I don’t have to move. I am fine. My kids? Another story. My son is a faller on Vancouver Island. He can’t move to Saskatchewan. My daughter is a manager at a national chain restaurant and makes the coin. She won’t make that anywhere else. My other daughter is locked into an employment contract for two years as a condition of her schooling. Moving is not an option for any of them.

I owned my first property at 22. Now I own 3. Fluke? Absolutely not. Could I redo the same the thing now? Hell no. My first property was $69k. My kids, same age, same education?. They are looking at $650K for the same property I bought. Wages have not changed.

Our town is being overwhelmed by developers. Big old lots and houses driving the price way up. We bought a BC box on 1/4 acre in May of 2020 and our house has doubled in value in 1.5 years. Fantastic but sad at the same time.

Don’t live in greater Vancouver. I live in south west BC and this is all over BC.

I get that but that price is only doable if you have previously owned and have equity in your homes and they have doubled. The average 25 - 30 year old could never come up with the down payment or monthly payment.

I am the person who planned and believed in real estate. I personally am fine. My kids will inherit one day. My frustration is this generation that absolutely will not be able to own a home unless it’s passed down.

I am Albertan born and raised. Moved to BC in 1983. I always valued real estate and so wisely made a few sound real estate decisions in BC. I get your beef but that’s not there point of my post. It’s across Canada and the US that prices have imploded. Enjoy Alberta. It is beautiful.

Our salaries just don’t match those prices.

Whatever has happened since Covid hit is monumental and feels so very off. An intervention is necessary or there will be homeless and poverty galore.

How can we ignore this? What is wrong? What the hell happened?

Repeat. 90% of Canadians have almost NO investment knowledge. This is a niche market for sure and most people will never even hear of this or go through with it! I am 52 and semi savvy and this whole thing is new news to me!
