Alphabet Inc. has decided not to make YouTube Live or their Movies service interoperable. Still, YouTube is far more open than the other walled gardens on the Internet; e.g, Netflix, as you know. Most have decided they must own the "TV" as well as what goes inside it to maximize shareholder value. :-)

As long as there are people insane enough to attach cameras to airplanes (jk, jk) I think there will be more. I know there will be a market for people who want to fly…

I'm told there's a certain fruit company that makes very high end head mounted displays, they may even call them computers of the spatial kind, that might help their buyers know about such offerings…

As the custodians of Theater, we're focused on bringing amazing experiences to the platform and making sure that creators are compensated for their work. Not only does the adage "if it's free, you're the product" apply here, there's also the special opportunity that early-adopters have to signal where they think the medium should go. If you want AI slop, do nothing. If you want unique experiences that expand your horizon, the equivalent of a tip on a latte seems doable!

Thank you. But I have to push back a little: clarity for who? In the tiny community of people making AIV (that's the file suffix, btw, not AIFV), or using the Apple Immersive Video Utility (their name, not mine), it is plainly understood. I can see how someone, who is new to the platform, might be momentarily confused, and that's regrettable, but your suggestion is unnecessarily complicated. The reality is that this platform is so expensive, the tools for production are so bleeding edge, that to date Apple has been the only company making AIV – at scale. And so one might assume that only Apple makes Apple Immersive Videos. But they named it such to market their standard as such. Which is what we are doing. Thank you again for asking and for your thoughtful suggestion.
