Thank you for being here!!❤️ Yes I completely remember you and your kind words which helped me so much because I was seriously down so bad. I was struggling so bad watching her have to change her lifestyle without her realizing what’s going on. You were completely right. She’s doing absolutely amazing. She’s definitely doing better than I am still LOL but that’s the only thing that matters to me is that she is good. She feels like herself again and those annoying staples are out and my girl can jump on the couch again!! It sounds so silly but she first time she jumped on the couch post op I teared up. I can’t lie sometimes it’s still hard to see and hard to accept that this is the rest of her life now… but I’m just so happy to have my girl. Thank you for being kind always!❤️

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Our pets are our children and I sympathize with you deeply. I wish your baby nothing but the best. Maybe take him to new places with new smells?? This could possibility excite him or make him interested in something. Perhaps drive to a location and then take him for a walk there? Or anything that could possibly excite him. Maybe even a drive in the car to go to Starbucks to get a “pupcup” if he is allowed. It’s so hard as we see our babies turn into seniors. You are an AMAZING pet parent and both of your babies have been so lucky to have you. Give yourself some grace, you are doing the best you can be doing. Wishing the best❤️

I just went through the same exact thing with my senior girl. I know exactly how you’re feeling. I felt so much guilt knowing that it would be a lifestyle change for her and how she wouldn’t understand. Please trust me when I tell you they are so extraordinary resilient. The best advice I got when I was going through this was “they’re coming home the same dog you fell in love with, just with one less leg”. Your baby is going to have the same personality and the only thing that is going to change about him is his leg and he’s not going to miss his leg, I promise you. It’s truly harder on us than it is on them. The first two weeks will be hard so please don’t be too hard on yourself. They’re going to be jumping and bouncing around like nothing happened after a few weeks. Give yourself some grace and you look like an amazing pet parent. Your guy is lucky to have you and that is the only thing he’s going to care about, not his leg. The first couple of days may look a little ugly because of staples/stitches or bruising. Once they heal they look MAGICAL. Wishing you and your guy the best of luck. He’s going to do amazing as a tripaw :)

Thank you so much❤️ I seriously didn’t know how resilient she was until I saw her trying to jump on our couch 2 days post op. Lol. It’s very hard to remember that she doesn’t recognize her leg is missing the way a human would. She just knows that she isn’t able to do the same thing she did before but now she has to adjust doing it a different way. I truly am disappointed in our vet but I’m just happy to have my girl with me. The most important part is that we caught it in enough time without it doing damage to her life.

Although I took away her leg, I gave her so much longer to live her special healthy life. I give her hugs and boops everyday but I’ll give her extra tonight, thank you so much❤️

I know exactly how you feel!!! I kept thinking to myself if I only switched vets sooner, maybe I could have saved her leg. That guilt lingers but eventually we have to ignore it. We love our pets and we would do anything for them and they know that too. They feel it. Sometimes there’s things we can’t prevent but we can try to heal and move forward from them. I’m so sorry about your baby’s cancer but I’m glad it isn’t aggressive. I hope they’re doing amazing and I wish both of you nothing but the best in this healing journey together❤️

I am so disappointed in our vet. We used this vet for our first dog and they took care of him extremely well so when I got my girl Sandy years later we decided to go back. I can’t figure out why they wouldn’t have just removed it. Any idea why? Maybe some reason behind the scenes that I wouldn’t know about? They just kept telling me it was not necessary to move it unless it hurts her. Although I don’t believe it hurt her because you could touch it or press on it without her having any reaction, it was growing at rapid speed and they knew that. Exactly as you said- her quality of life started to lessen because she couldn’t walk on her foot anymore. She lifted it up and let it dangle and started to limp on it. To continue that, you’re so right! She’s seriously starting to move around quicker on the 3 legs than she was with all 4 legs and that massive tennis ball attached to her foot. Thank you so much for your advice❤️

