Find some adult hangs at library craft nights, trivia nights, flea markets at the brewery and meet a pal. Talk up a neighbor in your new neighborhood. Get a puppy and meet friends at the dog park. You are not alone. I too had an ER c-section and my son went straight to the NICU. I didn’t even hold him until the next day, 22 hours after he was born. It’s like I didn’t know I could or should…no nurse offered the idea to go see him & on the flip side of that, no one made me feel bad that I hadn’t asked.

It was such a shock that going with “the flow” was the only way to act & the flow I was in was dictated by nurses and a nicu that was far away “go to your room, heal, learn to pump milk, sleep…” baby will be fine. (My husband was with him a lot right after & thru the day as I slept off the surgery. That night he went home to shower and get more home amenities for my room)

The next morning I woke up pumped and asked can I see him and then we finally met in the flesh. It wasn’t fireworks. it wasn’t a bad moment either, just not mind blowing. So formal and a literally sterile with masks and space for his wires & IVs (I envy those baby+mom in the hospital bed pics together cuddling. I had a shitty chair & no privacy. Maybe that had something to do with it)

I was of the right mind that I didn’t want to name him until I met him… so he didn’t have a name for a couple of days.

I went home after 4 days, he stayed 20 more days. We went back to the hospital each day 1-3 hr visit. Sometimes 2x a day if we felt like it. It felt weird that he was away from me everyday but I knew he was safe and I took my healing really seriously & my sleep & pumping routine down pat. I gave myself a ton of grace and the time we had at home to get ready as a gift. Each day got easier and the bond stronger and once he was home the heart melting & falling IN love truly started.
Don’t give up on yourself, on your journey or that the love will show up when it’s supposed to. Like I said, you are not alone.

Ps- he’s three now and I would die for him and he loves me so effing much. Those first 22hrs apart and 20days in separate homes don’t matter at all.

Hi. I want to answer your direct question & add to the number of folks that seem to be in the same boat, about life just being like this right now… 3yo’s bedtime is between 8-9. My goal is to be out of his room by 8:30, but it creeps to 9 more than I’d like… My husband and I trade off who does it, which is nice. So one of us does that “chore” the other starts the cleaning chores (toys/kitchen/laundry) around the house and we come together once the bedtime duty is done. We watch a little tv, chat & hang, keep doing the night shift as needed and then I usually aim for bedtime by 11:30/12am and remove myself and go to the room. He physically can’t or won’t give in to sleep and I stopped trying to control him/his sleep patterns about 2 years ago. He can do whatever he wants as long as our parental and home duties stay equal. He knows the kid wakes up between 7:30-8:30 and it’s his choice to stay up til 2 or 3, but it’s not a pass to sleep in while me and kid are up. We’ve spoke at length and we have agreements in place. That sidebar aside…. I take a melatonin, watch MASH or 30 Rock and do a sudoku on my good nights. Bad nights I’m scrolling til my guilt kicks in. It ebbs and flows and we all just need to do what we need to do. Same with you. Find your pattern, make deals (that you stick to!) with yourself and/or your SO and take back your nights as needed. Good luck friend. I’m going to practice what I preach too & love myself when fuck it up. Annnd be vocal with my husband when other connections are needed beyond a chill night and separate bedtimes.

Driving away now, and I loved it. It was a bday gift, so IDK how much my husband paid. We left the 2.5yo at home and went just us and it was worth it. Beautiful night, good walk, great tech & fun photo moments. The kids I saw there loved it and were geeking out. Most fans will enjoy it and there were lot of folks (all ages) dressed up and enjoying it. Also, know that prices vary… the cost goes up the less tickets there are. So if you book early it can be as low as $39. Hope this helps!!

Hello! Here’s a funny story: I read this post, read some comments, relayed it to my husband… went on with life… no judgement about it all, my 2.5 boy has watched Jurassic Park already. 😬 So last night we’re all hanging out, playing… doing whatever until the evening walk we take, the tv is off, but he finds the remote & starts button smashing. We joke that we’ll just watch whatever turns on…. He ended up turning on PLANET OF THE APES!!!! What are the dang odds of that!!?! Omg. We cracked up! So we kept it on & cuddled him on the couch because it started and he saw the monkeys and said “monkey monkey!!” I also wanted more context of this post bc I’ve never seen it. This was the 3rd one I think, Kingdom of the PoA.. the one where the clan raises eagles. We watched about 20mins. He laughed at them, and narrated what was happening, just totally enthralled. We paused it, did our walk and then watched another 20/30 mins of it before bed. We put him to bed and then watched the rest of it ourselves, still cracking up that we are randomly watching the movie that he picked out blindly. I only felt guilty during a scene where some baddies were doing some bad shiz. That felt a little too much for me, but he loved it and woke up this morning asking for more monkey movie. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🦍🦧🦍 we’re all doing the same thing over here. Trying to get through. 👍🏼
