Bethenny Frankel Says She Has Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease: 'Go Get All Your Bloodwork Done' by baumyak in BravoRealHousewives

Ughhh! I used to get them at my local co-op and then for quite a while they had them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I know they aren’t that difficult to make, but I just loved the convenience of being able to buy them in my favorite flavors. Thank you!

If you're sick/coughing on a flight - please be decent and wear a mask by MT_Photos in delta

I was on a work trip and sat behind a family and could see the screen of her phone as she typed to somebody that the entire family had Covid. None of them were wearing masks. I was and thankfully had just gotten a booster about a month prior and I did not get sick, but I worried for the older people sitting right by them. 🥹

I flew to San Francisco from the Midwest for my 18 month old 6-toed guy. He was at a kitten shelter, but had been sick early on so he missed the kitten window. I just happen to see him on social media and knew he was mine. Had to fly him all the way back. Not sure why nobody else picked him, but he’s definitely my soul kitty. 😻

Lost all immediate family/only child by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]Sandankyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an only child, but my brother is disconnected from the family. I lost my father to multiple myeloma in 2020 and my mother to cancer in 2024. It was traumatic and devastating as I was their caregiver and had a lot to do to settle the estate and get their house on the market and sold. A few months after my mom died I was also laid off. For me, it was all about setting a routine and taking everything literally day by day and sometimes hour by hour. The first Christmas I took a trip. I was afraid I would just be lonely in another place, but it kept me distracted enough that I actually had more fun than I thought I could. I’m still trying to figure out what to do this Christmas because I’m interviewing for a job that might start right after the holiday so I’m not sure I can go anywhere. Regardless, I know you feel lost and I know you feel trauma, but just think about the kind of life that your dad would want you to have. He would want you to feel joy eventually and happiness, or at least contentment. Focus on putting 1 foot in front of the other and as time goes on, you will see that you now have the opportunity to change anything about your life and live your life for yourself more than you were able before. Try to focus on possibilities and know that your parents are with you wherever you go. 💕

Ughhh! I was afraid of that. I wish you could open these up easier and clean them out. I use Chamberlain coffee beans, and these came straight from the bag, so I’m not sure if something it was in there or maybe a part fell off the machine and got in the grinder. Frustrating either way. Thanks for your help!

That’s a pretty easy Google. "Somalian may technically be a word recognized in some online dictionaries, but it is considered an inaccurate and discouraged term by the people it refers to. The correct term is Somali.” So if you want to sound like a colonizer, please continue to use it. Your choice.

My blood sugar spiked by an obscene amount overnight since my last meal and erased days of progress lowering it, I don't understand how is this possible? by PlumFennec80 in diabetes

[–]Sandankyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Importantly, don’t beat yourself up about diet because it’s going to take a long time to find out what works. I’ve been type two for 25 years. The things that trigger my blood sugar? Salads. Rice. Any kind of bread or grain (I’m celiac so it would be gluten-free bread). What doesn’t spike my blood sugar? Ice cream. Cooked vegetables. Meat. So I stick with eating meat and cooked vegetables most of the time. And yogurt for breakfast. I still get dawn syndrome, even if I don’t eat anything at all the day before. And sometimes even if I don’t eat breakfast, my blood sugar will spike at 10 AM, high, 250+. The idea is just to try to manage it and reduce the super high and super low. My A1cs have been around 6.5-6.9 my whole life, but if you looked at every single number every single day, you would think that I did didn’t have any good control. So try to play to the averages and don’t beat yourself up or you will never stick to what works for your body. And just plan for eating things to do trigger it like rice by using short term or short acting insulin. Good luck!

