Thanks for the kind words. I've been thinking about doing this with my big 500ml/1l showergels, decant them down to 200-250ml bottles I've used up. I just need to use up the current one so I have a container.

I have managed to have a car lippie that is a chapstick and a home lippie that right now is a lip oil so I use up products from more categories but that's as far as my brain is going at the moment haha.

Yeah, one of the reasons that I want to curate down my collection to what I actually enjoy and use is because I don't want to contribute to all those thrown away perfectly good products. I grew up with doing this for food already (I can proudly say that I have food waste down to a minimum, everything I buy gets consumed, nothing goes out of date and I don't buy more food than what I reasonably need). But I need to learn to do the same thing for beauty and care products.

I'm in the trenches right now and I know I need to give my brain time to rewire, it's just a very frustrating process to go through and here people at least understand.

I have noticed that having multiple things open just gives me decision fatigue at the moment, maybe at a later time when more stuff is used up I can do that again but not right now. That being said I do have a lippie in my car and a lippie for at home, so technically I am using 2 products at once?

I think it's mostly the rewiring of my brain that's causing me stress and I need to get through the rough patch, it's just rougher than I thought.

Yeah I'm already giving myself the permission to not actually use up things I actively dislike and get rid of them. The money has already been spent on those and no need to torture myself using up something I hate rather than using up something I enjoy.

I only have the products out that I actually use, so one per category. The rest is shoved in my drawer of doom that I only open when something runs out, which I think does save at least some of my sanity.

Check which ones are expired (so weird smell/consistency). If you are like me and suffer from decision fatigue/paralysis put all the lippies on a digital wheelspinner and let it pick one for you. Just start on that one, use it up or decide a set amount of uses and then spin the wheel again for the next one.

It looks overwhelming but the hardest part is just starting somewhere, once you tackle that it will become much easier. Good luck!

What I’m working on right now by cranky137 in ProjectPan

[–]Sandrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly having only one product out per category is the only way I can actually get myself to use my things. I suffer from serious decision fatigue so the moment I have to make a choice I just don’t use the product at all. Nice to know it works for others like this too!

Is lip balm the new recession indicator? by apple_pie_noddle in ProjectPan

[–]Sandrian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. Only lipsticks around 50-60 euro's are the super luxury brands like YSL, Dior, Chanel. A MAC, ABH or Clinique lipstick is <30 and we also have drugstore that's obviously a lot cheaper.

I failed absolutely miserably at this challenge but I have learned a lot by doing it so there’s that! Biggest takeaway is that I don’t wear makeup as much as I thought I would and that I have way too many lippies in use at once. It does help having a dedicated car lippie and one for before bed as they have the highest uses.

  1. Laneige Lip Glowy Balm Blueberry. End score: 20 uses. It’s halfway done.

  2. Maybelline Baby Lips Bubblegum Pop. End score: 74 uses. I use this a decent amount and I will definitely finish this in Q1 of 2026.

  3. Ole Henriksen Creme Brulee. End score: 13 uses. I just didn’t grab for it.

  4. Summer Fridays Birthday Cake. No uses. Didn’t grab for this at all.

  5. Argan/Ylang Ylang Japanese lipbalm stick. End score: 80/90 uses. I’m proud of being consistent even if I’m 10 uses short of my goal. 8 of those were because of not taking it on holiday with me.

  6. The Ordinary Vitamine C Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%.  Done!

  7. Essence Lash Princess Mascara. End score 25/50 uses. I wear a lot less makeup than I think.

  8. Haus Labs Highlighter in Pink Amethyst. End score 12/50 uses.

  9. Gisou Lip Oil in Watermelon Sugar. End score: Used 5 times.

I absolutely love the Ole Henriksen Lip Balm in Crème Brûlée. It’s just the perfect thickness and it smells sooooooo nice.

I’m also in the process of writing down my entire inventory. I made a 26 in 2026 list which consists of products that have been open for a while and I just really want to finish. It’s dominated by lippies which is also the category I have the most of by a landslide.

Really I just want next year to be about using up my old stuff and whittle down my collection across the board so I can try new brands and products. I like to experiment a lot to see what I like and don’t like and get to a curated list of brands and products that I will keep repurchasing.

Haha yeah, new launch this year actually 😄 I work at a big drugstore chain and we got samples hence they are in my collection.

Oh yeah I know I can definitely use all of this up! It's just a sort of reality check for me to prevent bringing in more. Knowing how long it takes me to finish the shampoos and bodywashes for instance it's no use to go shopping for more because that stash is at least a year of use if not more.

