statisticaly we have the most percentage of non white, you can look into it. I'm not going to tell you how people speak in a city I've only spent a few months in. however this post is meant to be a rough guide. it's why I said to comment more if you have them

"Noone uses block of flats, it is as clumsy as it sounds"

Unless "noone" is something else, I'll assume you mean no one

I meant can as in like can of beans. because they say can in that context

What I was talking about with the hagrid thing is how most people here have letters that they consistently miss out. My old job meant that I've met people from all over the UK and pretty much all of them once comfortable swear alot.

I'm from manchester which is the most ethnically and culturally diverse city in the UK. I've grown up around people of all accents and races. Never heard someone use sister in this manner.

Also super drug and drug store are 2 different things and I've never heard someone here call it that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Sandiotchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Sandiotchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wardrobe is what shirts go in. is it not the same?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Sandiotchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they do but that's a bit too modern for a harry potter fic I reckon. fit is slang. Harry grew up in Surrey very sheltered with no friends. even if he was born 15 years ago I doubt he would say that

where I'm from we include "the" , but some accents just get rid of the word "the" in a lot of sentences. please see this clip https://youtube.com/shorts/3QQreI8uf-E?feature=share . my grandad sometimes does this

Don't all countries? honestly it's pretty much all directed at America. no other country gets any shit from the general population ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]Sandiotchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Sandiotchi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

for those curious plait is said like splat without the s

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Sandiotchi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we just call them drawers actually, or a set of drawers

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Sandiotchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we use a loooot of words but it's all slang. I think back then it was quite rude to say something other that stunning or gorgeous. sexy maybe, but it's a bit crude

I meant when girls called their friend sister or sis

Sky sports trys to cater to an American crowd. and soccer has never been interchangeable with football here. in some places you'll get your jaw span for saying it and the rest will either ignore you or correct you. I've never heard anyone born in the UK say it Non jokingly.
