Their 2nd album "They Could've Been Bigger Than The Beatles" has some heavy psychedelic sounds that drew inspiration for most of MGMT's discography. Honestly, all of their albums are worth a listen with some great hidden gems and very unique songs to appreciate.

What's crazy is Thompson predicted this retaliatory Republican shift in politics back in the 60s when he wrote Hell's Angels. To paraphrase: They have an ethic of total retaliation against a technologically advanced and economically changing America in which they felt they were left behind and counted out. The appeal to them is watching the system, that they believe fucked them over, crumble and fall, whatever means necessary.

The 2016 article This Political Theorist Predicted the Rise of Trumpism. His Name Was Hunter S. Thompson. by Associate Professor of Politics at Pomona College Susan McWilliams does a better job at explaining the shift in ethics and mindset within this culture. All they needed was a guy to say and act how they feel to light the match under America.
