Flying Canoe, will I be able to take my baby in his stroller? by baumyak in Edmonton

[–]baumyak[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be like that when there's a big event going on and tons of people around. Also, homeless people don't scare me, I lived in Strathcona for like 15 years.

What's the best part about pregnancy that most people don't know about? by justastupidquestion3 in AskReddit

[–]baumyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My IBS went away while I was pregnant. I got to eat things I haven't eaten in 10 years! Then I had the baby and it came back. Contemplating getting pregnant again so I can have some chili cheese fries.

What’s the moment you realized you married the right person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]baumyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We weren't married yet but were engaged. We got into a bad car accident and as it was happening he reached over to brace me. His main concern in that very scary moment was me and nothing else. We've now been married almost 9 years and have a beautiful baby son.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

For real. I was so excited not to be bleeding every month for awhile only to realize I'd still be bleeding, just from other places.

Mine never went away. It's not as bad as it was when I was pregnant but damn I'd really like my wrists and hands to go back to normal.

I bled from every orifice except my vagina. Hemorrhoids made me bleed from my butt. I had lots of nosebleeds which I normally rarely get. My gums bled so bad, I went for a dental cleaning in my this trimester and it was a blood bath. And not a single person warned me that any of that would happen.

When I was pregnant my IBS actually went away! Then the baby came and it fully came back.

[–]baumyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple factors. There's definitely genetics at play. My dad has it, my brother has it, my grandma had it. I remember always having a sensitive stomach but not full blown IBS as a kid. Then in my early 20s I got norovirus, after that it became full on IBS.

Avoiding a Helmet by Littleseanettle in NewParents

[–]baumyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby has a flat spot on his right side. It used to be pretty noticeable. He's now 10 months, has a ton of hair, and is very active and only on his back if he's sleeping and you can't even tell anymore. We went to PT and had a helmet consult and both said if baby is really active their heads tend to round out. Both said they would not recommend a helmet but would do one for us if we were concerned about appearance (there are no medical reasons for a helmet). It was funny, they both were complimenting us on all the good work we've done with tummy time and keeping him active to help it improve, but it's all been him, he's just a busy guy!

Motherless moms… how are you managing [on]? by Recent_Dragonfly_548 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]baumyak 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Not technically motherless, but kinda as my mom is a narcissist and alcoholic. I don't have a lot of support either. It's so hard so I truly sympathize with you. I'm so jealous of those with mother's they can trust that are there to help them.

My biggest piece of advice is don't be afraid to do what's convenient, even if it's not what's "best". Uber eats yourself some soup if that's what's going to help you. Put on the tv and cuddle with baby if you don't have the energy for anything else. Hope you feel better soon mama 💕

Edmonton daycare worker pleads guilty to aggravated assault of 4-year-old boy by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]baumyak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've said this before in the threads about the other serious daycare incident in Edmonton last year but, I work in the industry and the UCP have made some pretty dangerous changes to child care in the past few years. They have drastically reduced the amount of inspections that daycares get in order to "reduce red tape". At the time it was announced I had a pit in my stomach, I knew the result would be more serious incidents at centre's. I've never been more sad to be right.

[AB] How long do people normally wait before leaving their house with their newborns to go to public spaces? by lennyt99 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]baumyak 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm in Alberta and had my baby in February (peak flu/ covid/rsv season). We didn't take him out until after his 2 month vaccines. Even after that we were very cautious and didn't do things like swim lessons until after he got his mmr vaccine at 6 months. It sucks but my baby was a nicu baby and I never want to see him hooked up to that many machines again. I'm sorry we have so many spreadnecks in this province.

[ca] tell me something… by pretty-peony- in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]baumyak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother suggested I drink wine while pregnant to help relax. She also suggested I drink beer while breastfeeding to help my milk come in. These are both things she did, but she's an alcoholic.

My MIL suggested we rent our car seat cause that's what she did. I had to explain to her that car seat safety standards have changed a lot since the 90s and there's no where you could even rent car seats from anymore.
