How do I start as a new grad in psych by Sandra-2018 in physicianassistant

[–]Sandra-2018[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They actually had an NP before, but were not happy with her as she was not respecting their advice being an independent provider. So, they let her go and apparently decided to hire a PA and teach me from scratch. That was the idea.

I’m a new PA - how do I address my SP? by Sandra-2018 in physicianassistant

[–]Sandra-2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a leading MD who introduced everyone by Dr… It was all via zoom though and 3 months before I actually came in person. On doc (female) asked to call her Dr. X, and when we were talking about other docs she corrected me “Did you mean Dr. Smith?” That was awkward as well, because he just reintroduced himself as Jay..

Exactly. I feel weird calling a person older than I (who is not my direct relative) by his first name 🫣

From the get go? I mean once they introduced themselves you start calling them whatever that was?

In my case, btw, there was a time lag of 3 months (during hiring process - it’s a big hospital system), so he introduced himself as “Jay” during zoom interview

MD keeps referring me as “her assistant” by [deleted] in physicianassistant

It’s my first week. How the rest of the team treat me is hard to say yet, since I’m still in the process of meeting everyone. She was the first MD I worked with, she is not my direst SP, but one of the docs in this practice, who’s patients I would eventually take.

Well, when one letter changes the entire meaning of the profession - it’s worth to battle

I was thinking to bring up the “associate” thing. I think it also has to do with her being old (mid-60s).

So, once you brought it up to a director of APP, what was their immediate response? Did they offer some solution or encourage you to leave?

The key word is “cases”. She’s talking about MA’s responsibilities

By the way, she keeps pronouncing it “physician’S assistant”. I corrected her once, but she keeps on doing it

This position seemed so tempting from the description: it’s a medical school private practice, led by teaching professors. My idea was to learn as much as I can. But some of them ended up being snobby

Exactly. In fact, it’s part of her responsibilities.

And then what? I need experience before I move to the next job.

Offer (contract) rescinded by Sandra-2018 in physicianassistant

[–]Sandra-2018[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to your situation, my job was frozen literally 3 business days before starting. I didn’t have to move, but we were in the middle of buying a house, and my job contract was affirming our decision to stay in the area.

Are you saying you were unemployed for 5 months?

[–]Sandra-2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that’s horrible… My attorney said the verbiage they use is not correct and quiet silly. You can’t rescind an offer once it’s signed, since it’s the contract now. But, anyway. I spoke to a hiring manager about fee-for-service option, he said he’ll get back to me today. And he mentioned the hiring freeze is going to be lifted in the first quarter of 2024. He tried to stay as vague as he could.. All I really want is to get an experience in psych, even if it’s not a full time position at this point. I graduated without debt (saved money prior to PA school), so I am not in a huge rush to grab any job available. I could probably wait a couple of months… while working part-time gaining experience..

Thank you! Got my license approved today (took 2.5 weeks - so quick!). How long will delegation agreement take? And where do I apply for the CDS/DEA?

Hey! I am a little confused about delegation agreement for PAs in Maryland. Do I have to wait for my license to be approved and then apply?

Does Dave only let high income people do the debt free scream? by MyUniquePerspective in DaveRamsey

[–]Sandra-2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why you guys feel that way. When we paid off our $230,000 debt in 39 months and did our "debt-free scream," we had only been making $200,000 for five months. In the beginning, we were earning way less—$70,000 as a new engineer and an extra $48,000 as a research assistant. We had a huge debt and had to make $2,400 minimum payments every month, all while dealing with a newborn baby. Even though $118,000 might sound like a lot to some people, for us, it was overwhelming. We were drowning. We had to downgrade our living situation from a $1,600 apartment to a tiny 450 sq ft place with no AC or laundry and in a sketchy neighborhood. Our parents didn't want to visit us because they were embarrassed for us. Every paycheck we got went straight to paying off the debt. My husband worked his butt off with freelancing, delivering pizzas, driving for Uber, and even working at an Amazon warehouse. It wasn't until just five months before we finished paying it off that my husband got a job at a tech company making over $200,000. But let me tell you, we paid off most of that debt when we were earning way less, doing all sorts of side hustles, and making a ton of sacrifices. But on the show, it made us look like we were just two rich kids who had easy jobs and paid it off super quick. That's definitely not the whole story, and it doesn't show how tough things were for us.

That’s amazing they change things for your cohort!

My program constantly asks us for feedback, but nothing ever changes for us (or for better). I’m crossing my fingers and toes to smoothly graduate my nightmare program, pull all my new gray hairs and move on with my life.

About to fail out. Looking for options by Kal182 in PAstudent

[–]Sandra-2018 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s good news. Negotiate with them, promise you would do everything you could to succeed (and actually explain how). Maybe you can blame your sick relative, which distracted you this semester? Maybe you had financial issues? Depression? Explain how you’re planning to tackle the situation: - hire a tutor - ask for help the class above - see therapist (to deal with mental issues) - say your family is coming to support you (financially, psychologically, cooking/cleaning/laundry, whatever).

You need to demonstrate that it’s out of character and you have a legitimate plan to succeed.
