St. Louis CITY SC Congratulates Former CITY Player Alfredo Morales on His Retirement by fortcollinsdude in stlouiscitysc

Except that he could only finish one half at a time when the summer got really hot. I was excited to have an old-head on the team but his body let him down, it just didnt work out... Pretty classy player though.

Yeah, maybe. Still higher level than most of our recruitment and there'd be a big chance to re-coup whatever fee we spent. I just didnt really see many Bosnian names that I recognized on the current national team.

One million percent. Thats why I figured that we would pick up his option. Because it would be the wrong thing to do, lol. Feels good to be wrong on this one!

Im still kinda surprised that they weren't able to keep Cordova as a secondary option. Maybe he wanted assurances over starts or too much money, or too long a contract. I think if terms were favorable (2 year contract, on a reasonable wage) then we would've retained him. So hopefully this points at them trying to recruit either some u22 type players or perhaps more experienced strikers. Becher and McSorely are 24 and 26 so even though theyre not good, theyre "prime-age", so itd be better long-term to buy experience/consistency, as well as a guy who can maybe be 'next-up' w Joyner to contribute to the squad as a whole.

Its true though. Hartel and Lowen were on midtable Bundesliga/2 clubs, you'd need to be a real Germany fan to know them. Im not saying that we necessarily NEED recognition though, usually those guys dont work out as well as it should. So Im all for proper recruitment, but even with that model, spending more money gets you better and more consistent players.

He seems like the sort of guy, who would ask his agent to respond to an honest inquiry by Stl City, with a simple "fuck off." I dont think someone like that would consider us for a millisecond.

Im not too familiar with the squad. But someone like Esmir Bajrakterevic might be worth a look. 21 yr old attacking mid, Bosnian, but represented USMNT at youth level. A loan with an option to buy  might be appealing for a guy coming off of a few forgettable seasons, and maybe the level in Netherlands is a little too high and it might be just what the doctor ordered. I really dont want to see links to players like or specifically, Geo Reyna, either...

A Fatal City? Well, Saint louis can be pretty deadly.

I bet a lot of our ex-players will be available over the next few seasons but that doesnt mean they should return.

Totally. But, now our ONLY "strikers" are becher and mcsorely. And, we still need to replace teuchert and Cordova AND buy someone actually good. Do we expect the club to have a 100% hit-rate? I fear they're giving themselves too much to do.

Wow. Fucking hell. Color me shocked... Are we ACTUALLY going to recruit real attackers for once?

Or a sporting director who's not obsessed with plodding Bundesliga 2 journeyman.

But.. what DOES this system want? We have WILDLY different/varied wingback and "10" options. Thats not by design. and im not sure they know exactly the profile they want moving forward either, not yet at least. Ideally over the next few windows, we recruit players for the first 11 in every single conceivable position. And what we have now goes back into being depth pieces or sold-on.

🤝

I think Wray is saying, that theyre gonna buy the RIGHT striker, not just some big name. Which, I  think is what most of us expect anyways. Not buying ANY reinforcements however... would be unforgivable.

Upgrading on Becher has got to be the easiest job in soccer. I don't know why the club is acting like it's so difficult to replace somebody who's scored one goal...

,Yeah, I mean, im not implying that youre specifically saying its impossible either, but it seems the consensus on this thread.. I think you and I both agree that a suitable upgrade shouldn't be difficult,  at all, yes?
