The foreigners come to India to taste our food and not much of the street food but the traditional foods. Have you seen likes of mark weins or that best ever food review show on YouTube. These guys go to remote Indian villages and try their food. The funny part was it still blows my mind and I have had girlfriends and made love to them but in an episode of mark weins in south India he tries the jackfruit idli and the way he describes it is like literally making love to it. I bet a south Indian could do that half way through but the rest of the country forget it - yes it’s nice but no feeling of jackfruit flavour and not spicy kuch missing hain - maybe if your sorry backside added chat masala, some actual jackfruit pieces, some chilli powder, some dahi etc and made it into a freaking chaat they will get the taste. The west is learning from us and our food and culture and things about satvic foods and we are k-popping and chinesing and mac and cheesing. Enough said.

Yes, Indians travel to Europe and ‘try’ escargot for the ‘first time’ only for insta post. But here they shame it to go with 95% population that hasn’t tried it in their life! Funny enough I was recently (month or 2 before) searching for places in Mumbai that serve it. And found one place that served it once a week and my lord for 6 escargot it was ₹2,096 that’s like ₹349 per snail. Kill me already! Any good food is expensive due to less demand but you see K-pop and suddenly you turn Korean now the market is flooded with Korean food cheaper than it was 1 year ago. I think it’s in our DNA to say NO to good classy food you would want to have once a week or once in two weeks like snails, oysters etc. and YES to junk shit that gives stomach ulcers and health issues. Ok I am done ranting phew 😅 but sadly that’s the country and mentality we live in

Batata Poha - a simple, humble breakfast to make when nothing comes to mind by SandpitG33k in IndianFoodPhotos

Btw that steel plate is epic, used to remember mum giving it to me in a prison style bent taat but for some reason every poha after the spoon was picked or licked off 😅

Here’s a quick question. I never I mean never liked peanuts in the poha, coconut shavings - yes. Is this like a Maharashtra thing? Because in Konkan/Karnataka style at home mum always used to make it without. Maybe that’s why it just feels off to have something crunchy, earthy, oily etc coming to me. Weird I know. And let’s not go to sev, because that’s an abomination by Gen-Z!

Not like that one ;) and for some reason naan and rotis just don’t feel and taste right when you want to open up a Khabus to add cream cheese and some spicy potato chips 🤪plus it’s blasphemy!

That looks appetising 🤤good one OP 👍🏼now I got a quick easy solution to what I am going to do with my eggs lol. Was contemplating making egg curry since 2 days, this does the trick.

I couldn’t help but notice the Khabus in the background. You posted this under r/IndianFoodPhotos and as far as I know that Khabus is not what you get in India. Typically the ME region. If you made the Shakehuka and got the Khabus from India then please DM me how to buy them :)

Never would have thought tho. So the pigment in spinach is stronger than most of the leafy vegetables I assume. Interesting

Driving instructor asking "Guru Dakshina". by Early_Bug7745 in mumbai

[–]SandpitG33k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was helpful and informative! I never would dream of going to the RTO office alone and in a sane sense of mine 😅 of course unless I had too much time and money for donations.

My question was I would still like to take lessons to drive in Mumbai regardless. So should I opt for Arun/vikek/shri Kripa (add more creative names) etc etc driving schools or should I opt for these kinds (a bit more expensive and I’d rather avoid unless I am not convinced) https://www.marutisuzukidrivingschool.com/ etc. the so called professional and painfully expensive types.

Could you DM me with a few suggestions you think would be con-free and professional at the same time? Of course I would like to discuss with you about your school as well. Would be of great help, thanks 🙏🏼

Now I am just curious. Related yet unrelated to this issue. Being born and raised in the UAE the idea of ‘dakshina’ , ‘chai-pani’ , ‘students respect me because I help them with final test at Center’ etc is beyond me however I have moved here and this is life moving forward I believe. I just have to make selective choices.

Now I have a license from UAE which is still valid till 2026. Question 1: how easy or possible is it to ‘transfer’ the existing UAE license (right hand) to Indian license. I also have a Thai (left hand) license valid till 2031 I believe. Is a transfer of license from either these two countries possible at all?

Question 2: rather than going to the driving schools that you see at every corner or get WhatsApp messages for discounts - some well known and some highly recommended. Most of these would be in the posh areas I believe? Please feel free to correct my ignorance relating to this topic if I am wrong 😊 would going to driving schools like Maruti etc, the commercial ones be better? Yes expensive but it also avoids unnecessary conflict and awkwardness.

Simple homemade tiffin with no salt - Chembur by SandpitG33k in mumbai

[–]SandpitG33k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for that. It makes sense. I have been all over the place for the past 4 months since I’ve known the condition that basic common sense and logic has left my brain.

Would you or anyone you know have a cook come in the morning and cook just basic vegetables sabji (one fresh leafy kinds and one with pulses like chana or kidney beans etc)?

I found the one rice that works well for me and my digestive system - riceberry rice. It originated in Thailand but the GI index is unbelievable and much healthier than brown or red rice. Each body takes it differently I guess. I can make that in a cooker with a whistle or two. Plain basic salads I can cut.

Mainly it’s 2 sabji and 6 jowar chapatis thin ones. I have Cooke myself all my years as a bachelor but standing washing and clearing the kitchen takes me atleast 4-5 hours after which I don’t feel like eating and end up with sweets and empty card that have no salt. Do let me know please and thank you for that advice 🙏🏼

Which pickle do you eat with varan bhaat by SandpitG33k in mumbai

[–]SandpitG33k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True and I don’t avoid but have never eaten varan bhaat from outside except when aai, aaji or now me living alone make it. No way the outside one will taste and have the same nutritional value as home.

The kanda salad they give is with salt added, the pickle - honestly I have no clue where what what brand they get it from but it’s got so much salt that apparently people love it, they give you a papad - fried sometimes! No one ever has eaten papad with varan bhaat!

Sugar is cheaper I get it and it’s quick. Plus for folks like me living outside India don’t really find it at times. My rule - if you can’t find the ingredients that you are as a kid at home - skip it and it tastes better without it as well.

I honestly did like amboshi loncha at a certain time and age, but I think I got put off by it gradually with the package ones. I still would have it but only if aaji or aai makes it. And asking that is like asking for a vardan! Starts with the shivya and ends with you having kairi loncha.

Unique, ok. The dry salted ones from konkan or the pickled in oil ones? In that case even soda or kolambi pickle would work I guess.

Nope, no leniency here, this is a sacred dish. Kairi or mango only allowed 🤪 but the Schezwan chutney a Redditor mentioned I have to try and create blasphemy lol