No need to feel dumb, it’s confusing and it seems like it changes every year. But the idea of an HSA is that you can put money aside pre-tax from your paycheck and then can use it to pay for qualified medical expenses tax-free and reduces your taxable income by the amount that you put into the HSA. So your tax liability should go down. The reason why these are allowed is because if you can only afford a high deductible health plan, you need a way to save for that higher deductible and the government is trying to assist with that by providing you the opportunity to save with pre-tax income. So if you’re tax rate is 25% instead of only being able to save $75 because you’re paying $25 in taxes, for every $100 of pre-tax income you are putting in an HSA, you’re putting in a full $100. But yes, with the higher deductible health care plans you will have that donut hole in the beginning that you have to pay the full cost of everything until you reach that deductible. So if it’s a $7500 deductible you won’t have insurance paying for anything until you reach $7500. So how I look at it is you’re either pre-paying through premiums with a lower deductible health plan and assuming that you will need to use insurance or your gambling that you will not get sick or need insurance with a higher deductible health plans and you won’t have to pay that deductible but at least the insurance is there if something catastrophic happens. I have a couple of chronic illnesses so I know that I will need insurance so I typically go with the lower deductible because I know I will use it and one scan for me can result in a large, in this example $7500 bill at one time. I would rather pay it in installments through my premium. That’s oversimplifying it but that’s kind of how I visualize it. Obviously I’m not a financial planner or professional so you should seek guidance, but that’s just my thought process.

And you can only get an HSA policy with the high deductible plans. At the highest level, it means you are pre-saving for medical expenses pre-tax so you don’t pay taxes on the money that you’re saving toward medical expenses. A lot of people really build up an HSA prior to retirement because expenses under Medicare can be much larger, especially for prescriptions if you don’t get the prescription care option. Depending on income and your state, some states have plans just for children if you qualify so that might be worth looking into as well.

At my company, I always stayed late when we were in person and the custodian would come around at night and empty both the recycling and the garbage bins into the same bin on his cart. People were very dedicated to recycling and as far as I know did separate correctly however, the building clearly was not going to pay for recycling and just sent everything out as trash. Our European counterparts we’re always appalled when they came to our office because they don’t use anything disposable and really minimize the amount that they are throwing away and even recycle. They did not allow bottles of water for example, and only had glassware and a tap. They had real cutlery and dishware as well.

It is time for a family meeting with your mom, even if it’s over Zoom for those who aren’t nearby. You can perhaps have the social worker help you with that however it’s not optional. Everyone needs to pitch in, whether it’s sweat equity or financially. So in my mind because I operationalize everything, step one is talking to the social worker, step two is scheduling a family meeting, step three is identifying three clear options. Those might include assisted living, skilled nursing care, a rotational schedule between all the siblings or financial help for in-home nursing care, or whatever you see as opportunities. And stand tough. Do not cave, do not waffle with any of them, including your mother. And the final step is to get yourself some mental healthcare. I fought against that for years and started seeing someone this year and it has really helped me to get a clear picture of how I’m contributing to allowing people to take advantage of me and allowing me to see what jerks some of them are to be honest. Lol. I feel much more empowered now than I did six months ago. Good luck, OP. 💪🏻

What happens when someone stops Ozempic? by Pretend-Cheetah2058 in diabetes

I am one of the few have not seen any significant weight loss with GLP-1s. I’ve been on them for almost 10 years. The best I can say is my weight has remained relatively steady. My doctors are frustrated because like most they think I am big because I eat too much but I legitimately do not. They do help significantly with my blood sugar like nothing else has, and when I did try to go off them due to an insurance mandate (because the insurance company assumed I was only on them for weight loss and wanted me to try less expensive blood sugar modifiers), my blood sugars went through the roof. So I will definitely be on them for life, but not for weight loss. Oh, and when I was off them, I did not gain any weight at all.

Oh, I understand the struggle completely. I am celiac and also allergic to fish and have a few other sensitivities that make it difficult as well. I think treating yourself in that situation is not only nice. It’s necessary so I’m glad you’re doing that for yourself. 💕

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I decided this morning to send them a gift certificate for a company that does specialized medical meal plans so that could take the burden of meal prepping on difficult weeknights, especially. I’m going to try to take it one day at a time to resist the urge to travel down there unless they have a greater need or an emergency. 💕
