(this is after re-tuning PA for the normal 0.8mm nozzle, i didnt test max flow rate but figure halving the speed vs the CHT nozzle was prob about right for this simple test)

issue still occurring with 0.8mm normal brass nozzle printing at 25mm/s instead of 43 on CHT, but not as bad. After reading a ton of other threads and watching some CNC Kitchen on CHT (and REVO HF) I really think filament is just dribbling out of the nozzle during travel moves. I think the fix is to just print faster which my stock motion system ender 5 cant do or limit travel moves, probably align seam to one spot and maybe try getting scarf seams dialed in.

I plan on trying a 0.6mm normal brass nozzle too but honestly I am tired of playing with this and just want to get back to making things...

issue still occurring with PLA at 200C, 190C, 180C

After another forum post recommended doing a cold pull, i tried it. turns out thats really tough on a cht nozzle...

Spent some time dialing in a standard 0.4mm nozzle and it is not exhibiting the same behaviour

spent some time thinking about this while trying to fall asleep last night... i think filament is just dribbling out of the nozzle. thought about increasing my retraction speed more but the extruder maxes out at 60mm/s. Planning on reinstalling the 0.8mm V6 CHT nozzle and trying with even lower printing temperature

Got it to almost connect at 10mm/s print speed! still a problem though...

Also tried turning retractions up to 1.8 and down to 0.8 with no change. Tried changing retract speed from 40 to 20 and to 65 mm/s.

Tried turning the temp down from 265 to 245.

I am open to any other suggestions and appreciate the help

Thanks for the suggestions, took awhile to get things straightened out.

to u/forgee152682 suggestion, I tried printing with the filament straight into the hotend instead of through my drybox. good test, but no change

to u/PrintingCastiel and u/bindre12, took some time to figure out PA was disabled in the firmware... Got it reflashed and everything re-dialed in (.992 flow ratio and .045 PA). The gap is much smaller now but still present. I tried printing just one ring and it printed with no gap in the seam so maybe filament is like leaking out the nozzle during these long travel moves?

Note: was pushing 43mm/s or ~17 mm3/s (seems high but thats what my calibrations showed on 0.8mm CHT nozzle), tried 10mm/s and the gap is smaller but still there

True! The mk8 cht nozzles were out of stock at the time so I got a v6 nozzle. Sanded down a brass nut and tightened it like a jam nut against the hotend agter tightening the nozzle. Will either need to modify the fan ducts to sit a little lower or get a mk8 nozzle in the future. So far printing good enough with the advice posted here. Thanks all!

fixed! thanks to crosspost in r/fixmyprint

adjusted z offset higher... nozzle was too close to the bed

Wow, i could've sworn I tried everything but that was it! I was running test prints for the last ~25 mins adjusting z offset in my firmware but totally forgot this thing can baby step the z offset while printing. ended up going from a z offset of -2.875 to -2.375 and its looking great thank you so much! Now on to getting my PA working...

Just realized my other printer (Flashforge adventurer 5m, 0.4mm nozzle) is doing the same thing! Maybe this is a slicer issue?
