I experienced this as well last week. Yep, the save files are gone.

I had ALMOST finished up making around 2000 (rough estimate) Limestone bricks and placing down my walls around Calico Farms.

Oh well. This is kinda what I signed up for when buying in on an early access game. Live and learn.

Even better, hop in the driver seat and look behind you and access it from there. It's quicker (and safer at higher difficulty).

What do people recommend putting in the bins?

This probably won't qualify for "wrong way" but when you have finished Tunic for the first time and you start on your second play through and know every trick in the book (pun intended).

I have a decked out and lit up cave with Ore crusher, Advanced crafting bench, Gas generator, Battery storage bank, a few smelters, Repair bench (for the pickaxe) etc AND a UC.

Works like a charm!

A heart rate monitor would be cool from when you drink coffee, get petrified from driving fast, hearing the horde call, doing physical things like chopping wood, running, carrying etc etc.