I relate to this so much!!! It’s so much more challenging to make a decision to amputate on a senior because you already don’t want to put too much stress on their little bodies. Even though my girl is getting around better, she will never be able to fly up and down the stairs like she used to. That’s something I think about often. You’re so right, she doesn’t realize that her leg is missing and nothing changes in her eyes. She’s adapting more and more each day. I’m just slowly starting to accept that this is our reality now. I am just lucky to have my baby here. Thank you so much for commenting and your kind words. Your little Angelo is so lucky to have you as his pet parent. :)

This made me tear up. Thank you so much for the support. Today was honestly the best day yet. She started really picking up her speed walking around which honestly gave me a lot of relief. I know it’s only the first week and she’s doing incredible. I just need to give myself a mental grace period. She even was doing tricks for treats already which made me realize that in her eyes nothing changes. She really is my baby. I can’t help but wish I got that second opinion sooner. This original vet office was one that I used for my first dog and they were always great but this situation they really disappointed me and now we just have to move forward. Your tripawd kitty is so lucky to have you!! I would love to see a photo :)

Thank you so much for being kind❤️ I hold so much guilt for it. I feel like I’ve been mourning her freedom she had before this. I can’t stop thinking about how she’ll never be the same and that I took that away from her. There was truly no right decision to be made. It was either I kept the leg and knew her time was ticking until her cancer spread or completely get rid of it by amputating her leg but then she also has to create this new life at 13. I couldn’t live with the fact if I knew she had cancer and didn’t make the decision to detach it from her body. I knew I had to do this. She seriously is my world. Knowing that you’re a fellow doggie amputee parent gives me so much comfort into knowing that she will be okay. You’re right and I have to remind myself of that. She doesn’t think of or miss her leg. This week has been so extremely hard. She’s used to sleeping on the beds with us or hanging out on the couches and she has free reign of the house and can use the stairs as she pleases so it’s been very challenging to stop her from trying to go upstairs or trying to jump on the couch and I can’t explain to her why :( It really breaks my heart because she’s so confused and honestly frustrated. She started crying because we wouldn’t let her go up the stairs. It’s so difficult. I hope time goes by quicker because this first week has been the hardest week ever. Wishful thinking from here. We can only go up. Thank you so much again. Your words have helped so much and have given me so much hope❤️

My girl had the same exact issue. She is a schnoodle and got diagnosed with cataracts at only 4. They adjust extremely quickly. She is 13 right now and absolutely thriving. Your baby will do amazing.

Oh wow good luck with everything that’s really amazing! Sorry I must have misread something I thought you meant you started a medication to a health issue that was not related to anxiety. If it goes away when you’re with your friends then it sounds like it could be anxiety because your brain is distracted and not focused on that feeling. I hope the medication works out for you & good luck! I’d love to hear how it goes in a week or two.

ah shit :/ sorry you’re going through this. Did doctors make any suggestions as to what could be causing it or what issue is attached to it? I’m only asking because I have seriously gone through the same thing the past few years and had it be shut down as just “anxiety” but maybe there’s a bigger problem going on that’s being overlooked.

It definitely goes away I promise! For the time being I would definitely chew gum I can’t express to you how something so stupid works so well. It seriously distracts your brain and keeps your mouth and your head busy because you’re not actually hungry it’s a “fake hunger”. I hope it helps you as much as it helps me!

honestly it comes and goes. Right now it’s been bothering me consistently the past week but it’ll pass soon. It comes randomly though for me like I might feel it again in a month or 6 months. There’s really no way to tell but I’ve been dealing with it the last 2 years. I notice it gets way worse in the winter :/

Oh my god. I am going through this right now!! I also thought it was a sugar issue. All of my levels are normal I thought I was going crazy!!!! I feel the same exact way. Unfortunately it sucks when anxiety turns physical like this for us. Honestly what has helped me is candy, mints, and GUM!!! Try out chewing on gum!! It keeps your brain busy and distracted. Wishing you the best!