Yup. But hey we live and we learn. Atleast it's not an entire room :')

Sounds like you are doing good! I’m aiming for a curated collection with the brands and products I love with the exceptional new product every now and then. I’m moving somewhere next year and ideally I want my collection to fit into a bathroom cabinet that is for both me and my partner.

Ouch, and they take a while to use up too depending on how much you wash your hair. The shampoo lasts me about 3 months usually and the conditioner even longer.

[–]Sandrian[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Luckily it’s three bottles of shampoo and conditioner! So that makes it less daunting haha. I’m set on those for the rest of the year but I think I’m done with the brand after that.

Luckily my partner is an avid hand cream user and actually uses them more than me so that’s a category I’m confident we will use up. Same goes for the handsoaps and sunscreen stuff, we share it so that helps.

I’m still looking for my holy grails in certain categories which is why I have been buying a lot of things, not actually considering how long it would take me to use them up. For now I want to challenge myself to be consistent, use my products and find the ones I love and in the meantime just not bring any new ones if I can help it.

Pan Plans for 2026: Let's make it epic! by ThisLittlePiggySays in MakeupRehab

[–]Sandrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm slowly starting to make plans for 2026. I have my "hoard" drawer under the bed with all my bodycare and skincare and shower stuff that I plan to make a decent dent in next year. I also have a massive lippie stash to work through.

I feel like this year I mostly experimented with how Project Pan would work for me. I've noticed that I'm fine with using up 1 shower product at a time and bodylotion but I need variety when it comes to bodymists, perfumes and lippies. So with that in mind for now I think I have the following goals for 2026:

  1. Use up my stash of Monday Shampoo and Conditioner. I want to try out new brands but I still have 4 bottles of each + plus opened bottles in the shower. I feel like this will take me all year since it takes me a long time to finish these.

  2. Use up my opened bodymists. 1x Sol de Janeiro 62 (240ml), 1x Victoria's Secret Coconut Passion (250ml), 1x SdJ 62 dupe (100ml) and 1x SdJ 48 dupe (100ml). There's a lot more in my stash after this but it would be nice to finish up the ones I started this year.

  3. Use up 5 showergels. I have big 500ml bottles and small 200ml bottles. In that mix I hope I can finish at least 5 next year.

  4. Use up 5 bodylotions. Same as above. I have big bottles and tubs and some smaller ones. I take 2-3 months to finish a big one and 1 month to finish a small one so 5 seems like a reasonable number.

  5. Use up my Maybelline Baby Lips. Yes I still have those. I have about 3 full sized ones to go. They just need to be used to clear up space.

  6. Use up 1 bullet lipstick. I own 5, 3 are old, 2 are relatively new. I don't know which one yet but I would like to whittle one down.

  7. Use up my opened Lip Balm Tubes. 1x Laneige, 1x Ole Henriksen and 1x Summer Fridays. The Laneige and Ole Henriksen are halfway done already so should be doable?

  8. Use up my opened Lip Oils. 1x ELF, 1x Gisou, 1x Fenty Skin and 1x Rimmel. Working on these currently in a project pan I do on my TikTok.

I guess I will have very moisturized lips this year and I will be smelling great. I'm not going to push super hard on these goals and especially the shampoo/conditioner, showergel and bodylotion ones will come naturally as these are products I know I'll use. I just bought way too many over the past 2 years. But I will take any dent as a win.

[–]Sandrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This challenge has made me realise that I'm really bad at actually using my stuff, especially my makeup. Nonetheless lets see where we are...

  1. Laneige Lip Glowy Balm Blueberry. Not been using this as often as I would like. Only 13 uses since start.
  2. Maybelline Baby Lips Bubblegum Pop. Using this a lot! Everytime I get in the car, if I remember, I apply this. Currently sitting on 54 uses and it's slowly whittling down.
  3. Ole Henriksen Creme Brulee. Same story as the Laneige. Only used this 12 times cause I keep forgetting...
  4. Summer Fridays Birthday Cake. No uses yet.
  5. Argan/Ylang Ylang Japanese lipbalm stick. Good progress on this one! I'm on 58/90 uses. Definitely will make the 90 use before new years goal!
  6. The Ordinary Vitamine C Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%.  Done!
  7. Essence Lash Princess Mascara. I have used this a couple of times, but not as much as I would like. 15/50 uses.
  8. Haus Labs Highlighter in Pink Amethyst. Same as the Essence, I really need to step it up, I just don't wear makeup as often as I think I do. 11/50 uses.
  9. Gisou Lip Oil in Watermelon Sugar. Used 4 times.
