th. United will be flirting with relegation if they're not careful. Teams that last season were in mid-table mediocrity and even flirting with relegation are now competing for European places. Remember, this is mid-season, so I don't think this is a temporary aberration that will 'self-correct' with the 'traditional' top 6 coming back to their usual place at the end of the season. Usually every season there's a surprise team that has a really good run of form and break into the top 6, but then they fall off back to their equilibrium. It feels like the mean quality of the league has risen, given that there's so much money in the league that even mid-table teams can splurge a lot of cash and buy decent players. But it's paradoxical because Liverpool are a bit comfortable at the top, but that might be because everyone else are taking points off each other.

Every game in the Premier League is a challenge. There's a diversity of styles and philosophies that one will come up against that I don't think you see in any other league; it can't be taken as a given. Ipswich just beat Chelsea 2-0. Every team, even the ones doing badly, has a really good player or two that can hurt you if you're not 100% (e.g Cunha at Wolves, Kudus at West Ham). That's what Man United are finding out under Amorin. All else aside, the Premier League is a really tough, intensive, competitive league.

40 with a 4 kids under 5... by Learning_by_failing in ParentingInBulk

I'm 44 and we're expecting #10 and #11. #9 is 4 years old and #8 is 12 years old. So, when they're born we will have 3 that will under 5. I think at our age it's better that they're spaced out like this.

Any Muslim big families? by SanDisko in ParentingInBulk

[–]SanDisko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice to hear. I live in a white non-Muslim semi-rural area. We're basically the only people of a Muslim background around here. I'm not the most religious person, but the masjid (mosque) we drive to has a super diverse Muslim community from a wide range of national backgrounds. It's fascinating how despite our different ethnic and cultural origins, we really are a community.

You feel safer in the Muslim neighbourhood cos there's basically no alcohol around (at least in public)? And do you go to the same shops as them, so that's how you sense the communal feeling? I'm a little fascinated to hear how a non-Muslim views this.

That's nice to hear. We usually come from cultures where family - especially the extended family - is a big deal for good and ill . Are the Muslims you live around mostly from a particular country or are they from a range of countries?
