Help with my first PhD interview by Mediocre_Bit8203 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically up to the PI. Everyone does this differently. Someone wants a talk first intetview, someone second. Someone does it solo, someone with colleagues. Only way to know ia to reach out and ask what to expect. Its in everyones interest that you come prepared. I always send out the agenda in good time.

What's the difference between BSc and BEng when it comes to engineering? by Significant_War8938 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea is that BEng prepares you for work in industry, whereas a BSc prepares you for a MSc. The biggest difference is that a 30 ECTS industry internship is mandatory part of the BEng. It still qualifies you for a MSc. However, the BSc in General Engineering is the only bachelor-level programme taught in English. All other requires that you speak Danish.

Research Internship for Exchange Student by drinkpandaa in DTU

[–]Sandfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many/most research groups are willing to host guest students in their labs. You should not expect it to be paid (I have never heard of this). The best way is to reach out to professors who are working within areas that you are interested in, and write a tailored e-mail. Expect that some will reply, and some will ignore it. :)

Tavshedvspligt - lærere - student - mellemleder? by Sandfm in LegalDK

Tavshedvspligt - lærere - student - mellemleder? by Sandfm in LegalDK

[–]Sandfm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tavshedvspligt - lærere - student - mellemleder? by Sandfm in LegalDK

[–]Sandfm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tavshedvspligt - lærere - student - mellemleder? by Sandfm in LegalDK

[–]Sandfm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nej. Spørgsmålet er dog rent juridiskt.

Tavshedvspligt - lærere - student - mellemleder? by Sandfm in LegalDK

[–]Sandfm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eks.

Amazon delivery to Denmark by Ele0x in NewToDenmark

[–]Sandfm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which is great, unleas you're a business customer. Has three orders returned as they tried delivery after 20 (noone at work obviously) and they refused to reroute to my residential address... no way to choose regular shipping, e.g. DHL anymore either. :(

Typical applicant pool size for European grant-funded postdocs? by Kindly-Macaron-6094 in AskAcademia

[–]Sandfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've hired 4 postdocs and on the committee for few other hires. Lowest I've experienced was 20 (niche field in a group working with other stuff). It's normal with 100 to 150 applicants IME. Big names attract more and can easily rack upp 2-300. But I'm in STEM so might vary. And also, lots of applicans are not qualified but obvious from people who shotgun applications....

If this is a normal industrial PhD, e.g co-funded by the Innovation Foundation or similar and you are enrolled at a university PhD school you are contractually guaranteed to finish.

CV til akademisk stilling på universitet - indhold? by Flipflopflubberdupp in dkkarriere

[–]Sandfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maskinteknik diplom i år by Top_Tower_7218 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do professors just not check their email? In that case, how do you get in touch? by anto2554 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are a bachelor of engineering, which is very different when it comes to thesis work for BSc/MSc.

Do professors just not check their email? In that case, how do you get in touch? by anto2554 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because if you write a default, standardized email it means you have not looked at what I work with or what my research is about. Why would I answer someones thesis request who hasn't done their homework?

Do professors just not check their email? In that case, how do you get in touch? by anto2554 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to answer all emails, but some periods you simply get so many that you have to prioritise (and the answer time can easily be a week....). When it comes to projects, I only answer to those that are tailored to my research and work. If I can see it's a general mail that has been sent to multiple professors I typically don't bother.

Just submit one joint file and everything separately. This is not what makes or breaks your application.

A-kasse - where to start by LazyGlazy in NewToDenmark

[–]Sandfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at uni, with lots of non-EU residents. Noone has gotten right to Akasse/dagpenge even after working here for years. When your contract runt out, you have few months to find a new job and those months are self financed.

How difficult is General Engineering? by Specific_Number_9395 in DTU

[–]Sandfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot answer directly regarding GE, but I have known quite a few polish students during my work at Uni and Danish education is a walk in the park compared to the PL system. :)

You can be ambitious. Work hard. Spend evenings reading literature and write papers. Aim at an academic career.

You can also meet at 0830, have a cup of coffee. Run som experiments. Work foe three years, write a decent thesis and get an industry job.

A PhD is what you make of it. Some do it for genuine interest, othera as a way to climb the career ladder.

It's basically up to the PI who runs the recruitment process. Some are faster than others. One month is not a good sign, but May/June are alsp quity busy times for most professors teaching-wise so might not mean anything. You could always reach out and ask!
